Domain Purchases!
-
I am a website developer and designer and I know all about the basics with regards to seo, webmaster tools, content and meta tags!
I am currently re-building my main site from the ground up and is nearly finished! Within my site I have a section with 5 pages that's designed for potential clients who are thinking about hiring a developer like me to build them a website. This section I have named _'So you want a website!'._It's designed to make people think about what, why and what they want their website to achieve as well as how much it costs to have it built.
My question is this.... I have just purchased the domain soyouwanta.website with the intention for it to basically redirect to the named section above! I hear it's good to have similar named domains to redirect to main sites and is good for seo! How do the search engines treat new domains to redirect to main domains and how do I add this to webmaster tools?
Looking forward to your answers.

I too agree with them both EGOL, and again thank you for taking the time to respond to my question! as I have said above I will be putting a website on that domain and link back to my main one from it! Can always use it as a vanity url in the future!
Thanks again and have a great day buddy!

Thank you Andy to taking the time to respond buddy!
Have decided not to use it as a vanity url and actually put a website on it first! Have a good day!

Hi Dirk,
That's what I thought anyway! I suppose I could always do something with that domain and put the mini website I talked about on it as a separate entity and build it's reputation over the coming years and months hey!
That would probably be my best bet over using it as a vanity url, I could always change it back once I have built it up with links and a reputation after a year or so!
Thank you for responding back to me buddy! All the best

A lot of people who write about this type of information are poorly informed. In my opinion, you are listening to the wrong person.
I agree with the opinions given by Dirk and Andy.
I normally don't chime in like this when great advice is offered, but in this case, I think that it is an important thing to do because the advice here is so different from what you read elsewhere.

I echo Dirks comments that there is no value in doing this and I pretty sure there never has been this benefit. A URL redirected to another carries no weight with Google.
As a vanity URL, no issues with doing that at all. I do see this fairly often where a targeted URL like this on a business card, then forwards to the main website itself. It's a nice way for people to remember you.

You can use the domain as a vanity url - but in terms of SEO it has no real value as it's redirected to your main domain (especially if it's brand new & has no existing links and reputation).
Redirected url's are normally not indexed - Google is indexing the url behing the 301. In webmastertools you don't have to do anything special. You could indicate a change address (settings GSC) on the soyouwanta.website domain - but as the new domain is not indexed and doesn't have content I don't think it's useful to do so.

Website with higher domain authority and good content not ranking locally?
I've got a client that has a higher domain authority than top ranking sites, is pretty well optimized from a content perspective, has good local reviews but still isn't ranking well at all... often not at all in local results. We don't show in map pack or even regular organic listings in a pretty small city. They are a local sign shop- so they make business signs/church signs etc. Have you seen anything negatively impacting local rankings that is worth digging into as possible cause? A few historical insights: They had some spammy backlinks (we think a competitor was being shady) that I've sent disavow files into Google for They had a previous SEO person create 100's of orphan pages for every possible city + offering combination you can think of- I've cleaned those up via 301 redirects Should I just keep waiting, doing content optimization or am I missing something else?

Creating a Wordpress Multi-site - Should I have separate Domains or use Subdirectories?
Hello, I have a company building out a website and wanted to get the community opinion on how we should set-up the domain network (separate domains or subdirectories). Our company has several locations across the country and really act as their own entity in those locations (Austin, Norman, College Station, etc.). Currently, we have all the locations under 1 domain like so... maindomain.com/our-locations/norman. This clearly isn't they way it should be set-up and it was done a long time ago, so we are changing to either: Separate Domains already purchased Subdirectories such as maindomain.com/norman I would like to know what would be the best strategy for our communities in regards to SEO? Thanks!

Can we place a FB business page link instead of direct domain link in a Google My Business listing?
A client of ours asked if we could place link to their local Facebook page instead of a link to the direct domain in their Google My Business listing. Will Google allow this?

Do Citation Count As Backlinks / Referring Domains
I listed clients listed on about 200+ local citation sites and was NAP complaint. However, when I run a backlink checker using MOZ, SEMRUSH, etc it only show 8 -12 and none of them are the citations. Anyone have any pointers?

Why would a domain rank well in some markets and poorly in others?
We are having an issue with our SERP results. Basically here is what’s happening. We offer training in 47 cities. Our main sales page is [http://example.com/product/city-name]. Whenever we change our location preferences in Google, and that URL format is the landing page for our main 3 keywords, we rank no worse than 15. Most of those are on the first page. However, if that is not the landing page in the SERPs, we rank poorly. Depending on which keyword is used, one of three URLs will ALWAYS appear instead of the desired city-specific landing page, and we rank somewhere between pages 6 and 9. The other landing pages, depending on which keyword is used, are http://example.com (home page), http://example.com/product (without the city), or http://example.com/product/san-francisco (regardless of how close this is). Out of the 141 keywords, there have been between 9-25 keywords that have this issue. Having all 3 of these keywords in the top 10 for each city is the number one priority from our CEO. We have noticed if a page starts moving down the ranks, once it goes past 15, the landing page changes. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this, or how to fix it? Any insight into this is much appreciated!

A friend has a question about buying and using a domain
My friend is starting a yoga site and needed advice about how to use the domains. BikramYogaSantaClarita.com and BikramSCV.com are the 2 domains. The DBA is Bikram Yoga Santa Clarita. This was her message to me: The person I spoke with at GoDaddy suggested using the DBA name as the website and on advertising and the shorter one for email addresses, as it’s easier to say and write down, and also have the shorter one point to the longer DBA one. What do you think? What are your thoughts?

How does one increase a site's Domain Authority?
We see that our Domain Authority is hovering around the same mark for over a year now. I have 2 questions - How important is DA? Does it affect your Google Page Rank? What would ideally be the things that we need to keep in mind if we are to increase our Domain Authority? Thanks
