Newbie Q: How soon should i see backlink from guest post
-
I recently got featured in couple of blog posts and there were back-links to my site. How soon should i expect to see these in Moz Open Explorer and also in Google Search Console?
If i don't see these links, is there something I need to do?
Thanks

Sure, no problem

Thanks man.

Well, if you can improve the quality of backlink somehow - move it to higher DA domain or higher PA page, then sure - go ahead. Just make sure that your efforts would be worth it, cause if you gonna spend 4 hours on it to increase DA by 1, there is no point in it. It'd better to get another link.

Thanks Dmitrii. This answers.
So my other part of the question- if I don't see the back link say in 1-2 cycles. Is there something I can or should do? Like talk to blogger who featured my site and ask to change things?

Hi there.
You should see link in Open Site Explorer after next recrawl, which is scheduled on Feb 28 - https://moz.com/products/api/updates
If your blog posts were created very recently or on small DA websites, then it might take till next recrawl.
As for Google Search Console - it's usually detected pretty quick. Maybe couple weeks. But, sometimes for unknown reasons it can take way longer than that - up to several months, but it's unlikely.
Hope this helps.

First Post! Local Electrician Site.
I have a site for a local electrician that I just can't seem to get to move up the SERPS. I've tried everything form on-page optimization to local link building but It seems to always hover around position 11-17 for my keyword 'electricians grimsby' - which is not very competitive. Any advice would be invaluable.

Is guest posting still a good idea?
Lately the changes in Google all revolve around reducing the power of "self made links". We've seen blog networks devalued and low quality directories devalued. We've also seen people penalized for unnatural patterns of anchor text. With all of this in mind, I'm wondering how much time I should be putting in to guest posting. It seems to me like the safest focus should be on creating great content and then promoting that content. But it's so much easier to spend a few minutes writing an article for someone else and getting an anchor texted link back to mine. To most, guest posting is still considered white hat. But really, when you look at it, you are providing a webmaster content in return for a link back to your site. But it is definitely not a natural vote for your website. It is really just a self made link. If I were Google, I think it would be quite easy to find ways to determine what is a guest post that was created simply to get a link back to a site. And then I would devalue the links from those posts. What do you think? Do you still do much guest posting?

Why is a website with no backlinks beating me?
In Sydney we have an import car dealership and even though it does not show any backlinks to it: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.edwardlees.com.au%2F (make sure to search on Google.com.au for any relevant keywords I mention) However this website is ranking at the top for many competitive keywords, for example: 'japanese imports' It is dominating. Our website has many backlinks: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.sportsautogroup.com.au But no keyword rankings. I understand we need to fix up our on Page SEO, but how does our EdwardLee's rank top with no backlinks?? Or is the tool just missing data?
