Will my SEO Affect If I Redirect existing user from homepage to dashboard?
-
Hi Guys,
My client (SaaS company) wants to redirect all the visitors to the dashboard if they have already created an account with them. The redirection would be done at the server level using a cookie.
Does the redirection (though done only if user is already registered) affect SEO rankings? They want to be double sure.
Thanks.

Hi Daniel,
Thanks a lot for your response.

Hey there,
As long as the redirect is implemented properly and only affects registered users, it should not have an effect on your SEO. Just make sure you test it after rolling it out.
However, one consideration would be that existing customers will not be able to see the regular homepage, which means:
- it'll be harder for them to link to the homepage if they can't figure out what's going on
- there might be information on the homepage that they want to access but can't
Therefore, I'd recommend having a way for registered users that were redirected to the dashboard to have an intuitive way of visiting the homepage without being redirected.

Hi Matt,
It would be entirely based on the cookie.
Thanks

Out of curiosity, would users need to be logged in to be redirected? Or would it be entirely based on the cookie?

User Reviews Question
On my e-commerce site, I have user reviews that cycle in the header section of my category pages. They appear/cycle via a snippet of code that the review program provided me with. My question is...b/c the actual user-generated content is not in the page content does the google-bot not see this content? Does it not treat the page as having fresh content even though the reviews are new? Does the bot only see the code that provides the reviews? Thanks in advance. Hopefully this question is clear enough.

Redirects
I have a question about 404ed domains and old domains. #1 A domain has many links to it, but has been 404ed for 4 months. Should I redirect to a page I own and is almost exactly the same content. Will the fact that it was once 404ed be an issue? #2 I have an old domain that has many links but has been stagnant for a long time. Are these links still valuable and I should I redirect them to an important page on a different site? Does penguin influence your advice?

Can I redirect a URL that has a # in it? How?
Hi there - My web developer is saying that I can't do a URL redirect with a "#" in it. Currently, the URL is actually an anchored link within a page (which the URL indicates with a #). I want to change the content to a new URL, but our website links internally to the old URL, so we would need to do a URL redirect (assume 301). Can you tell me if this is possible and how? Thanks!
