Https Verus http
-
We recently changed our eCommerce site to a https from a http and we have seen a slight drop in rankings.
Should we have not changed the who site over or was it the right call?
Thanks,
-
We only did it a month or so ago.
I have contacted all the bloggers and asked them to change their link to the site.
Thanks for your help, I thought this was the case.

How long ago did you make the change?
People who have done similar have also reported a drop in rankings after switching, this will mainly be down to the backlink profile.
You would have (hopefully) had quite a good backlink profile with links going to your old http domain, so when you switch to your https domain it will have less links, even though you probably have a redirect in place from the http version it will not cary across 100% of the link juice.
Its important to try and change any backlinks that you have control over to point to your https version to make the most of them
Hope that makes sense

HTTPS - implementation question
Hello, I am looking at a site on which they haven't 301'd http to https, so each URL is there whether you have http or https at the beginning. Why would a site owner not 301 to https? Is there any logical reason not to use 301? This particular website is simply using a canonical tag to point to the https version of each URL.

How long after https migration that google shows in search console new sitemap being indexed?
We migrated 4 days ago to https and followed best practices..
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | lcourse
In search console now still 80% of our sitemaps appear as "pending" and among those sitemaps that were processed only less than 1% of submitted pages appear as indexed? Is this normal ?
How long does it take for google to index pages from sitemap?Â
Before https migration nearly all our pages were indexed and I see in the crawler stats that google has crawled a number of pages each day after migration that corresponds to number of submitted pages in sitemap. Sitemap and crawler stats show no errors.0 -
Moving to https with a bunch of redirects my programmer can't handle
Hi Mozzers, I referred a client of mine (last time) to a programmer that can transition their site from http to https. Â They use a wordpress website and currently use EPS Redirects as a plugin that 301 redirects about 400 pages. Â Currently, the way EPS redirects is setup (as shown in the attachment) is simple: On the left side you enter your old url, and on the the right side is the newly 301'd url. Â But here's the issue, since my client made the transition to https, the whole wordpress backend is setup that way as well. Â What this means is, if my client finds another old http url that he wants to redirect, this plugin only allows them to redirect https to https. As of now, all old http to https redirects STILL work even though the left side of the plugin switched all url's to a default HTTPS. Â But my client is worried the next plugin update he will lose all http to https redirects. Â While asking our programmer to add all 400 redirects to .htaccess, he states that's too many redirects and could slow down the website. Â Well, we don't want to lose all 400 301's and jeopardize our SEO. Question: what does everyone suggest as an alternative solution/plugin to redirect old http urls to https and future https to https urls? Thank you all! Ol8km

Website losing rank positions after https
Hi there.. we were having a good increase in rankings since using Moz and then we purchased an ssl certificate so our website would run under https... to make sure our website is only accessed through https, we have used a method on .htaccess (appache) to make sure the website is only reached through https, using: RewriteEngine on

Google Indexed the HTTPS version of an e-commerce site
Hi, I am working with a new e-commerce site. Â The way they are setup is that once you add an item to the cart, you'll be put onto secure HTTPS versions of the page as you continue to browse. Well, somehow this translated to Google indexing the whole site as HTTPS, even the home page. Â Couple questions: 1. Â I assume that is bad or could hurt rankings, or at a minimum is not the best practice for SEO, right? 2. Â Assuming it is something we don't want, how would we go about getting the http versions of pages indexed instead of https? Â Do we need rel-canonical on each page to be to the http version? Â Anything else that would help? Thanks!

Blocking HTTP 1.0?
One of my clients believes someone is trying to hack their site. Â We are seeing the requests with a server protocol or HTTP 1.0 so they want to block 1.0 entirely. Will this cause any problems with search engines or regular, non-spamming visitors?

HTTP Errors in Webmaster Tools
We recently added a 301 redirect from our non-www domain to the www version. As a result, we now have tons of HTTP errors (403s to be exact) in Webmaster Tools. They're all from over a month ago, but they still show up. How can we fix this?
