Please advise on GMB and citation building - 1 owner, 2 businesses, 1 address + 1 phone no.
-
Our client has an established driveways business, "A", that has been servicing higher end customers. This business has GMB and citations built. He has now started another driveways business, "B" that targets mid-class customers. This second business operates out of the same office with the same phone no. A Google rep has advised that the 2nd business will not be able to have a GMB of its own if it's operating out of the same address as the 1st business.
How would you actually tackle citation building and creating a GMB for this second business?? Would appreciate any advice!!

Hi Gavo,
The Google Rep is right - what you're describing about the second business has all the earmarks of a listing that would get flagged and removed by Google, and this could actually hurt the work you've done for the first business. What are those earmarks?
-
Shared category of products/services
-
Shared address
-Shared phone number
If your client's second business was selling vacuum cleaners instead of driveway services and had its own phone number, it would be okay to move forward, but from your scenario description, attempting to use Google to market the second business would be a mistake.
Now, not every directory shares Google's stringent policies, BUT if you do decide to build citations other than at Google for the second business, you should take these precautions:
-
Separate phone number
-
Separate website with totally unique content
-
Don't link between the two businesses to try to cross promote them
Even with these precautions, there is risk of troubling citation inconsistencies arising from the fact that two driveway businesses are sharing the same address. You could wind up with merged listing details out there in the ecosystem, so if you choose to go this route, forewarn the client of the risks before taking any steps in this direction.
So sorry ... this is probably not the news your client is hoping to hear, but honestly, if you prevent him from making a costly mistake, you could be saving his bacon

I ran into this issue once late in 2015. It was a law firm that did business as 2 different names to reach 2 very different target markets. Google would not verify the one business because it was in the same building as the other and used the same phone number. The other business had 2 locations.
I was given the workaround to set up as a local service that traveled to customers. Obviously this did not work for a law firm, but as a driveway installer this certainly does for your business. Set up the mid level business as a service that travels, you will not need to give an exact address but a central point and dictate a radius such as 30 miles from your current location. I have been able to get plumbers and contractors verified who have a po box for an address this way. They use their home location as the center point and give me a radius for service, usually 30 miles or so.

If I have 2 brick and mortar stores in the same city, do I need to pay BOTW twice?
I am building citations for 2 brick and mortar stores for the same company that are in the same city. Since they are in the same city, I have not create individual landing pages. Just one locations page with both store addresses. We already purchased BOTW for the first location.

Local Link Building Question: High DA Chambers vs Low PA Trade Groups
Hi all, We've been researching relevant, real organizations in our area that allow members to link their websites from the directory. I've basically got two buckets of prospects: Chambers of commerce type sites with more authority (DA ~40+) but less relevance to our niche (injury law) Bar associations with less authority (DA ~20) but super relevant. Assuming that they cost the same and covered the same geographic area, which links would you go after if you had to choose one or the other? Thanks in advance.

Local Citation with multiple offices
We have 5 different offices and each has its own google+ page and yell page. At first they were ranking poorly and the wrong offices were coming up for searches in that town so we change the name to :
Local Listings | | EJmoz
BusinessName (Location1)
BusinessName (Location2) Etc. those listing all starting to rank top for searches in Location1 and Location2. We have now been told that it is bad for our overall SEO to have the business name appearing differently in different listings and this led me to look at Moz Local. My question is should I remove the (Location1) from the Google+ business listing so that all our offices have the same name (but obviously different addresses) even though it appears to have a negative impact on rankings? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks0 -

Two businesses - using separate suite numbers
I have a client that has an office in a particular suite (Suite 101) at a local address. They rent the space so they cannot just add another suite number. They are going to have two websites for two different businesses run from the same location. They will have separate local phone numbers for each business. Is it too much of a stretch for them to show one as "Suite 101-A" and the other as "Suite 101-B" for their local pages? One of the businesses is very new with few citations at this point. The other has not started up yet, so we have better control of the citations that will be created. I've seen similar questions posted, but not one that addresses this specific issue. Thanks for any advice!

Local seo citation tools
Hi I have been manually adding my details to local/national directories in order to help my ranking in my google places placing. It is a bit of a grind, and I am aware there are tools out there. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with any of them? I am UK based. Also I was ranking for "Liverpool Photographer" on google places for a couple of months and it brought in quite a bit of work, although I have since slipped back to about 15th, so out of the visible results. I am mainly a wedding photographer so my home page was optimised mainly for "liverpool wedding photographer" Although I hired an SEO company who changed the home page title to "liverpool photographer", I cannot remember if I was ranking on places for this keyword because of this change or I was already in the results before the changes were made. So my question is how Can I rank for "liverpool photographer" and "Liverpool wedding photographer" on a places result at the same time? I hope this makes sense. Best wishes. David.

2 phone numbers in our SERP snippet are incorrect. How do I fix it?
At the special rich snippet at the top of the SERP, we have 5 phone numbers, but 2 of them are for something specific and need to be removed. Do you know how to do this? I've looked up the 2 phone numbers and they appear to only be on PDF documents. Any ideas?

Looking to out source some link building...
But I want to be VERY careful. I just want to out source some local listing etc... type of stuff. I am not looking to get thousands of links per client, I am looking for someone to check the local listings create, claim and edit as needed as well as reaching out to relevant local companies for links i.e. - we work with hotels and resorts, some have large meeting facilities so links from wedding photographers, event planners etc... just citing our clients as venues... etc... Again, I am not looking for, nor do I want, and link schemes etc... just some legitimate building. We are just getting too busy (not complaining) Any suggestions?
