Question: About Google's personalization of search results and its impact on monitoring ranking results
-
Given Google's personalization of search results for anyone who's logged into a Google property, how realistic and how actually meaningful/worthwhile is it to monitor one's ranking results for any keyword term these days?
-
Thanks Eric - While we are well-aware of various ranking monitor tools (we currently use MozPro), that's the essence of our question here. And it leads to the bigger question: What is main value of SEO these days given how it's realistically possible that most of your target audience is now getting personalized SERP results anyway. So then why put in all the effort to rank for particular terms when you could be easily displaced by sites your audience has viewed more regularly than your own and hence Google gives them the better position over yours regardless of having better SEO implemented on your site?
-
Generally speaking, with the personalization, it's difficult to monitor rankings. There are tools that will monitor your rankings, and generally they don't log into Google when checking rankings. They do try to set their location, though, so you can make it look like you're in Dallas and searching.
What we recommend is looking at overall organic traffic and conversions--rather than obsessing over keyword rankings. You can, though, look at Search Analytics in Google Search Console to see if there are particular keywords that you are monitoring, and see the impressions, clicks, and average position. One way to look at that data is pull the data by page and look at certain pages on your site and look at its keywords to see if there are any changes you can make to each individual page.

Too many wordpress redirects impact Rankings?
Our website cms is WordPress. We have recently changed the URL pattern of our blog pages which resulted in hundreds of crawl errors in Google search console. Even though we don't have any broken links; old pages have been reported at Google. We are trying to redirect the old URLs to new which will be handled by auto redirects or manual redirects. Will so many redirects impact on website? I don't mean about internal redirects. I mean about redirects made for the cause of reclaiming non existing pages referred from external sites

Page Rank Metrics Disapearing
Hi Everyone. I keep hearing from different people that googles PAGE RANK , Will soon be eliminated. Has anyone heard anything more about this ? Or is this a myth? This would make it more complex for the average person to rely on DA and TF etc.. Would love to hear from you guys. I actually like the PR rating system. Also have websites more then a year old which are still not showing actual PR yet .Maybe delayed or maybe not. Robert

Wrong Google pin locations
Did something happen recently that would affect pin locations on Google Maps? I've been updating Google Places pages, but not touching the address or pins - but I received a phone call from one of my locations that their pin location changed in the past month and now it is wrong. Meanwhile, another department recently had MomentFeed update the pins for accuracy. Thoughts?

Website moving up and down SERPs alongside others in 'blocks'.
I have noticed that since the so-called 'Panda' updates my website has been moving up and down the Google SERPs in a kind of 'block' alongside other unrelated websites for certain keyword phrases. Whenever there is upwards or downwards movement it happens in tandem with the other websites in those blocks and it is very frustrating. Why is this and has anybody experienced anything similar? The website - http://bit.ly/jIFHpm The search engine - Google, US The keyword phrase - First phrase of website meta title Sorry for being so cryptic I just don't like openly giving out certain information - think it's a bad hangover from the Google Webmaster help forums where everything you post is indexed for Joe nobody to read at his leisure. If anybody would like to mention anything else related to any on or off-page factors on the website then your time would be much appreciated. One thing I am a bit concerned about, for example, is the repition of 'monitors' on the 'monitor shop' dropdown on the top navigation menu and also the sidebar. This would put a localised high density of the keyword in these navigation areas and I am slightly concerned about that. I have no malicious intent and it is appropriate for the user but perhaps the manufacturer names alone would suffice? Thanks in advance.
