How to resolve recurring 302 redirects?
-
In my Moz site crawl there is a fluctuating number of 302 redirect pages that don't physically exist - most are through a 'compare product' option. The number of 302s varies significantly by how many pages Rogerbot has crawled - the more pages crawled, the higher the number of 302s, so I'm pretty sure it's the 'compare product' that's causing the issue.
I can't find a way to remove the compare product button so I need another way to resolve it. I can;t canonicalise the pages as they don't exist as such. Does anyone have any ideas?

In that case I wouldn't worry
If you want to crawl a version of your site without those parameters Screaming Frog allows you to exclude any specific parameters by going to configuration > URL rewriting.
Best of luck!

Hi Sergey,
You're spot on with the question and to be honest I feel a bit daft for not thinking of parameters before! (Doh!) But it doesn't seem to be an issue with Google - only other bots like Moz and Screaming Frog seem to pick it up which strikes me as strange.
Thanks for your answer though - very helpful!

Hi there!
Good question. First of all, it sounds like the 302 is necessary for the functionality of the site. If I'm understanding correctly, a user has the option to add an item on your site to a "compare" cart and if a user does that the page reloads (with the item in the "compare" cart) as a 302. Often times this is done with a parameter.
So it looks something like this?
/example-product/ > 302 > /example-product/?compare=list
If this is the case, I would try taking that parameter and letting Google know not to crawl pages that have it in. You can do this in Google Search Console. Here's a great guide from Google on parameters, exclusions, and what we can do with them.
Please let me know if I misunderstood the question. Hope that helps!

A 301 redirect to a page with a rel canonical to a page with a 301 question...
MOZ registers thousands of DC and Duplicate titles on a Drupal site which has a little strange setup. Example: www.1234.com/en-us 301 redirects to www.realsite.com/en-us which has a rel canonical to www.1234.com which 301 redirects to www.realsite.com. If you're still with me I thank you.

My question is since MOZ registers errors, if indeed the rel canonical isn't recognized due to a 301 redirect?0 -

How long will it take for Page Rank (or Page Authority) to flow via a 301 redirect?
I've recently redeveloped a static site using WordPress and have created 301 redirects for the original urls to the new urls. I know I won't get all the value passed via the 301, but I'm hoping some will. Any idea how long this may take? It's been nearly a month since the changeover so wondering if it would be weeks, months or more?

How to resolve Duplicate Content crawl errors for Magento Login Page
I am using the Magento shopping cart, and 99% of my duplicate content errors come from the login page. The URL looks like: http://www.site.com/customer/account/login/referer/aHR0cDovL3d3dy5tbW1zcGVjaW9zYS5jb20vcmV2aWV3L3Byb2R1Y3QvbGlzdC9pZC8xOTYvY2F0ZWdvcnkvNC8jcmV2aWV3LWZvcm0%2C/ Or, the same url but with the long string different from the one above. This link is available at the top of every page in my site, but I have made sure to add "rel=nofollow" as an attribute to the link in every case (it is done easily by modifying the header links template). Is there something else I should be doing? Do I need to try to add canonical to the login page? If so, does anyone know how to do it using XML?

Bad code on Learn Seo Redirection info Page
Is it just me, or is the Redirection resource page missing the exclamation point (!) in this code. If so, this could really mess someone's site up if they copy and paste. http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/redirection http://screencast.com/t/n7lknZ32G9xF Redirecting Canonical Hostnames: The original developers at SEOmoz needed to redirect any requests that do not start with www.seomoz.org to make sure they included the www. They did this not only because it looks better, but to avoid common canonicalization errors. Redirect: http://seomoz.org/To: http://www.seomoz.org/ Redirect: http://mail.seomoz.org/To: http://www.seomoz.org Redirect: http://seomoz.org/somefile.phpTo: http://www.seomoz.org/somefile.php Solution: Add the following directive: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^seomoz.org [NC]RewriteRule (.*) http://www.seomoz.org/$1 [L,R=301] Explanation: This directive tells apache to examine the host the visitor is accessing (in this case: seomoz.org), and if it does not equal www.seomoz.org redirect to www.seomoz.org. The exclamation point (!) in front of www.seomoz.org negates the comparison, saying “if the host IS NOT www.seomoz.org, then perform RewriteRule.” In our case RewriteRule redirects them to www.seomoz.org while preserving the exact file they were accessing in a back-reference. *emphasis added by me

How long after 301 redirect does seomoz toolbar take to update?
I 301 redirected a page to a new URL that is better optimized for my content. However as soon as I did this upon visiting the page, my browser's seomoz toolbar "page authority measurement had fallen to "1" it was previously in the 40's... Does anyone know how long it takes for the seomoz toolbar PA rank to refresh on a 301 redirect? I see where seomoz says the redirected page will retain between 90-99% off its link juice. I'm fine with losing a little if it would mean long term gains in terms of good on-page seo. Any ideas?

Impact of 301-redirected domains on OSE Metrics
When looking at the OSE metrics (DA, PA, Number Linking RDs etc.) is it purely based on OSEs evaluation of the specific domain or will it take into account links that have been 301-redirected to the domain?
