Need a link rel="canonical"??
-
I'm getting a Craw issue in my MOZ insights which says
"It looks like you're not using the rel="canonical" META attribute on any of the pages we crawled"
Do we need to have a rel="canonical" on our site? I can't find a reason to use it so don't know why it would be appearing as a crawl error?
Thanks

Hi David,
If you're confident enough that there is no duplicate related issues on your website, I wouldn't worry about implementing the canonical tag. You can use the tag on an individual page basis, should you feel that you need to tell Google which is the original page.

Hi there! Tawny from the Help Team here. Thanks for writing in - I think I can help here!
The notices you see in the Site Crawl section aren't necessarily errors or issues that need to be addressed - they are just pieces of information that might be helpful or interesting for you to know.
In this case, it looks like the tools are just letting you know that there isn't a rel="canonical" tag in place on the page. There's nothing wrong with that, but in many cases it's a good thing to have the tag, as it tells search engines which page to prioritize and index if there appears to be duplicate content or more than one version of a page. This isn't necessarily an issue you need to take an action to resolve, it's just some information that might be useful to you.
I hope this helps!

Good article. Thanks for the info

Hi David,
In a perfect world, I’d say to use rel=canonical on the home-page, known duplicates, and any pages with parameters that could drive duplicate content, and leave the rest alone.

Will Removing or Disavowing Toxic Links Improve MOZ Domain Authority?
The vast majority of the 140 domains that link to our website are very low quality directories or and other toxic links. Only about 20-30 domains are not toxic (according to Link Research Tools confirmed by out manual inspection of these links). Would removing some of these links improve of MOZ Domain Rank? What if we cannot remove them, can NOZ detect a disavow file? In general would improving the ratio between good quality and poor quality links improve domain authority? Thanks,

"Keywords Showing" total doesn't match "Tracked Keywords" total
My "Tracked Keywords" total under "Add & Manage Keywords" does not match the total for "Keywords Showing" on the main "Rankings" tab. Why is there a difference? For example, I have 453 tracked keywords attached to my campaign, but under the "Tracked Keywords Overview," there are only 254 listed. I'm sure there's a simple explanation but I can't find it anywhere!

Moz crawl issues: All pages keep resolving to our "cookies not enabled" page
Upon running the Moz Pro site crawler, I noticed that I received quite a bit of duplicate titles along with 302 redirects (which is our site creating a temporary 302 to our "cookies not enabled" page). How would I get around the crawler being redirected to this page? I've never ran across this issue before, despite using the crawler with sites that use the same framework as the one thats affected. Any ideas?

Anyone having problems with the Competitive Link Finder?
Half the reason I signed up for moz is because of the Competitive Link Finder. Every time I enter in the info and hit the go button in a split second I get this message "No common links found between sites, try adding more competitors" I've entered in several different searches for different industries and get the same message. I've tried it on several browsers and on a mac and pc. If anyone has an idea about what might be causing this please let me know.

Mozbar showing 0 links for pages in the main nav.
I'm working on a site where the mozbar is showing 0 links for every page in the main nav menu but home. A crawl of the site isn't showing any issues with blocked or nofollowed meta robots. Is this simply a bug in mozbar? What else could be causing this? If this is a problem with on page seo what is the solution?
