Location based IP Redirect cuasing Google Search Issue
-
Hi there,
My client has a .com.au site (www.example.com.au) for Australian visitors and a .com site for US visitors (www.example.shopify.com).
The .com.au site has a lot of content while the .com site has little content, due to only recently starting business in the US and due to seasonal offerings.
The client does not want US visitors to see the .com.au site. Se we set up an IP redirect, so users with a US IP address are directed to the .com site.
This negatively and significantly effected our Google organic search rankings on https://www.google.com.au My question is what is best practice solution in this situation?
thanks

Hi Michael
Thanks for your answer!
No I have not implemented hreflang to all domains. I know now this is something I need to to do and will get on to it.
FYI - Further research today uncovered this response from the officlal Google Webmasters Forum:
_Yes, redirecting Googlebot back to the .com site would be predictably disastrous for the .au site. _
_Google crawls from the US so will always see the IP redirect, it will have to be removed. Anticipating the next question "can we redirect users but not Googlebot? The answer is no." _
_Can you prevent US visitors from visiting the .au site? No. But if you GEO target the sites properly US visitors on Google will see the .com and Australian searchers will see .au. _
Unfortunately analytics was only set up after the redirect was put in place, so does not provide historical data. The client anecdotally feels the drop off in traffic through sales though. Search Console certainly does provide historical data that shows that massive drop in both impressions and clicks.

Have you implemented hreflang to all domains and URLs to indicate to Google your intentions with the domains/URLs?
Also have you checked Analyics >> Audience >> Geo >> Location of www.example.com.au for a period prior to your implementation to see if you have excluded a section of traffic? I know you said ranking but maybe you refer to traffic.

Changing Business Address on Google Profile & Citations
Hello, I'm looking to change a business address to a new one on a Google business profile (still in the same area but on a different street). So, I'll need to update all citations and website with the new address - Is it recommended to update the citations & website first, and then change the address on the Google business profile, or vice-versa? Looking to do this as safely as possible without negatively impacting the rankings much. I'm seeing a lot of conflicting information on this. Thanks in advance.

HOW DOES MOZ FILTER ISSUES ON WEBSITES?
Good day My company is trying moz for the first, and I am their web developer, I looked through the moz report and found something confusing when checking the issues. For example, I have URL:https://www.cham-training.co.za/free-skills-development-assessment.php and the mentioned URL can have parameters as follows: 1. https://www.cham-training.co.za/free-skills-development-assessment.php?target=Internship 2. https://www.cham-training.co.za/free-skills-development-assessment.php?target=Learnership the target parameter is just used to hold a value regarding the clients actual request, learnership, internship etc. However moz seem to recognize the same link with different parameters as different links and this makes the issue count to go up. For me, then this becomes false report. Please take a look at the attached image for reference. I got issues regarding duplicate title, but the truth is there's no duplicate titles its just that moz picks up the page as different because of the url parameters. Can someone please clarify why is that so or if there's any reason moz does that. I hope to hear from you guys soon. Thank you open?id=15uTf6Wn3jQWxELQodLgtlkswZKOtNSol

Is using meta refresh as a redirect method bad for our SEO?
Our CMS creates Call-To-Action buttons that use a meta refresh to redirect and MOZ stops it's crawl. The MOZ crawler hits these redirects and is unable to pass to the desired URL and so reports issues. So could this be happening to other crawlers or will most indexing be unaffected by this method? Essentially, is using meta refresh as a redirect method bad for our SEO?

Can we use the same titles and meta descriptions for all of our office locations? We have 18 locations in total.
Hello, TTR Data Recovery has 18 different office locations and I am wondering if we can use the same title and meta description for all locations and just change the location name...For example: #1 Best Data Recovery Services in Atlanta, GA| TTRDATA TTR Data Recovery offers a comprehensive suite of data recovery services in Atlanta, GA including Hard Drive, SSD, Server and RAID/NAS. Get A Free Quote! #1 Best Data Recovery Services in Miami, FL | TTRDATA TTR Data Recovery offers a comprehensive suite of data recovery services in Miami, FL, including Hard Drive, SSD, Server and RAID/NAS. Get A Free Quote! Would this be already, or would it be better if we had a unique title and meta description for every location? We want to get the same message across and it would be difficult to change the wording 18 times. I look forward to hearing back from you guys. Thank you.

Google's rel=publisher tag question
Hi, i have a question about the use of rel=publisher tag on a large retail website with multiple local stores. There is 1 e-commerce website where i want to put the rel publisher tag from the main Google + businesspage. There are also 60 local google+businesspages, And on the main website every store has his own store-page. Is it good to put on all the 60 storepages their own rel=publishertag connected with the localbusinesspages on google? Or should i Stick at the main rel=publisher tag connected with the main google+page? Thanx, Leonie

How do you get on Google Define?
I've noticed that when searching "define: _________ " there are times when Google will bring up a definition from a website. An example of this is when I searched "define: meta tag". Google brings up the definition given by searchenginewatch.com. When searching "define: meta description" Google returns a definition from hubspot.com. I also searched "define: seo" and Google returned a result from Wikipedia. So here's my questions: 1. How do I create a definition that appears in the SERPs? (is there code I should use for this? Does anybody know exactly how to do this?) 2. if I get a definition up, would the location effect the returned results? e.g. I put up a definition for "gobbledygook" on dansnasvhillebarbershop.com (of course located in Nashville). When Nashville locals search for the definition of "gobbledygook" will it pull the definition from dansnashvillebarbershop.com? 3. Do you have any places where I can read more about how it works and strategies to get definitions to come up in google? Thanks!
