How do I check how a competitor ranks in the UK vs. US?
-
In building my strategy I want to check how well my competitors rank in country specific searches, for example in Canada or the UK vs. the US.
Can someone help me by pointing me in the right direction?
Thanks

Jeremy,
The reply I offered is based on the belief you know your competitor's names and want to perform research on specific companies.
If you want to perform research on keywords then disregard my suggestion and go with Syed's.

Try Google's "Ad Preview tool". Search for::Google "Ad preview too" ::: - it should be the 1st listing in Google
In that, enter the keyword phrase, select the country, and you are good to go!
//Tried to include the link in this message but for some reason its not working when clicked on directly.
You can also try copy pasting this URL in new browser:
https://adwords.google.com/d/AdPreview/?__u=1000000000&__c=1000000000 -
For Google, you can simply navigate to Google.ca and type in a search query to see your competitors rankings.
SEOmoz offers Rank Tracker which allows you to specify a country and search engine.

What to do if ranking the wrong KW?
I wrote a blog article targeting a long-tail KW - "[primary KW] pricing revealed". the article is performing so well that is actually ranking 2nd nationally for my primary KW. I would rather have my conversion page rank for my primary KW obviously. I'm considering cutting and pasting the content from my blog page onto my conversion page with a 301 redirect from the blog to the conversion page. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks, Ryan

Blogs created by a company for us and another company
Hi, we are not a big company and as well as creating our own blogs, a company for a while now has provided us each month with blog posts. But hey also provide other companies in the UK with the same content. Each month we create 2 or 3 of our own generated blog posts relating to the services we provide. Also we receive on average 10 blog posts (pulled in to the site through a word press add in and an rss feed from the company) to the site. The content is about specific topics which people will be searching for and they are really well optimized pages. Our own blog posts are looked at more often 80% to 20% but we do have a great link from a national site with a DA of 97 linking to one of their blog posts. But I wondered if google penalizes us because there will be other companies across the UK with the exact same content as us? Or whether these blog posts will help us because it is great content, even though other companies will probably have the same posts on their site? Nobody in our area uses this content as we have an agreement with the company which provides it. Many Thanks

Can we use internal no-follow links without negatively affecting rankings
we are creating a site structure for a travel website. the site homepage has a top navigation bar with 8 top level links and a total link count of 33 links in this (within menus). There are also 10 footer and ad-hoc links As this top navigation bar is a site-wide navigation, when entering s specific "travel destination" page, the "travel destination" page has its own contextual links and reference links, making the total inks on the destination page approx 107. do you think its ok to make all links in the top navigation bar no follow on all pages except the homepage? how would you approach this to create less links to maintain effective link-juice flow to required pages

Absolute vs relative urls
Hello, Should absolute or relative urls to be used for the internal links? I heard mixed opinions on that: One source claims that web crawlers prefer absolute urls as they are more understandable Other source points that there is no difference for web crawlers what urls are used and relative urls are shorter which reduces the size of a page. Which option is recommended? Many thanks Darius
