Yodle Possible Nightmare? Help Please!
-
Hi there all,
I have a longtime client who got the big sales pitch from Yodle and ended up with a bunch of "marketing magic" items for $1649 a month including but probably not limited to:
1) An SEO package, 2) An Adversite with a keyword stuffed URL (looks like a crappy landing page but it has 3 or 4 pages), 3) a Google Adwords package and 4) a bunch of citation listing management.
We already have a website (currently in the midst of a total overhaul) that has ranked pretty well on Google for our industry and we've been working hard on citation clean up/management all along. We also already have a Google Adwords account that is actually starting to pay off. Essentially, they sold him on things we didn't need with a bunch of talk about algorithyms and how they are winning so many awards and how they could get his phone ringing with 50-60 leads a month, etc. Blah, blah, blah. They were very loud about their "close relationship" with Google which is what I assume got him the most interested.
Anyway, we got on the phone with them yesterday because I was really concerned about them wanting access to our Google My Business account and hearing that they would be changing the telephone # to their tracking # and the website address would be changed to the new one they made. I hear that kind of thing and I just think nightmare scenario with NAP stuff which is already a bit of a nightmare due to some other reasons (another story altogether). When I started questioning the support guy (who didn't really want to answer any questions directly), they backed off the GMB and citation talk and said that we would be able to customize the packages and they could get rid of that component and concentrate on Adwords and the lead generating "Adversite."
So that's where we are right now. The support guy went on to tell me that Google allows 10 websites as long as you only have one GMB/+ listing but that is antithetical to anything I've ever known. I haven’t given them manager access to GMB or any citation stuff (and won't) and the Adwords campaign they're working on is apparently on they own dashboard as they have yet to ask me about access to our AW account.
I guess the main thing I'm looking for is any guidance on how bad this is going to be for our Google rankings, etc. with the Adversite they created for us using a whole new web address for our company and a whole new telephone. Not to mention this Adwords campaign they're running that will be going to the new telephone and new website as well. It just seems like we're competing against ourselves in this scenario and splitting traffic and/or authority and kind of a recipe for a big setback. Any advice or suggestions here on how worried we need to be and if we should try to cancel before anything else happens (the site is already live and they also said the Adwords they’re doing is now live as well).
Thank you so much in advance for any comments!

Hey There,
Like Andy said - oh, dear! Just want to confirm:
-
No, you do not want more than 1 website for the business
-
Call tracking numbers, if utilized improperly, can really harm a business
-
Never give GMB access to anyone you don't trust
I have never worked with Yodle, but I do recommended reading and sharing these with your client:

Oh dear! That does sound like a bit of a mess.
First of all, don't not let them change your telephone number to a tracking one. If everything about you doesn't match up, then this will work against you. Google is very specific about this.
You also don't want lots of websites about you that all say the same thing. The advise that Google allows 10 websites is absolute trash. If they are duplicating information about you, then they are going against Google's guidelines.
My advice, yes, cancel. There is nothing I have read there that doesn't fill me with dread. These sorts of places that rattle through clients in this manner, don't care about being unethical or going against best practices. There is absolutely no substitution for a sensible SEO campaign where you aren't competing against your own site.

Do old backlinks still help with new URL with 301 redirect? Also I added the www. How does this affect it all?
I changed my URL from exampledetailing. com to exampleautodetailing. com. It is redirected with a 301. Also, it is on Squarespace AND I opted to add the www. So will the old backlinks of exampledetailing. com still help the new URL exampleautodetailing. com or do I need to try and update all the links? Also, future links, do I need to include the www. or just the root domain of exampleautodetailing. com or even the whole https://wwwexampleautodetailing. com? I believe the www is considered a sub domain and a new entity on Google, so I am not sure how that works. Thank you!

All metrics appear to be better than our local competitors yet we our ranking doesn't resemble it. Help?
Hi, I work for a marquee company and have recently been really trying to optimise our SEO through good content, link building, social media especially google + and so on. Yet a rival (www.camelotmarquees.com) who performs worse than us for the majority of the moz parameters still ranks better than us in both organic search and google places. The clear and obvious factor they beat us on is internal links which is currently over 15,000 which seems ridiculous for the size of their site, compared to our site of about 120. Would this have that match of an effect on the rankings and how on earth have they got so many? Also is there any tips and advice to help us leap frog them as we feel, we're producing regular, useful content and optimised our site the best we can? website: www.oakleafmarquees.co.uk keywords: marquee hire dorset, marquee dorset, dorset marquee hire, wedding marquee hire

RE: Keep Losing Keyword Ranking Position for Targeted Keyword Terms Can't Figure It Out, Please Help!!!
Hey Mozzers, I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out why one of my clients keeps losing their SERP for their targeted keyword terms. We're actively pursuing local citations, making sure their NAP is consistent across the board and refining on-page content to make sure that we're maximizing opportunities. The only thing I've found is a 4xx error that my Moz 'crawl diagnostics' keep returning back to me, however, when I check to see if there's any problems with Google Webmaster Tools, it doesn't return any errors. Is this 4xx error the culprit? Are there any suggestions any of you could give me to help me improve the SERP for my targeted keyword terms. Anyway, any and all insight can help. I'm at my wits end. Thanks for reading and for all of your help!

Perfect Site Structure help please and EMD question
Hello to all, I appreciate your time and trouble greatly, so thank you in advance. Question - 1 - I just watched a video regarding onsite seo. This video explained to instead of using a services page to list each service, instead if possible make a page and menu item for the most popular search terms. So my families business site is allspecialtybuildings.com We do construction. I currently have it setup to have a services page then the listings of the services with its own page under the menu. But from watching this video, would you also suggest that it would be best to take maybe the top 3 or 4 services, then list the services as actual page menus? So say instead of this: Service Menu Link -
Local Website Optimization | | Berner
-Pole Barns
-Indoor Riding Arenas
-Garages
-Horse Barns
-Loafing Sheds Would it be best to have each service as a menu in itself like this: Home
Pole Barns
-Pole Barn Construction
-Pole Barn Kits
-Pole Barn Color Charts Indoor Riding Arenas
-Indoor Riding Arena Construction
-Indoor Riding Arena Kits
-Indoor Riding Arena Color Charts Same- Different word
Same- Different Word So basically create specific and relevant pages and remove the popular pages from a service page. Not sure if this make sense, or is basically not needed? Last Question - Branding- I got 2 seo companies reviews back, and was told to change my branding and domain. See the issue is that the company name is All Specialty Buildings. So All is basically thrown out of some search results, almost like its a stop word. So "Specialty Buildings" shows up on many results. I would like to counter this. So I am curious if I get a new domain, like say something like ColoradoBarnConstruction.com Would this be a better domain for seo rankings and memory for people? Or would I risk an EMD penalty? When I look for dentists, or seo help, I get coloradodentist, or coloradoseo(dot)com's So they all rank well, I just want something brandable and easy to remember. I figured the company name would be best, But these companies that want 3500 a month for seo services are saying different. Again thank you for your time, your ideas, and your advice. Thank you Chris0 -
Local Rank & Branding Confusion - HELP
I am working with a client now that has two sites that serve two segments of a particular market segment. They have two different URLs which cater to these different target markets BUT the company is known in its local market as a their brand name (of course) which is different than their 2 domain names used on these 2 sites. Confusing eh? This has resulted in confusing Google and their rank has suffered a bit. To provide more color + insight- Let's just say this company is called AtlantaEventsInc and they offer event services for corporate events and let's say weddings. So let's say they have had atlantaeventscorporate.com for 20 years and then they add atlantaeventweddings.com about a year ago since their wedding business is expanding. So they promote their corporate events on one site and their wedding events on another. These 2 sites also currently share one blog, share one Facebook page, one Twitter and have two Google+ pages. Should we keep these two sites totally separate? and even have separate blogs and separate social media accounts? OR since our rank has only suffered with the new wedding site (just a year old) should we retire that site? (i suppose we could still keep separate blogs though for each target market. WOULD LOVE INSIGHT ON THIS! Thanks, Chris
