Site IA considering a "Resources" section
-
I'm working on a resources section for our website and I'm wondering the best way to handle my sites information architecture. The resources section houses things like webinars (both upcoming and recorded), case studies, ebooks, etc. Should things like webinars and case studies be considered supporting content to our main topics?
For example we have a product that manages Rebates. So we have a page on our site dedicated to "Rebates". Would a webinar or case study about our Rebates software be grouped with "Rebates" or would it be grouped by content/resource type?
So for example a breadcrumb could look like this:
Home > Rebates > Rebates Webinar
or
Home > Webinars > Rebates Webinar
Thanks in advance!

Yes, I would link. Yes, it would change breadcrumbs.

So on the rebates page you would have a short summary but would you then link to the page under webinars? Because that changes your breadcrumb.
So originally you are here:
Home > Rebates (Short summary with link or button to webinar rebate description)
click the link then go here:
Home > Webinars > Rebates Webinar

Yes, I'm suggesting to have it in two places, but in different formats/content forms. Kinda like preview vs full content.

Hi Dimitri,
Thanks for responding, I follow what you are saying regarding the breadcrumbs. But I'm confused about where the content should actually live. Are you suggesting that the content be in two places? Then use a canonical to point to the one that should be indexed?

Hi there.
I say it should be both. A page/topic can fall under several categories, and in your case it does. Breadcrumbs should be displayed accordingly to the path user takes. So, if they found rebates webinar on a webinar page, the breadcrumbs would be Home > Webinars > Rebates Webinar. And so on. As for where to link it from - again, i say from both categories/pages. However, under webinars it would be a "main topic" as you said, and on rebates page it would be a supporting topic. Something like "Oh, by the way check out webinars we have about rebates here". And small link or button. While under webinars it should have it's own section and stuff.
Hope this makes sense

Is it recommended to use SEO plugin for falamakmachine site?
Hello good time Is it recommended to use SEO plugin for dedicated sites? Or do you think we should change the dedicated CMS to WordPress based on the convenient user interface that WordPress has. http://www.falamakmachine.com/productListDetail.aspx?catID=1

Stolen Content reposted on other sites. How does this affect ranking?
Visitors often copy and paste my content and post it elsewhere... on Facebook, on Tumblr, on forums and sometimes on competing websites... but they don't link to me. How does Google treat this duplicated content? What is the best way to handle it? File DCMA claims or ask them for a link?

Blogger.com with an RSS Feed or on-site blog?
I have a client who uses blogger.com as their blogging platform, however this isn't helping to build the depth of their domain. They like to use this because it is easier for them than to create a blog post in their wordpress website. I am wondering if adding a feed to their site on a dedicated blog page would help SEO at all or would it be best to teach them how to use the wordpress CMS to blog? I was thinking that by adding the feed since it is their original content that it might have a similar effect. I know this is probably simple but I want to see what the moz community says. Thanks.

E-Commerce Site - Duplicate Content
We run an e-commerce site with about 250,000 SKUs. Certain items, such as a micro USB car charger, will be applicable to several different phones. Example: http://www.wirelessemporium.com/p-165787-samsung-galaxy-proclaim-illusion-sch-i110-heavy-duty-car-charger.asp http://www.wirelessemporium.com/p-165856-sony-xperia-ion-4g-lte-att-heavy-duty-car-charger.asp As one can imagine with so many items, unique content for each item description page can be a challenge. What would be the best way to address this on a large scale?

Seasonal site structure
Bit of a complicated one for anyone who likes a challenge.. We sell a range of products which are very seasonal, so therefore have a seasonal section within the store with the products categorized into their relevant categories. In additon to this i wanted to also create a feature of each season so in effect pull forward on to a new tab the relevant season ie: Valentine so that customers didn't have to hunt for the products by going via seasonal shop etc The problem is that my site urls display last-category/product-title so in effect as the seasons change these urls will be deleted. They do remain elsewhere in our catalogue.. Does this make sense?

On-Site Optimization and Repeat Customers
Hello, One of my clients has repeat customers. All of his surface level categories are optimized. None of his 2nd or 3rd level categories are optimized at all. Is there any harm in optimizing these 2nd or 3rd level categories. Is there any way it could cause a problem with repeat customers? I didn't think so but I want to make sure. Thanks!

Tell us more on this, because we forget sometimes the rich-content-optimized and only concentrated on the link-building. Thanks,
