What is the perfect way to handle multiple sitemaps index in Search Console?
-
Hello friends,
I have this doubt for a long and i want to share it with you.
In our agency many clients have a PHP template for the home page of their sites, and also have a blog with wordpress as CMS.
When i am optimizing sitemaps, I have two separate files, an index of Sitemaps created with Wordpress SEO by Yoast (which inside has separate Sitemaps tags, categories, posts, pages, authors, etc.) and on the other hand the home page sitemap with the subsections.
As you know the sitemap generated by "Wordpress SEO by Yoast" is dynamic as it creates the sitemap according to current site content, and is updated every time a new entry is raised or modify any URL. This makes it very practical.
I can not have a unique index sitemap sitemaps nesting inside another, as it is not allowed by Google or Sitemap protocol. I read in the Google Support you can upload multiple sitemaps to Search Console but does not say anywhere on upload multiple sitemaps index, or a combination thereof.
In my case, I would have to upload two separately files, the dynamically generated with wordpress and the manual created for the PHP template.
In my opinion there is no problem and Google will index everything properly performing it this way, but I wanted to share it with you to see how you solve this problem and what experiences had.
Thanks and best regards.

Hi Juan,
Nope, there is no problem in uploading several sitemaps and/or index of sitemaps.
I haven't either found anyone that said anything about that.Best Luck!

Hi Juan,
I don't see any issue doing that, we've been doing that for years and never had issues with submitting multiple sitemap indexes. At some point for bigger sites you always work with multiple platforms that might have their own plugins that can be used to generate sitemaps + indexes. So submitting them to Google Search Console shouldn't be an issue because of that.
Martijn.

What should I be shooting for for search visibility percentage?
Realistically - what's a "good" search visibility score? I'm working on a site that has been around less than a year. We are doing 3 blogs a week with carefully selected keywords. I know it will take time and lots of SEO work - but I'm interested in any ideas on what I should shoot for. Thanks for any thoughts! (Also not a local listing or anything - national search.)

What is the best way to have two online stores, each focusing on a specific country?
The dilemma here of course is that the stores will be very similar in content, with the domains only being different in that the store targeting the US will be a .com domain and the Canadian store is a .ca domain.

Local searches
If a page is optimized for certain search terms that have "nyc" at the end of them, will that help the page appear when someone in NYC searches for the terms without the "nyc" part? Thank you!

Is having this sitemap worthwhile?
I know that a sitemap can help SEs to find and index pages, and also deal with canonicalisation issues, but I have a client who is insisting that we build a sitemap containing links to every possible category on a huge ecommerce site. We already have tabbed modules that allow users to sort by brand, product type, location etc, plus a strong search function that allows them to select multiple options. I'm worried that a sitemap stuffed with keywords like "Product A by brand B in Location C", "Product A by brand B in Location D" etc. will just seem spammy and do more harm than good. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks.

Why are some of page indexed and others not
I have created a site structure like this: domain/for-sale/brand domain/for-sale/brand-model domain/for-sale/brand-model/pg1 domain/for-sale/brand-model/pg2 domain/for-sale/brand-model/pg3 etc.... I cannot understand why the domain/for-sale/brand-model does not seem to be indexed, yet the domain/for-sale/brand-model/pg6 is? This is a new site, but I cannot understand why this URL would be indexed without the others... Any ideas? My home pages has links to the domain/for-sale/brand, this page has links to domain/for-sale/brand-model1, domain/for-sale/brand-model2 etc, each of these pages have links to domain/for-sale/brand-model/pg1, domain/for-sale/brand-model/pg2 etc...

How would you handle network header links?
Some companies have a lot of sites covering various topics, for example, http://ninemsn.com.au/. Each category also have dropdown menus where there are more links, taking their pages to well over 100 links. Should these headers be implemented in javascript? Is there a list of best practices somewhere when dealing with a lot of network sites? I'd prefer to reduce the number of links, but sometimes company policies don't allow this. Any suggestions or tips would be helpful.

Tool for Generating Sitemap/ URL List
HI, I'm looking for a tool that'll generate a URL list for a site. I looked at this thread here http://www.seomoz.org/q/online-sitemap-generator which came up when I searched for sitemap generator. However, I don't need a sitemap per se, and I don't need to submit it to Google - just a list of pages is what I need.If it updated automatically, that would be useful as well. Anyone know of a tool, on or offline? Or anyone used Xenu and know if it's what I'm looking for? Or is there a simple solution that I'm missing? Thanks.
