Duplicate Page Content Issue
-
Hello,
I recently solved www / no www duplicate issue for my website, but now I am in trouble with duplicate content again. This time something that I cannot understand happens: In Crawl Issues Report, I received Duplicate Page Content for
http://yourappliancerepairla.com (DA 19)
http://yourappliancerepairla.com/index.html (DA 1)
Could you please help me figure out what is happenning here? By default, index.html is being loaded, but this is the only index.html I have in the folder. And it looks like the crawler sees two different pages with different DA... What should I do to handle this issue?

Thank you!

They are different ways of doing practically the same thing. In your .htaccess you would set up the /index.html to be 301 redirected to yourappliancerepairla.com. Which will redirect any user that lands on /index.html to yourappliancerepairla.com.
The canonical tag doesn't redirect the user to the homepage, but it tells google or any other search engine that the "original" content is yourappliancerepairla.com rather than /index.html or /home.html or www.yourappliancerepairla.com and so on.
I would give the edge to canonical tags, but 301 redirects in the .htaccess file do have their use.
Looking at your site (viewing the page source) your home nav link is pointing to /index.html you can change that to http://yourappliancerepairla.com or simply " / " that change might actually fix your issue... but I would still put a canonical tag in the header of index.html for defensive purposes. Also consider placing a canonical for all your pages as a defensive mechanism to duplicate content.
It's considered a duplicate because index.html does exist, index.html is the physical file of the homepage where you change code. All of these pages are possibilities your homepage (there are more):
http://yourappliancerepairla.com
http://www.yourappliancerepairla.com
https://yourappliancerepairla.com
https://yourappliancerepairla.com
http://yourappliancerepairla.com/index.html
http://www.yourappliancerepairla.com/index.html
There are more possibilities. That is why the canonical tag is important here. Also consider google search console and setting up properties for http non www, http www, https non www, and https www all pointing to the preferred version of your site which would be the http non www.

Is this better than updating my .htaccess file? Could you explain me please why the second one, with DA of 1 and that doesn't even exist (you cannot access it) is considered to be a duplicate?
http://yourappliancerepairla.com (DA 19)
http://yourappliancerepairla.com/index.html (DA 1)
Thank you!

On the index.html page, in your section place a canonical tag pointing to http://yourappliancerepairla.com

Email and landing page duplicate content issue?
Hi Mozers, my question is, if there is a web based email that goes to subscribers, then if they click on a link it lands on a Wordpress page with very similar content, will Google penalize us for duplicate content? If so is the best workaround to make the email no index no follow? Thanks!

Content incorrectly being duplicated on microsite
So bear with me here as this is probably a technical issue and i am not that technical. We have a microsite for one of our partner organisations and recently we have detected that content from our main site appearing in the URLs for the microsite - both in search results and then when you click through to the SERP. However, this content does not exist on the actual website at all. Anyone have a possible explanation for this? I have tried searching the web but nothing. I assume there is something in the set up of the microsite that is associating it with the content on the main site.

Duplicate Content
Hello guys, After fixing the rel tag on similar pages on the site I thought that duplicate content issue were resolved. I checked HTML Improvements on GWT and instead of going down as I expected, it went up. The duplicate issues affect identical product pages which differ from each other just for one detail, let's say length or colour. I could write different meta tags as the duplicate is the meta description, and I did it for some products but still didn't have any effects and they are still showing as duplicates. What would the problem be? Cheers

How to protect against duplicate content?
I just discovered that my company's 'dev website' (which mirrors our actual website, but which is where we add content before we put new content to our actual website) is being indexed by Google. My first thought is that I should add a rel=canonical tag to the actual website, so that Google knows that this duplicate content from the dev site is to be ignored. Is that the right move? Are there other things I should do? Thanks!

Client has 3 websites, for various locations & duplicate content is a big issue...Is my solution the best?
Hi guys, I have a client who has 3 websites all for different locations in the same state in Australia. Obviously this is not the best practice but in the meeting he said that each area is quite particular about where they do business. What he means is that people from one area want to do business with a website from that particular area. He has 3 domains and we have duplicate content issues. We are solving these at the moment with the canonical tag however they are redesigning the site soon. My suggestion is that we have 1 domain and sub domains for the other 2 areas. This way the people from that area will see the company is from their area. Also this way we have 1 domain to optimise and build domain authority for. Has anyone else come across this and is my solution the best for this? Thanks! Jon

Magento and Duplicate content
I have been working with Magento over the last few weeks and I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the way it is setup. If you go to a product page and remove the sub folders one by one you can reach the same product pages causing duplicate content. All magento sites seem to have this weakness. So use this site as an example because I know it is built on magento, http://www.gio-goi.com/men/clothing/tees/throve-t-short.html?cid=756 As you remove the tees then the clothing and men sub folders you can still reach the product page. My first querstion is how big an issue is this and two does anyone have any ideas of how to solve it? Also I was wondering how does google treat question marks in urls? Should you try and avoid them unless you are filtering? Thanks
