Client has 3 websites, for various locations & duplicate content is a big issue...Is my solution the best?
-
Hi guys,
I have a client who has 3 websites all for different locations in the same state in Australia.
Obviously this is not the best practice but in the meeting he said that each area is quite particular about where they do business. What he means is that people from one area want to do business with a website from that particular area.
He has 3 domains and we have duplicate content issues. We are solving these at the moment with the canonical tag however they are redesigning the site soon.
My suggestion is that we have 1 domain and sub domains for the other 2 areas. This way the people from that area will see the company is from their area.
Also this way we have 1 domain to optimise and build domain authority for.
Has anyone else come across this and is my solution the best for this?
Thanks!
Jon

HI Sanket,
The poster is not talking about international content, but three locations within the same state.
If you quote from another source, it's helpful to let the community know the source of the post so they can find more information (and is a courtesy to the blog author as well). For more information about the first main paragraph, http://www.seomoz.org/blog/duplicate-content-in-a-post-panda-world is the source article from Dr. Pete.
As for spinning content, I would not advise spun content.

hi,
There are two solution for the Local SEO :
If you want to create pages for targeting geographic location then you have to post unique content for every geographic region and If you aren’t willing to make that investment, then don’t create the pages. They’ll probably backfire. This site is best example for your problem: http://bandelal.com/

I second this. I have dealt with clients that have done the same thing. Have one domain (ie companyname.com) and use the footer to display the contact info for each location. Try not to promote any office more than the other and there shouldn't be an issue. In my experience the visitors will not care.
Do really awesome local SEO and set up places pages for each location, etc.

How would this client feel about a single website with a top banner that proclaimed:
Stores in Sydney, Canberra and New Castle!
I am willing to bet one month's pay that a single site will be more successful than three separate sites.

How to deal with duplicated content on product pages?
Hi, I have a webshop with products with different sizes and colours. For each item I have a different URL, with almost the same content (title tag, product descriptions, etc). In order to prevent duplicated content I'am wondering what is the best way to solve this problem, keeping in mind: -Impossible to create one page/URL for each product with filters on colour and size -Impossible to rewrite the product descriptions in order to be unique I'm considering the option to canonicolize the rest of de colours/size variations, but the disadvantage is that in case the product is not in stock it disappears from the website. Looking forward to your opinions and solutions. Jeroen

Duplicate Content Issues
We have some "?src=" tag in some URL's which are treated as duplicate content in the crawl diagnostics errors? For example, xyz.com?src=abc and xyz.com?src=def are considered to be duplicate content url's. My objective is to make my campaign free of these crawl errors. First of all i would like to know why these url's are considered to have duplicate content. And what's the best solution to get rid of this?

Lots of duplicate content warnings
I have a site that says that I have 2,500 warnings. It is a real estate website and of course we use feeds. it says I have a lot of duplicate content. One thing is a page called "Request an appointment" and that is a url for each listing. Since there are 800 listings on my site. How could I solve this problem so that this doesn't show up as duplicate content since I use the same "Request an Appointment" verbeage on each of those? I guess my developer who used php to do it, created a dedicated url to each. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Duplicate content connundrum
Hey Mozzers- I have a tricky situation with one of my clients. They're a reputable organization and have been mentioned in several major news articles. They want to create a Press page on their site with links to each article, but they want viewers to remain within the site and not be redirected to the press sites themselves. The other issue is some of the articles have been removed from the original press sites where they were first posted. I want to avoid duplicate content issues, but I don't see how to repost the articles within the client's site. I figure I have 3 options: 1. create PDFs (w/SEO-friendly URLs) with the articles embedded in them that open in a new window. 2. Post an image with screenshot of article on a unique URL w/brief content. 3. Copy and paste the article to a unique URL. If anyone has experience with this issue or any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Jaime Brown
