Can improving page authority on all pages help overall domain auth?
-
Our website is made up of approx 4000 pages - some of which are old pages with a pa of 1.
I am removing these pages (ensuring they don't have links etc). Can removing so many low scoring and useless pages impact on domain authority.
Our DA jumped 4 points and i wondered if this was helping
Example
4000 pages in total
2500 have PA 1 - these get removed
will it look better for DA that overall there are now no pages where PA =1 and the site now contains higher PA pages only?

Hi Ria,
thanks for your reply, yes i am pruning out the bad pages, however i am looking at many factors not just PA. So seems i am on the right track and will continue

Thanks JO,
Yes i just wondered if it could impact over da also. I am carrying out this task as the pages are poor so will continue regardless, but just thought "i wonder if ..."

HI Thomas,
Oh don't worry i am removing them to improve the site for many reasons not simply moz metrics.
I simply wondered if it would have an effect on this also.

Hi Gemma,
I would agree with these answers from Thomas and Ria, and I would add that the Domain Authority calculation is based on dozens of factors includes link counts, MozRank and MozTrust scores etc, it's not just a tally of the authority of all your pages.
https://moz.com/learn/seo/domain-authority
I usually use high PA to help guide me towards pages that I want to action fixes on, for example missing title tags or any other errors highlighted through the site crawl. However I would be careful inverting this to cull pages with PA 1 without further assessing their value.
I hope this helps!

Seems you're on the right track, but I wouldn't pay too close attention to the PA and instead focus on culling the pages that offer no value to the user. The pages that are perhaps duplicate content, or can be merged with another page to create a stronger, more relevant page. Reducing or pruning the number of thin pages to maximise the value and quality of the pages you keep will help with the overall health of your website.
If you only look at PA, then you may end up getting rid of a potentially valuable page that simply didn't have the opportunity to perform well before.

Stop trying to sculpt your site to get a better DA, ultimately Moz's DA and PA are metrics, you shouldn't be changing your site around these purely. Instead what you need to be doing it trying to tweak your site to what's best for the user. Do these pages add value to the site and if not what can you do to improve them, if they can't be improved then remove them.
The key metric you should be looking at is the number of visitors that you are getting.

Help needed.
Hey experts I hope you are all doing great, please have a look at my blog https://iriveramerica.com, when I check it with link explorer there are 92% domains with spam score below 20 and only 2.1% of the domains with spam score more than 60. I have compared its backlinks to some other domains, those domains have more than 3 or 4% backlinks with spam scores greater than 60 but have much lower spam score as compared to mine, some even have 1% spam score? I have disavowed many backlinks but its not updated in Moz yet. I know there are 27+ factors which decide your spam score but how can I get the breakdown now as it was shown in the older versions of open site explorer like: No contact information, low domain trust, less internal links? Kind regards...

How long does it take to turn around a 10/17 SPAM score domain?
Hi - Looking at acquiring a domain name that has a great product fit. The problem is it is currently getting a 10/17 Open Site Explorer SPAM score. The existing site for the domain is running Google sponsored link ads and is full of internal pages that link off to these ads. That explains the existing SPAM score. If I acquire the domain I'll throw out the Google ad pages and build instead a site with real valuable content that behaves like a normal site and look at building backlinks etc. My question is, following this approach, how long is it likely to take Google to not see the domain as some Spam factory so it starts getting well positioned SERPs?

Pagination & Duplicate Page Title
I was under the impression that pagination resolved duplicate page title issues with Google, but Moz is flagging them up as duplicates. Is this just a case of Moz not being able to understand pagination or am I missing something? i.e. correctly formatted pagination: http://thespacecollective.com/space-memorabilia/page/4

Can't see the link I earned from Moz in OSE
Hi Mozzers, A month ago I got the nofollow tag removed from the first custom link on my Moz profile but I can't see this in our links on OSE? SEO Spyglass shows it just fine. Is this related to the delays in the back end of Moz or have I set up my profile wrong? Cheers! Jamie

Why does the number of the total external links and the followed linking root domains between Open site explorer and the campaign in Moz pro doesn't match?
Opensiteexplorer returns 52.473 total external links and 715 followed linking root domains while my campaign in Moz analytics return 35.899 total external links and 1092 followed linking root domains. Does anyone knows how this is possible?

Open Site Explorer not detecting linking domain on my site
So I was using Open Site Explorer to analyze my domain authority and page authority as can be seen here. My site has been covered by some press and in the article it actually links my site. Some of the articles can be seen on, here, here, and here. Any idea why none of these articles are detected as a linking domain to my site? Is there something that I am doing wrong?
