Setting Up Hreflang and not getting return tag errors
-
I've set up a dummy domain (Not SEO'd I know) in order to get some input on if I'm doing this correctly.
Here's my option on the set up and https://technicalseo.com/seo-tools/hreflang/ is saying it's all good. I'm self-referencing, there's a canonical, and there is return tags.
https://topskiphire.com - US & International English Speaking Version
https://topskiphire.com/au/ - English language in Australia
The Australian version is on a subdirectory. We want it this way so we get full value of our domain and so we can expand into other countries eventually e.g. UK.
Q1. Should I be self-referencing or should I have only a canonical for US site?
Q2. Should I be using x-default if we're only in the English language?
Q3. We previously failed when we had errors come back saying 'return tags not found' on a separate site even though the tags were on both sites. Was this because our previous site was only new and Google didn't rank it as often as our main domain.

Should I remove the og:locale in Yoast that for some reason references 'en_US'. I'm using Wordpres multisite so I think it pulls the default language in the plugin even though 'en_AU' is in the head of the AU site.

Yes, in your HREF Lang tags you're always self referencing them as well.

Mobile Canonical Tag Issue
Hey so, For our site
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | ggpaul562
we have the desktop version: www.site.com/product-name/product-code/ The mobile version www.site.com/mobile/product-name/product-code So...on the desktop version we'd have the following.. | | Now my question is, what do we do as far as canonicals on the actual mobile URL? Would it be this? | |
| | OR are we NOT supposed to have mobile canonical tags whatsoever since we've already added "rel alternate" ? Would like some clarificaiton. | | |0 -
News Errors In Google Search Console
Years ago a site I'm working on was publishing news as one form of content on the site. Since then, has stopped publishing news, but still has a q&a forum, blogs, articles... all kinds of stuff. Now, it triggers "News Errors" in GWT under crawl errors. These errors are "Article disproportionately short" "Article fragmented" on some q&a forum pages "Article too long" on some longer q&a forum pages "No sentences found" Since there are thousands of these forum pages and it's problem seems to be a news critique, I'm wondering what I should do about it. It seems to be holding these non-news pages to a news standard: https://support.google.com/news/publisher/answer/40787?hl=en For instance, is there a way and would it be a good idea to get the hell out of Google News, since we don't publish news anymore? Would there be possible negatives worth considering? What's baffling is, these are not designated news urls. The ones we used to have were /news/title-of-the-story per... https://support.google.com/news/publisher/answer/2481373?hl=en&ref_topic=2481296 Or, does this really not matter and I should just blow it off as a problem. The weird thing is that we recently went from http to https and The Google News interface still has us as http and gives the option to add https, which I am reluctant to do sine we aren't really in the news business anymore. What do you think I should do? Thanks!

Can I put a video transcript into a title tag?
I use wistia.com to embed videos onto my company website. Because of the way I have my page setup, I have to embed my video using the iframe embed option. Since I'm using this option, my video transcript isn't going to be SEO friendly. Can I manually insert a title tag within the video iFrame code with the entire transcript? Would that be a good workaround so that I can have the transcript help my page optimization? Thanks! Andrea

How important is it to fix Server Errors?
I know it is important to fix server errors. We are trying to figure out how important because after our last build we have over 19,646 of them and since google only gives us a 1000 at a time the fastest way to tell them we have fixed them all is to use the api etc which will take time. WE are trying to decide is it more important to fix all these errors right now or focus on other issues and fix these errors when we have time, they are mostly ajax errors. Could this hurt our rankings? Any thoughts would be great!

Canonical tag vs 301
What is the reason that 301 is preferred and not rel canonical tag when it comes to implementing redirect. Page rank will be lost in both cases. So, why prefer one over the other ?
