What Are other people using in replacement for sliders?
-
Hello, Moz Community! I am currently trying to replace a slider on our client's site. Sliders, in my opinion, are awful, they slow load times and just don't convey a solid message. I am using Wordpress and the visual composer plugin. Any ideas are really appreciated even they may seem a bit much, if I don't know how to do it I will figure it out. I apologize as well if this isn't the appropriate place for this type of question.

Hey, George! Thanks for the response, I am just at the point of wanting them gone, the crusade has begun! Thank you for the full-width idea. I am still a BIG Noobie to all of this, so any help is appreciated. Thank you!!

Thank you, Donald! I honestly didn't know the engagement window was so small. I will really consider this and apply it. I appreciate the response!

Thank you so much, Martin! I really do appreciate the help. This article was actually very helpful!

Well my personal slider preference is https://smartslider3.com/ it's light, it's groovy and it's free.
On the other hand, if you are an anti-stlider crusader then a full width image with a strong call to action will do the trick.

A powerful call to action should be used. You have about 8 seconds to appeal to the visitor and get them to engage with the brand. What you is present above the fold is everything.
-
Hey there,
I've found this article full of alternatives for sliders. I hope this might help you.

Do Google Know What People Are Doing On My Site?
I run an ecommerce site and am keep to increase the time on site and reduce bounce rate. I have had some good results from writing good articles and advertising them on Outbrain and Twitter; both of these metrics have improved. However, I am wondering if Google will see this. Clearly if people land on the pages from the SERPS and return there they will know what is happening but will they know if people get there from an advert?

Use of trademarks in tags and text
Does Google spider read registered trademarks (the 'R' or 'TM') or do these marks impede anything if they are featured in meta tags or text?

Trying to SEO a site that used Header Tags for Design
I am trying to SEO a website that was built years ago and uses Header tags for design. The site must have 25 and tags used for design purpose. Is there any way to work around this problem? Perhaps a code that tells Google to ignore these as Headers? The web designers say that they are looking to fix the problem sometime this summer but you never know if that means it a month away or years away. I really want to help this website but I believe that the Header tags are one of the reasons that his site does not show in the top 100 rankings for any keywords. Any help would be great. www.wallybuysell.com Chris.K

To use or not to use: Keywords with locations
Hello there. I work for a marketing agency that manages SEO campaigns for a variety of small businesses in South Florida. Let's say we have a client that sells cheap shoes at their store location. Obviously, we want to show up in Google rankings for search terms like "cheap shoes south florida" or "cheap shoes miami." Now, my question is, when optimizing a website's content for various keywords, is it really necessary to include keywords with the location (which are often awkward for both reading and writing purposes)? Ideally, I'd prefer to have text that always reads as naturally as possible. Text like this is just an eyesore: Welcome to ExampleSite.com, home of the best cheap shoes Florida. We offer all kinds of cheap shoes Boca Raton. Your whole family doesn't have enough fingers and toes to count how many cheap shoes West Palm Beach we have in stock! Contact us to ask about our cheap shoes Miami discounts today! Olé!" What say you? Is there a way to work around ugly SEO text like this while still effectively ranking for GEO terms? Thanks!

Using Transcription Service For Videos - Have Question Around Search and Spiders
Hi All, So I have put together a weekly video series on security topics. I have read an SEOmoz post around how you can boost SEO by adding the transcription to the page, which makes perfectly good sense. My question is, can I include the first couple of paragraphs and then have a "read the full transcription" so when the user clicks, the rest of the content appears? Do the search engine spiders only crawl the first two paragraphs in this instance or do they crawl the whole thing even though the entire content is not on the page? I dont mind making the page longer and including the entire transcription if it is easier for SEO but if there is no difference, than I think the first option would be the best user experience. Thanks for the help Pat

Using display: none in h1 tag
Hello, For the h1 tag on my landing page, I currently have 'Welcome to Edison Ford'. I was thinking of adding the keyword I'm targeting (property maintenance bristol) to the h1 tag which would look like this 'Welcome to Edison Ford Property Maintenance Bristol' Would it be a good idea to wrap the property maintenance bristol part in a span tag and add 'display: none;' to the styling? Thanks in advance.

Should I use a Page Name variable after the ? for a dynamic web page
I'm converting for static to dynamic web pages. It appears that the page name is used for page ranking in the search engines. Will adding a Page Name variable help to increase our SEO. For example aspecialgift.com/subcat.php?PageName=GiftPage&ProductID=ABCDE. Does the page name variable make a difference?
