Does the position of your main keyword phrase matter within the page?
-
The addition of a new grid type navigation within the body of our page could mean that the keyword phrase the page is optimized for could be pushed below the fold. Is this a bad thing?
-
Hello Donald
Thank you for your reply. Apologies for not responding. I didn't get a notification! A new navigation grid was potentially going to push descriptive text below the fold. The new grid will have text overlying the grid images. As you have rightly said the key to an optimised design is to provide a good user experience and so we have juggled the elements about and put the description (including our keyword phrase) above the grid which moves it above the fold.
Thanks again
Catherine

That was a possibility with one of the designs. The new, navigation grid (aimed at improving navigation) would potentially push the keyword phrase below the fold.
Really sorry for the slow response - for some reason I didn't get a notification of your comment!

I agree, Donald. And to answer your question, yes, it most certainly matters.
So, your new navigation is pushing your page content below the fold? Is that correct Catherine?
-
Hi Catherine,
As far as matter of importance is concerned, you main keyword phrase should technically be in your H1 tag. This will tell crawlers that this information is most important. If you are using images above the fold is there text on these images? What is pushing your main keyword phrase below the fold?
Google will generally rank the page based on the overall content and the value it gives to the searcher.

URL structure of the page: Does this one need to contain the most important keyword for better SEO?
Hi everyone, I’m trying to get "air-conditioner-repair.html" to rank higher for the keyword "air conditioner los angeles". I am wondering whether or not I should change URL to "air-conditioner-los-angeles-repair.html" to get better results? Will be thankful very much for any advise you can offer!

Meta Keywords
Hello! Just wondering what opinions others have on Meta Keywords? Ive read in the past here on Seomoz that they are irrelevant now to search engines. I do see some of our Large competitors still using them. When I use the SEO page tool to check out pages for optimization it recommends that we remove them? This is something that I have been doing for a few months now but am second guessing myself now. Should I continue to leave them out of current page structure? Thank You!!!!

Keyword confusion
Thanks for taking the time to read through this. I'm currently optimizing a website and have a few structural questions: How should one view targeting keywords with respect to the home page of any given site? EG -> If the home page has the preferred keywords at the beginning of title and the page follows most if not all the recommendations from SEOMOZ tools, why are sub pages outranking my root domain for the set of keywords I'm after? When sub pages use my homepage keyword as the 2nd keyword in its respective title, does that give the overall homepage more power for the keyword it's after? EG. Homepage Title "ABC DEF - DEF ABC - XYZ | Company name I'm targeting "ABC DEF" for the home page Subpage title -> "DEF ABC - ABC DEF - XYZ | Company Name. The sub page keyword is "DEF ABC"

How to avoid keyword stuffing on e-Commerce Category pages
Hi, I'm optimizing a large, consumer electronic e-commerce superstore. Based on client's choice of keywords, I'm using product category pages as my target urls. Because of the proprietary CMS structure, product names and titles, featured on my landing pages (product category pages) create a keyword overkill, affecting various ranking factors. For example, one of the target urls / landing pages, dedicated to a specific product category, mentions the keyword over 190 times because of so many product titles in the "body" section. Would inline "rel="canonical" help? If yes, what part of the website should it "canonize"? If rel="canonical" is not the answer, what strategies would you suggest? Thanks!

How to use good keyword URL to help main site
Hi. I'm a long time ecommerce guy and starting a third business. The main site URL is the name of the new business but I also purchased a .com URL that is our #1 keyword to target. So I need to know the best strategy to use the keyword url for helping with getting a top ranking for that keyword. I'm curious if I can or should build out the keyword URL site for the search engines and use a 301 redirect. Can you get top ranking for a site that just redirects? Anyway, I guess you get my question. This keyword gets a ton of perfectly targeted traffic so seems like a goldmine if I work it right. Thanks very much.
