INTERNAL LINKS strategy on our website
-
Hi Moz-ers,
Currently doing an audit of our website. I have two questions on links. How can I see the current state of my internal links?
Also, how can I improve our internal links on the website?
- what is a good framework to follow
- what should I avoid
Thanks, looking forward to learning more on Moz!

The "learn more" bit is a good point. I see it on a lot of successful blog sites. I think it makes the user experience better as it allows you to present your site in a structured way. Better experience then means better conversion rates for whatever you're trying to achieve!

I should probably be doing the same thing as Eric with my site. What is silo and why is it a good strategy? Also wondering if it's better to have anchor text links or to use "Learn More" buttons? Not sure if that matters for SEO or if it's more just about what works well for the consumer? Thanks!

Hi Andy,
I think I understand what you mean. It is important to think about the website in the perspective of consumers. How they experience the site and what links are useful to them on what pages. This will include getting rid of broken links.
Search console account is something new for me. Will try and understand that too

Thanks Justen, this is my first time hearing about the SILO structure so that is really helpful!

Hi Eric,
There isn't a framework as such for internal linking but a silo structure would make the most sense as Justen has already said.
It is important to know what you want to do first of all though - don't just have a site with lots of blogs and randomly add links through to other internal pages. Understand what you want to do - use something like MindMup to help you visualise what you are trying to achieve.
You can check out your Search Console account to have a look at how your site is currently linked - Under Search Traffic, choose Internal Links.

Hi Eric,
What do you mean by seeing the current state? You could execute an audit using the OSE, or Screaming Frog to check if there's any weird redirect chains or 404's. As for structure i would recommend SILO structure. You could use this info for reference: http://webris.org/how-to-create-website-silos-for-seo/
I hope this is of any use to you.
Justen

Page must be internally linked to get indexed?
If a there is page like website.com/page; I think this page will be indexed by Google even we don't link it internally from anywhere. Is this true? Will it makes any difference in-terms of "indexability" if we list this page on sitemap? I know page's visibility will increase when link from multiple internal pages. I wonder will there be any noticeable difference while this page is listed in sitemap.

What is the best SEO tool to check internal linking structure
HI, Is there any tool to check how a website's internal linking structure has been linked. Some times few important pages may not linked very well and some links will be over linked. This will surge rankings...like if more links are pointing to one page? Is there any tool to check this?

Internal links from homepage and other pages
Hello, I'm curious what the difference is between internal links from the homepage and category pages. Make it sense to give some internal links from category pages (with a high PA) to an another page for a boost in the search results? Or is the link value too low in this case? Thanks in advance,

Linking to External Websites?
Is it good to link external websites from every page. Since, the on-page grader shows there should be one link pointing to an external source. I have a website that can point to an external website from every page using the brand name of the specific site like deal sites do have. Is it worth having external link on every page, of-course with a no-follow tag?

OSE link report showing links to 404 pages on my site
I did a link analysis on this site mormonwiki.com. And many of the pages shown to be linked to were pages like these http://www.mormonwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Planning_a_trip_to_Rome_By_using_Movie_theatre_-_Your_five_Fun_Shows2052752 There happens to be thousands of them and these pages actually no longer exist but the links to them obviously still do. I am planning to proceed by disavowing these links to the pages that don't exist. Does anyone see any reason to not do this, or that doing this would be unnecessary? Another issue is that Google is not really crawling this site, in WMT they are reporting to have not crawled a single URL on the site. Does anyone think the above issue would have something to do with this? And/or would you have any insight on how to remedy it?

Optimising My Website Link Containers
Hi, I'm looking at my links containers and trying to optimise them. I would be greatful if anyone can give me some feedback on my plan for perfect optimaisation. My links are constructed as follows: I have a two states:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | James77
1/. A Non Hover state which contains an Image and Text
2/. A Hover state which contains a bit more text - I do this as containing full text on the non hover state would not be good for users and would look ugly as well. Here's an example block of the HTML - as you can see from the URL, its quite a deep page level. From the URL and Alt / Titles the Page I am Linking to is about: "The Royal Hotel Accommodation New York Holidays". I Just a bit confused on how I should apply ALT and Title (Titles in particular) attributes given the nested DiV's etc - I can apply these to parent level, or apply all levels, or apply them to a mix. Also is there any obvious thinks you can think of I am missing that may help onsite SEO? Thanks in Advance CURRENT UNOPTIMISED CODE:
The Royal Hotel
New York Holidays Accommodation
The Royal Hotel
MY OPTIMISED CODE (Adding Title and Alt attributes):
The Royal Hotel
New York Holidays Accommodation
The Royal Hotel

Reciprocal link finder tool - not looking to do reciprocal links.
The company I work for had an old SEO company that did a lot of reciprocal links with websites that are not what we want to be associated with. Does anyone know of a tool that might be able to tell us if there are still reciprical links to our site? I want to try and find them, but the old pages we had with links going out have been deleted.
