Duplicate Content - Pricing Plan tables
-
Hey guys,
We're faced with a problem that we want to solve. We're working on the designs for a few pages for a drag & drop email builder we're currently working on, and we will be having the same pricing table on several pages (much like Moz does). We're worried that Google will take this as duplicate content and not be very fond of it.
Any ideas about how we could integrate the same flow without potentially harming ranking efforts?
And NO, re-writing the content for each table is not an option. It would do nothing but confuse the heck out of our clients.
Thanks everybody!

Hi Nigel,
Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

Hi Andy
Personally I wouldn't worry about this being considered duplicate content - there are plenty of sites I work with who present sizing and pricing tables on multiple pages and they don't fall in to any difficulty. It's true you cannot and shouldn't have to canonicalize part of a page, that is silly.
Concentrate on presenting the best experience for the user with keyword rich content and highly contextual writing about your products and services. Wax lyrical about what you do and why the customer should work with you and make the pages deep and interesting.
People get so worried about a possible 'duplicate content penalty' (which doesn't exist by the way - Google just chooses the best 'version') they forget what is the correct and best user experience.
Regards
Nigel

I wouldn't know of a way to apply canonical tags only on divs or a part of a page.
With iframe you can embed contents from other pages (external, internal) but thats an ugly old method...
I mean it depends also on the size/quantity of the duplicate content. If on a (big) unique page you have a couple of lines with duplicate content (prices, etc.) who cares? this is not going to do any harm.
The most theoretical and annoying solution to your problem and the one you don't want to hear would probably be to restructure the information so that there are no duplicate content issues. link to the price table instead of integrate them on different pages...

Hi Cesare,
It does help somewhat, but it's not the answer I've been looking for. Is there a way to only canonicalize part of a page (say a div tag)? Because the rest of the page would be 100% relevant.
Thanks!

Why don't you use CANONICAL tags/urls: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139066?hl=en to tell google that there is one version that is relevant and all others refer to that one as the main resource?
Hope this helps.

Potential duplicate content issue?
We have a category on our website for PVC rolls to buy as standard 50m rolls (this includes 15 products in the category). We're also releasing PVC rolls to buy per metre (10m roll/25m roll etc...), again with 15 products, which we are adding as a separate category as it makes more sense for our customers and removes the risk of having too many options. Would using the same description be bad practice for SEO? The product is exactly the same just available in different roll sizes, but we definitely do not want to combine categories as it doesn't work for our customers. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

How to explain to a client that duplicate content is bad...
Afternoon! An SEO client of ours has copied a load of landing/category page content from other sites. Lots of emails have been sent back and forth asking them to remove it, but they are adamant to keep it up there until we have time to amend it. We have explained to them: The Google penalty risks The copyright risks The short and long-term implications for their brand new business/website The money they are spending on our SEO package could be completely wasted if they're caught I think the above is pretty black and white, but the director of this company will not budge. Does anyone have any different approaches? The director said he's happy for us to amend the content but, in the meantime, the plagiarised content will not be removed. Cheers, Lewis

A Lot of Duplicate Meta Descriptions
Hi Everyone Its polesandblinds.com newbie here again, I've Just been in Webmaster tools and see my site has: 278 Duplicate Meta Descriptions 13 Long Meta Descriptions 4 Short Meta Descriptions 304 Duplicate Title Tags We are Using Magento version. 1.6.0.0, It seems that our description content which is unique per page (200 to 300 words) is somehow getting put into the meta description, which I confirmed when I viewed the source code, however its not showing in the meta description boxes in magento. I would say its been like this since the re-launch of the site in December 2012. example page http://www.polesandblinds.com/curtain-tracks/ view-source:http://www.polesandblinds.com/curtain-tracks/ My BIG worry is how Google views this and what effects it may have or had on a site. My site has taken quite a big hit on rankings since the Google updates. I'm really looking forward to your responses good or bad. Many Thanks Jonathan

Is my blog simply duplicate content of my authors' profiles?
www.example.com/blog is the full list of blog posts by various writers. The list contains the title of each article and the first paragraph from the article. In addition to /blog being indexed, each author's contribution list is being indexed separately. It's not a profile, really, just a list of articles in the same title & paragraph format of the /blog page. So if /blog a list of 10 articles written by two writers, I have three pages: /blog/author1 is a list of 4 articles /blog/author2 is a list of 6 different articles /blog is a list of 10 articles (the 4+6 from the two writers) Is this going to be considered duplicate content?

Is duplicate content harmful? Example from on my site
I'm not talking about content copied from another site but content unique to a site being used on several pages. I have a delivery tab that has precisely the same content as another product page. This content is on four product pages and the dedicated delivery page. Thanks

Duplicate Page Title
Wordpress Category pagination causes duplicate page title errors (ie. when there are so many posts in the category, it paginates them), is this a problem? Your tool is reporting it as a problem... but ProPhoto (my Wordpress provider say it is not a problem). Here are the 2 URL's with the same page title: http://www.lisagillphotography.co.uk/category/child-photography/ http://www.lisagillphotography.co.uk/category/child-photography/page/2/

Duplicate Links
Hello, I am entering sitewide navigation that will go to primary seo pages. This is really for usability, not for link juice. I'm wondering if I should still link to these very important pages in my index page's content. Or if I should consider those navigation links strong enough. If I did link in the content, then I would have more than one link to the same page on my home page. Thanks Tyler
