International SEO Options?
-
Hi we currently have a site which is a example.com domain in the Australian market (we have geo-targeted to Australia within search console).
We are looking to expand to United States.
I have added the potential options down below, just wondering which one you guys think would be best from a SEO and practical standpoint?
Or if there are other options i should consider?
Option 1
The Australian domain is strong so this option takes this into consideration.
Keep example.com (Australian)
Add on:
Sub-Directory for US
Which would be:
In Search Console set the sub-folder to target US and also setup hreflang tags. Setup the US site on the sub-directory.
Option 2
Add sub-folders for both Aus and US
example/au/ (Australian)
example/us/ (United States)Setup hreflang targeting.
Cons
Need to set up redirects for the current site to new location which is .com/au/ might also see drop in performance due to redirects.Cheers.

Hi there,
Our UK-based company was facing this problem a while ago and we decided for the first option. Originally we had .com + /uk +/us and what we decided to do now is: we are keeping .com (we changed /uk to .com - it became our global) and the /us remained the same. We have hreflang tags.
Basically, from the point of view of SEO, you might already have a strong site that will outperform the /au. Especially if you have a number of backlinks, you might drop in performance, you are right. The 301s won't help either.
To keep it simple, I would go with what you have - you have started your journey and you might be pretty established there. Have a look at how you can improve your existing site further and don't risk the drop. I would keep the .com - I am saying it from the point of view of a global company launching in the US that can't afford any mistakes.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

SEO Migration Options
Hi Guys, We have a www.sitename.com.au domain name and looking to move into the US market, and other markets in the future such as UK, Canada, etc. We are reviewing our options. Currently the .com.au is ccTLD to Australia so won't perform well in US. It seems the best option at this stage is to get a generic domain Generic top-level domains (gTLDs) like a .com. Then create different sub-folders for each country for example: .com our main country .com/us/ target us .com/uk/ Then in Google Search Console don't set country targeting for entire domain but use Hreflang Tags to specify the targeting for each page? -- This seems like a complex strategy to execute so i just want to check if this would be a optional option? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Cheers.

My company has a comprehensive set of historical images and text - hosted separately on a free museum site - it's currently displayed on our main site as an iframe. I realize the iframe brings no SEO juice to the site - but we are updating our site - and thinking of bringing the images and text to our site. I'm wondering if this could help or hurt us - the historical information is about "boat widgets" and we sell "car widgets" - could a lot of information about "boat widgets" dilute our "car widgets" seo ?

Is Snip.ly bad for SEO?
Hi, I'm using the software snip.ly, which allows me to add call to action into content I publish through social media. It's really powerful but I'm wondering how it can affect my SEO? Snip.ly now appears into my link report and its spam score is only 2, which is good. However I'm afraid that in the long term, it can be bad: links are created manually by the webmarketer Topics of this website are infinite the ancor is the same Your thoughts?..

SEO within the URL /
If I were optimizing for 'marketing success' and my URL structure was domain.com/marketing/success would that count? I'm not sure if the '/' affects the keyword term. My assumption is that it does, but I wasn't 100% sure. Thanks!

SEO friendly blog.
i've read somewhere that if you list too many links/articles on one page, google doesn't crawl all of them. In fact, Google will only crawl up to 100 links/articles or so. Is that true? If so, how do I go about creating a page or blog that will be SEO friendly and capable of being completely crawled by google?

Is IP trust a factor in SEO
Hi If my website is on an IP address that has a bad reputation with AOL for email, would Google use that as a factor in where they place us in SERPs? If so, what should I do? Matt
