Simple Open Site Explorer Question
-
Does domain and page authority as listed in the Open Site Explorer mean that that site is relevant (content subject wise) or is domain/page authority separate from relevance?
In other words, I'm less interested in getting an 81 domain authority link if it has nothing to do with my site's subject matter.
Could someone please explain? I haven't yet found the answer.
Thanks.

These 2 links are great resources. I'm actually going back over them.
Thanks again.

For item 4, anchor text, if you design URLs wisely you can get a decent link even if the site simply copy and pastes your link. The primary thing in that case is to avoid the "read more" and other anchor text.
Your questions are answered very thoroughly (and better then I possibly can) in these two links:

So what factors should I keep in mind when looking at links for link building for ecommerce:
-
DA/PA
-
Relevancy of content (whether the site has at least 1 section that is related in subject matter of my site)
-
Likelihood of being able to solicit a link
-
anchor text I could possibly get
-
If it's going to take adding content, how hard the content will be to make that will attract a link
Ryan, have I covered everything I should be thinking about here?
Thanks again, you are such a good resource.

I am not aware of any relevancy considerations within the OSE tool. I believe the tool merely acts based on the DA/PA of the page/site offering the link.

What are some good easy links to get for new sites?
We are in the process of launching a couple of new sites and while we know it will be a long process to get them to rank, achieving some long-tail keywords would be beneficial. What sites would you recommend for getting some easy links to start with that can help the indexation and ranking process along in the preliminary stages? Or another way to put the question - when you launch a new site, what steps do you go through?

Open link to a new window, +/-?
Basically I want to link from our main website to some of our PPC landing pages (to explain smaller elements of our offering). The reason for this is that the PPC pages are not exactly services but features that people might search for, so these pages are not navigable from the site (unless mentioned on another page). We do not want to include these pages as their own entity on the site, but people may want to click to see an explanation. So, my question is 2 fold: 1. Should I use an "open link in new window" link, what are the pros and cons of this. 2. Should the link description say that the link will open in a new window. i.e. [Feature name - opens in new window] What are your opinions on this? I know it may not have much, if any SEO benefit, but from a user point of view I feel it may offer some. Thanks in advance, Andy

Photography Site ranking!
Hi I am working on a photography site: www.daffodilwaves.co.uk now there isn't many pages nor is the that much text. However you will see that they have a blog (poorly designed one which we are addressing) Now blog posts I feel can be really good as there is generally alot of naturally written text which I don't feel I need to influence. Also generally people will comment so I also believe that is good for rankings too. However I find that the blog ranks higher than the actual website and I dont want that to occur the website is the one that generates the bookings. So can you give me some ideas to transfer the ranking from the blog to the website? I was thinking that within the article I could simply link back to the homepage - would you think that is a good idea? If so would you suggest I use particular anchor text? such as "Wedding Photographer" or "Comtemporary wedding Photographer" Thanks

Social Media Site that DoFollow
Hi everyone, I love this community and have a question: I recently read the textbook Art of SEO which was written by some of the creators of this community. In that book, there is a chapter on link building. Within that chapter, they discuss social media sites and how to leverage them. In that section, they refer to this article: http://www.searchenginepeople.com/blog/22-dofollow-social-media-sites-offering-profile-links.html. This article gives 22 social media sites that it says if you simply sign up, make a profile, and have your profile point to your web site, there will be a benefit because these sites profile sections DoFollow links. My question is: Is there a tool that can tell me whether or not these 22 sites still DoFollow links? Or at least if there profile section does pass link juice? Any advise is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Jeffrey Ferraro

Discrepancy in Site Metrics
I site I've been working on has been up since early January. The domain was not new, but no site or links existed prior. Link building finished 2 months ago. There are about 80 fairly high quality links mostly from unique domains, and the site has been doing well with search engines for some time. OSE lists only 24 of these domains (for all pages on the root domain). OSE stats hardly changed in the last update so here's my question: when will OSE data reflect the current reality?

Which Directory Sites to Choose?
Hi All I am a newbie to SEO and have a quick Q. Assuming that appropriate steps would be to; a) Ensure all onsite matters are are correct, title tags, meta descriptions, redirects, canonical issues. b) Submit to Directories c) Build Links I am approaching step b) Which Directories are worth submitting to? For those which require payment, how can I decide which are value for money or should I just use SEOMOZ list of links and assume that theyre worth the $50 - $100 if my higher ranking competitors have links from these directories. Also, can this be looked opon as grey/black hat 'buying of links'? Thank you Sean www.pretavoir.co.uk
