Pandora in Google Analytics
-
Hi Mozers, in Google Analytics our ads are registering a 10 second page duration and a 90% bounce rate, which is pretty atrocious. My questions are:
- Organic page duration is 3:15 minutes, and Social + Referral are similar. Yet Pandora is bringing the average time on site way down, to less than a minute. Will those paid ad metrics be factored to the User Behavior and therefore negative affect our overall rankings? In other words does Google now see our page duration as less than a minute?
- The Pandora rep says that Google Analytics and Pandora have "systemic issues" such that GA is very inaccurate with Pandora metrics. I find that difficult to believe. Any insights here?
Thanks all! Jane

Hi Jane,
No, you do not have to worry about those paid ad metrics impacting your organic results. As for the "systemic issues" - it appears that discrepancies between GA and Pandora has been going on for some time. Here is a QA post from 2012 about a similar issue between GA and Pandora: https://moz.com/community/q/pandora-advertising-discrepancy
I cannot speak to this issue first hand but thought this comment was worth noting:
"I had a call with a sales rep today and picked his brain for about an hour. His response to my questioning matched the original post on this thread. In a nutshell, "visits from inside the mobile Pandora app to an external website remain in the app and therefore do not pass the cookie that would trigger a visit." He said there was no solution to this problem and that whoever figures it out would be a billionaire. Um OK.
As the conversation continued, we started to discuss Pandora's advertising role, generally speaking. He kept trying to get me to focus on the impression, not the click. He explained that it was a bit of a misnomer to be considered digital advertising because really they are more in line with traditional radio advertising. The click is added benefit and really the advertiser is paying for the branding and precise geographic and demographic targeting. Unlike traditional radio, you can pick a specific county (even zip code depending on spend), age group, musical tastes and gender and serve the ad. This level of targeting is what you pay for, not the click. And according to the rep, "tracking the success of a Pandora campaign is not necessary (or possible)."
In a nutshell, there is no way to prove that those clicks actually took place. Pandora has no plans to build a robust backend reporting system that would provide advertisers with true data on the performance of the ads."

Google Analytics - Referral traffic being reported as Direct traffic
Hi, I have a link on my www homepage to another subdomain website. Both websites are served on https, and have independent Google Analytics properties. However, the traffic from the www site to the subdomain site is being reported as Direct, and not Referral traffic. Any ideas why? See image provided for context... RCn6HER

How can we stop Google analytics pulling in data from another site?
We have a few accounts under one Google login. They all have separate Google analytics codes but one of the sites is somehow pulling in some data from another site but the other site has not got the same analytics code on it. Not sure how this is happening and what we can do about this, is it a bug in the Google Analytics system? Any help would be appreciated.

Universal Analytics & Google Tag Manager - Track URLs that include hashes
Does anyone have any experience tracking URLs that include hashes (#) using Universal Analytics and Google Tag Manager? Can it be done using GTM's container for UA, using the "more settings" options? Or building another tag to work with the GTM UA container? The fallback I'm considering is implementing the UA code in GTM for every page as Custom HTML with the "ga('send', 'pageview', location.pathname + location.search + location.hash);" solution, rather than GTM's specialized UA tag. I'm not yet sure what problems may arise from that, if any. Thanks in advance.

Google Analytics Custom Reports eMails only one reporting tab
Goog Morning from 18 degrees C mostly cloudy Wetherby UIK 🙂 I'm on a mission to get away from manual reporting and move over to eMailing custom Google analytics reports. Thanks to this tutorail http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2175001/7-Time-Saving-Google-Analytics-Custom-Reports Ive made good progress but ive hit a snag. The snag being when i email the report the recipient only recieves one 1 report tab of data. This causes a problem when you eMail a report that has multiple reporting tabs like this: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/tab-export-custom-problemcopy.jpg So my question is please..."When you eMail a recipient a custom report how can you ensure they receive "All" the reporting tabs data and not just one"? Any insights welcome 🙂

Can you get local search numbers/traffic out of Google Analytics?
With Google's new local search I am more curious as to market penetration on keywords that are now localized to my different US cities. I understand that you can separate out Google traffic based on regional Google domains, but I am curious if there is an effective way to separate out searches and keywords based on a my local US Metros? If google cannot do this, any recommendations on products that can? Thanks.
