CMS Preferences: Drupal or Joomla!?
-
I already have some experience with WordPress, but for a new site I want to use a different CMS. Anyone care to weigh-in on the pros and cons of Drupal or Joomla!?
Thanks,
Joe

Thanks for the response, Ryan. I'm leaning towards Joomla! as they seem to have more options for each feature and a more supportive community, which I will certainly need.

I just recently was faced with this exact decision. At first I decided to go with Drupal because I considered both CMS' to be equivalent. I installed Drupal and then had some very basic questions which I posted on the forums and did not receive any answers.
My next issue was related to the CCK features I required. I needed to create a basic form to allow users to enter data (company names and info) then for that info to be used to offer a formatted page using that information. I was told the only Drupal CCK solution would not work to meet my needs. I found that hard to believe but others confirmed the statement, and another person with the same issue had their forum request for help go unanswered for months.
I tried installing Joomla and have been very happy so far. They just released the latest version, 1.7 about a week ago. They have 4 CCK add-on solutions, and they seem to be working in various needed features into the core so extensions are less necessary. If you decide to go with Joomla I found an excellent template designer which I would recommend. Otherwise I am still getting up to speed with the software myself so I can't really comment further.

Drupal Domain Access SEO Issues
I'm working with a new developer to redesign several Drupal sites and have 3-4 sites with similar designs and modules. The developer is keen on using Drupal Domain Access to make maintenance and sharing user information easier. Each site currently has a unique domain and content (although the sites are in related niches). Are there issues from an SEO perspective with the Drupal Domain Access Module? With only one instance of Drupal on the backend will Google somehow not view these as independent sites? Thanks for any info!

Wordpress or Joomla?
I'm very interested on what users here use and why? From my experience regarding online SEO, both CMSs are equal. However, the ease of use is a different story. While both systems have a learning curve, wordpress is the easiest to learn thus making it probably the most popular CMS today. Joomla on the other hand takes a bit more time to understand but when learned, can be quite flexible. So if anyone here is kind enough to add their thoughts, I'm all ears!

Unable to set preferred domain, can I verify a site that's already redirected?
I'm in the process of trying to set a preferred domain in webmaster tools -- to set our www version as preferred vs. the non www. version. IT is already redirecting non-www to www, but I get this message when trying to change settings "Part of the process of setting a preferred domain is to verify that you own http://mnn.com/. Please verify http://mnn.com/." While we own the domain, I am not sure how we can have Google access a file at [http://mnn.com/some_file when we are forwarding all requests for non-www to our www site.

Moving Existing Website to CMS
I had zero experience with design, seo, etc..prior to joining seomoz last year, but have been tweaking my site to get better ranking and leads. I'm at the point now where I have to move my existing 8 year old static html website (lifeinsuranceadvisors.com) to a CMS system but am concerned about the impact this will have on my rankings, and money I currently make from my site selling the leads i generate. I generate leads for life insurance industry, have 150+/- existing pages, and it takes me forever to add new pages, make changes, not to mention the look is worn. What is the best way to make this move? Secondly, what SEO friendly CMS systems do you recommend? Thanks Mike Horbal Thank you all for the quick response and great info...I'm going to put my wishlist together before i make a move..thanks again.

What is the best SEO friendly CMS platform?
Would like to build some content sites and would appreciate some guidance on what you believe to be the most SEO friendly CMS platform. I'm also hoping to find something that doesn't require much HTML and is pretty easy to jump into.

Simple Joomla cart suggestion
I have a client with an online store which currently offers two products and is hosted on a shared server. As a result of my SEO evaluation his site will be redesigned in Joomla. Does anyone have experience with or a suggestion for a simple, light cart that would be open to standard SEO changes and work in this situation? The cart should accept both Google checkout, Paypal and support international customers from Europe, US and Canada.

Finally have a budget for a great seo ecommerce site but need help choosing wordpress, joomla, modx, magneto or? Thank you in advance for your generosity of time
We finally have a budget and want to dump our intuit/homestead site www.originalartbroker.com Our budget is 5k-10k but could do more if needed. I am slowly catching my competition with this homestead site that I built. But I do realize it is time to step back, figure out what is best, and hire a pro to get the job done. I am green in the seo and web development arena so please go easy on me and please help to point me in the right direction. Just went out on a limb a couple years ago playing with homestead.com site software and built what we have today. Didn't know anything about website development...it sort of just happened. I feel and know that homestead.com solution is hindering what we could be doing due to the bloated nature of the site and inability to perform such task as 301 redirects etc.... I have been able to slowly attain first page seo rankings on keywords based of the artists we carry using this po-dunk homestead platform to build my site after a ton of work education thanks to seomoz and a lot of you. But, have never asked for help and could really use some generosity of time in explaining a solution that would work best for our business. Do we just go with a wordpress site that is similar to our current setup and use their plugins? Do we use a cms software solution like magneto or joomla? We will only have 200-300 pieces at any given time. We are constantly selling and buying new pieces providing us content. We are need of a site that can perform well in terms of seo. I have heard of a lot of people talking about joomla, wordpress, and magneto. Would like to be able to have a product catalogue that ultimately sends whatever inventory we are uploading to our social sites and blogs so I don’t have to pump the product out to all of these sites. We offer free custom framing with our pieces and it would be nice to have a program that could wrap the photos of the pieces with the different frames for our customers. When I add a new piece I would like this software to have a predesigned product page that it plugs the information into. I would like it to create the url extension based of the artists name, medium used, and piece name to create unique and individual urls. I would like it to also create its own H tags throughout that product page according to the artist name description, and medium used. I would like to be able to sink this up to google merchant and other sites to carry our product. Bottom line is we sell art. We sell pieces by specific artists. We are constantly buying and selling. I need something powerful that keeps up with our content
