Does Organic CTR from Keyword Explorer show percentage of 1st position clicks? If not, how to calculate?
-
I have two questions about the Organic CTR number from the Moz Keyword Explorer tool. I have read through the description here, but it is not very clear on what I need to know: https://moz.com/community/q/what-is-a-good-keyword-opportunity-score
- Does it calculate the percent of searchers that are likely to click on ANY of links from page one of the traditional organic search results? Or does it calculate the percent of searchers that are likely to click on the NUMBER 1 position of the traditional organic search results?
I suspect the answer will be that it calculates the percentage of clicks for any of the traditional organic search results from page one. Which leads me to question two...
- I'm trying to calculate the estimated search traffic from each keyword if there was a number 1 ranking. And if the Organic CTR shows the percentage of clicks going to any of the traditional organic search results I need to add a modifier to my formula which will calculate how many clicks the number 1 ranking receives. So I think the formula would will look something like this: Monthly website traffic from keyword = monthly search traffic * Organic CTR * Number 1 Position CTR. In this case, what would I use for the "Number 1 Position CTR" modifier?

Hi Meghan,
Thanks for replying during the holiday period, I didn't expect a response until after christmas!
Sorry to be nit picky, I really appreciate your help, but I'm still not clear on what exactly is calculated or how to solve my problem. Your answer could get interpreted in a few ways so for the sake of clarity (and to satisfy my OCD haha) could you please tell me which statement below is correct... statement 1 or statement 2:
Statement 1: Organic CTR gives a relative click-through-rate for ALL the organic search results on the page.
Statement 2: Organic CTR gives a relative click-through-rate for the #1 position on the search results page. Also your link regarding landing pages and estimated traffic looks great (https://moz.com/help/guides/moz-pro-overview/rankings/landing-pages) but since I do not already rank for these keywords it won't provide me with the data I need. I need to know the estimate search traffic before I start targeting keywords, not after I rank for them.
So I still need to know what is the CTR for a number 1 position compared to the other organic search results. Do you know what I should be using for this number? Research tell me it can be anything from 40% to 20%... but I am yet to find a definitive answer to this.
Again, thanks for your help!
Thanks,

Hi there!
Thanks so much for the great question!
Organic CTR calculates the relative click-through-rate for organic search results in any given Search Engine Results Page. This means that SERPS with fewer non-traditional features (like images and ads, etc) will have higher organic CTRs. We use anonymized clickstream data to build this particular metric and apply it to what we see in Google SERPs. We have a great page in our help hub that further outlines the Keyword Explorer metrics: https://moz.com/help/guides/keyword-explorer/keyword-metrics and you may also find this page useful: https://moz.com/help/guides/moz-pro-overview/rankings/landing-pages
I hope this helps! If you have follow up questions, please feel free to email us at help@moz.com!

I added a privacy policy link to my footer and now Moz is showing thousands of 4xx errors
My website didn't have a privacy policy so I added one and put the link in the footer menu. When I did this, Moz came back telling me that there are a lot of new errors on the site. Is this a bad thing? Do I need to address it? HY59Iks sYyAHCB

Problem with Keyword Explorer?
Is anyone else having an issue Keyword Explorer? I'm added keywords to lists but there are a couple of problems: The metrics are taking a long time to come through. I.e: at least 10-15 minutes When I try to export my keyword list a completely different keyword export appears When I try to refresh the explorer, my keywords are removed from the list and replaced some keywords/phrases that are completely unrelated Any insight would be appreciated 🙂

What does it mean when Moz KW explorer returns a negative keyword difficulty score (eg -2)?
I recently did a keyowrd difficulty lookup in Moz keyword explorer as usual and for the first time a saw several (out of 100s) of negative keyowrd scores (generally -2). Is this a bug, what does it mean?

National or local tracking of keywords
I manage an account with +20 locations and have used the default National tracking on keywords, but realized that we might see higher rankings if I choose local tracking. If any of you have any experience in this, please tell the world!

How does the grader tool treat keyword "stuffing" in ecommerce
We recently started using Moz on our ecommmerce site because I'm concerned that our SEO company doesn't really know what they are doing and I want to see what I can do on my own with the little bit of knowledge I have. It's helping in a number of ways but here's a big question mark: The Grader Tool keeps telling us that our product category pages have too many keywords on them. We are only using them in the content once or twice, but the sub-category buttons on the page show the category + sub repeated. Could this be what's causing it? Does Google distinguish this for ecommerce? We've taken a huge hit in rankings for key phrases and keywords over the past six months and I'm wondering if this is part of it?

Keyword Grader & OmniExplorer_Bot Question
I found this in several of my clients Robots.txt "User-Agent: OmniExplorer_Bot Disallow: /" Right now I cannot grade any of them that are on a particular platform that has that written in. Would this block the keyword grader? Thanks!

On the on page optimization page, I found out that there are 2 contributing factors which are opposite to each other. "No More Than One H1 Tag" and "Appropriate Keyword Usage in H1 Tag"
"No More Than One H1 Tag" and "Appropriate Keyword Usage in H1 Tag" If you fulfill one condition, the other one is not completed. If you consider Article heading as H1 then Moz do not detect keyword in the heading.

Open Site Explorer Problems
I've been checking open site explorer for months now. It doesn't show any changes in the number of root domain links to any of my pages, even though webmaster tools shows a substantial increase in root domain links for each of these urls. Open Site Explorer doesn't seem to be updating. According to Moz, my site is regularly indexed by Moz. But the numbers don't change. I've tested this on a few other sites as well with the same results. How do I get OSE to update the numbers for a particular website?
