How to optimize Wordpress.org hosted blogs

I've got a blog I'm working on that isn't self-hosted. I've attached a screenshot of the message I get if I try to install any plugins. I really want to block archive, author, tag, category, etc pages but I can't seem to find a way since there's no server for me to block via robots.txt or .htaccess and I can't actually install these plugins which would give me the ability to do it.
Any suggestions?

As Red mentions, you're actually hosted on WordPress.com, not .org (which is the self-hosted version of WP)
To resolve the specific error you're asking about...
It's telling you that to be able to use the custom code features that are available, the settings for your domain name at your registrar should be pointing to the nameservers at WordPress.com, not the nameservers you're currently using (likely the registrar's own nameservers).

Hey there Shawn,
Your screenshot mentions WordPress.com, which is a lot different than WordPress.org. The one you're using, .com, is more of a service for folks who don't want to deal with technical setup, just want to have a few options and start blogging. The one you mentioned, .org, is more of a hands-on deal where you purchase web hosting (server space) and install it on that server. That is where you're able to use .htaccess, robots.txt, etc., etc. You are also able to use a lot more themes and plugins and get into true custom coding with .org. You can do some of this kind of customization on .com if you pay for a premium package, and there are such things as virtual robots.txt files which some of their plugins might be able to generate for you, but I do not think you ever get to adjust server files like .htaccess. So you might want to look into trying out WordPress.org instead. If you're really looking to customize the site and have granular control over anything SEO-related or even functionalitywise, .org is the way to go.

Is this a Risky Blog Move?
I have a client who's thinking of placing their blog on a separate domain because the plug-ins and various other functionality is becoming bulky and slowing things down for the main site. There will be a 'Blog' link on the company's website navigation, just as there is now, that will take people to the blog. As an SEO person, this seems like a bad idea, even if we set up 301s from all the old posts to all the new ones. In my research I came across these two points: All backlinks to blog posts contribute directly to a website’s OVERALL SEO strength because those backlinks are pointing to your main domain. Removing them may reduce overall link juice to the site. Simply having fewer content pages on the site will cause entire site to rank lower because Google loves content-rich authority sites. Does anyone know this to be true for sure? Thanks,

Link in my blog to external pages - no follow?
Hi everyone. I'm quite new to SEO (started 6 months ago, but I'm very lucky to work the company that is willing to pay while I'm learning). I also create some content for the website - I write wood flooring industry blog. Following some advise from few SEO experts around the world whom I follow I have decided to write 1-2 off topic blogs/month but I have found the way of writing off topic but in reality bringing together wood flooring industry and let's say fashion industry. My question is - if I want to link to one or two pages (let's say bug fashion brands) shall I use no-follow link? I do not want to harm my website or theirs. In the interests of making my site faster I have recently come across the suggestion of removing unwanted PHP from my WooThemes WordPress theme. The suggestion is to hard code the choices I have made in the WordPress template to reduce on database calls. Syndicating With Blogs
Hey all, The idea is that whenever i post a new article on my blog on my "money site" would it be OK to syndicate the same article to all of my other blogs like wordpress, tumblr etc? So for example the exact same content that is on my website will be on myblog.wordpress.com and myblog.tumblr.com but with a URL at the bottom pointing to the original source. (the money site article URL) Are there any foreseeable problems with this? The objective being having the content distributed across the web as much as possible I apologise if this has been asked before, i could not find the answer. Regards Greg
