Critical crawler errors...4xx
-
Hey fam,
I ran the Critical Crawler Issues and found 9 pages with critical crawler issues. I'm running a wordpress site and looked in the dashboard for Pages and Posts but the links aren't in the dashboard.
Can you help fix? Thank you!

If the crawler is returning 404 errors, it's because it can't find those pages when following links. Since those pages don't exist, you won't find them in your WP dashboard either, Myflgreen.
The next step is to determine if they should exist (i.e they've been deleted accidentally), in which case you need to rebuild them.
If in fact they don't exist on purpose, you then need to look at the pages that contain the links to the non-existent pages and fix those pages so they don't contain the broken link in their content. (You can find the linking pages by downloading the 404 error report.)
You'll also want to consider adding a redirect from the non-existent pages to another page on the site that provides essentially the same info, if such a page exists. (This is in case other websites might have been linking to those pages at some point)
Final note - sometimes, these links show up as 404s because the link itself is written slightly incorrectly - double check for that too, if the link seems to be pointing to a real page but is 404ing.
Hope that helps?
Paul

Quest about 404 Errors
About two months ago, we deleted some unnecessary pages on our website that were no longer relevant. However, MOZ is still saying that these deleted pages are returning 404 errors when a crawl test is done. The page is no longer there, at least that I can see. What is the best solution for this? I have a page that similar to the older page, so is it a good choice to just redirect the bad page to my good page? If so, what's the best way to do this. I found some useful information searching but none of it truly pertained to me. I went around my site to make sure there were no old links that directed traffic to the non existent page, and there are none.

Why is Google Webmaster Tools showing 404 Page Not Found Errors for web pages that don't have anything to do with my site?
I am currently working on a small site with approx 50 web pages. In the crawl error section in WMT Google has highlighted over 10,000 page not found errors for pages that have nothing to do with my site. Anyone come across this before?

Webmaster Crawl errors caused by Joomla menu structure.
Webmaster Tools is reporting crawl errors for pages that do not exist due to how my Joomla menu system works. Example, I have a menu item named "Service Area" that stores 3 sub items but no actual page for Service Area. This results in a URL like domainDOTcom/service-area/service-page.html Because the Service Area menu item is constructed in a way that shows the bot it is a link, I am getting a 404 error saying it can't find domainDOTcom/service-area/ (The link is to "javasript:;") Note, the error doesn't say domainDOTcom/service-area/javascript:; it just says /service-area/ What is the best way to handle this? Can I do something in robots.txt to tell the bot that this /service-area/ should be ignored but any page after /service-area/ is good to go? Should I just mark them as fixed as it's really not a 404 a human will encounter or is it best to somehow explain this to the bot? I was advised on google forums to try this, but I'm nervous about it. Disallow: /service-area/*

Allow: /service-area/summerlin-pool-service.
Allow: /service-area/north-las-vegas
Allow: /service-area/centennial-hills-pool-service I tried a 301 redirect of /service-area to home page but then it pulls that out of the url and my landing pages become 404's. http://www.lvpoolcleaners.com/ Thanks for any advice! Derrick0 -
GWT Error for RSS Feed
Hello there! I have a new RSS feed that I submitted to GWT. The feed validates no problemo on http://validator.w3.org/feed/ and also when I test the feed in GWT it comes back aok, finds all the content with "No errors found". I recently got a issue with GWT not being able to read the rss feed, error on line 697 "We were unable to read your Sitemap. It may contain an entry we are unable to recognize. Please validate your Sitemap before resubmitting." I am assuming this is an intermittent issue, possibly we had a server issue on the site last night etc. I am checking with my developer this morning. Wanted to see if anyone else had this issue, if it resolved itself, etc. Thanks!
