Can anyone confirm they have predictable rating shifts based on the day of the week?
-
Hey all,
The site in question is https://amygalbraith.com
The keyword I am trying to rank for (among others) is 'Seattle Wedding Photographer'.
I have seen a truly strange pattern emerge. Each Monday in the past two weeks, this site has been ranked in the top 20, usually around 11-14. Come Tuesday, it will drop completely out of the top 50, usually around page 7-8. Does anyone know of anything that might account for that kind of erratic shift in placement? We aren't making any changes to the site: no a/b testing or anything is occurring at the moment. I'm baffled.
It could be a fluke. You can bet I will be trying to get screenshots this coming Monday.

Hi Amy,
Does the ranking shift coincide in some way with your hours of operation on affected days vs. the hours of operation of your competitors?
-
Less than 24 hours later the site is back on page 8. We have not changed anything. I don't understand.

More info.
Perhaps it's not based specifically on the day of the week. I just checked today and sure enough, this site is on page 2.
Is a 5-6 page swing in ranking a fairly normal thing?

Can an external firewall affect rankings?
For security reasons we are now routing traffic through an external firewall cum CDN. Our server and domain IPs remain the same, but any request is routed through an external IP, which then forwards the traffic. Would our rankings be affected because of IP changes? Thanks Sam

Amazing results even after 1 week!
Have to say, I'm pretty impressed with Moz, this is now my first full week of membership and wow have I seen some great increases in my site stats! Hopefully this isn't just a blip and that it wil continue for weeks and months to come. Authority has jumped from 27 to 34 Google page one results jumped from 7 to 13 Trafffic increased by 12% Solved duplicate content issues Started a proactive social media campaign I could go on and on, but can't say enough positive things about the services that are provided here, an investment well worth paying and already paying for itself. The goal for the next few weeks is to improve domain authority from 34 to 40+, I've been using long tail phrases for my articles, which has been tremendously beneficial. One query is that even though the domain authority has moved from 27 - 34, I don't appear to have gained any extra backlinks - perhaps I'm misunderstand this metric? The other query is that there are 100's of backlinks pointing to my domain (I provide an open source cms so I know the links are there), but none of these lnks appear to be counting towards my authority. Is there a way I can submit these pages to the index on their behalf? Cheers, Lee

Merging domains was probably a mistake. Can it be undone?
Hello good people, Website A was doing great in terms of traffic and ranking.
Technical SEO | | jansievers
Website B had seen a steady decline in traffic and visibility for several years, most likely due to thin content issues. Website B was merged into website A. Content was redirected on a per page basis with a rewrite rule that takes domain name and the change in URL structure into account. After merging the two websites, traffic and rankings of Website A started dropping. What would be the best course of action here? Weed out thin content and stick with the merger? Removing all of Website B's content and the redirects to Website A? ?? Thanks! Jan 1pYROKn1 -

My client has lost his URL - is there anything he can do to salvage SEO?
My new client has had his URL for 8 years and built up good SEO, visitors and links. He has now lost it and the cost of getting it back is prohibitive. Apart from contacting all the places he is currently getting links from, is there anything he can do to salvage SEO and site visitors? Is there anyway he can get 301s done if he no longer owns the URL? If he starts again with a new URL, and loads all the new content on it, will submitting a site map help Google understand its not duplicate and all the content is just at a new URL? He is hoping that contacting Google and explaining will help them "look kindly", but I have never heard anything like this happening! Any ideas? Many thanks

Can double content be a reason to not have PR?
In a bigger project are several domains that show the same content like the main-site (there is a reason to have it like that). Now those "double-content domains" are indexed and ranking in Google. But now I see that all those double-content domains have no pagerank visible, despite they do all have their unique own backlinks. Do you know why those domains don't show Pagerank? Can it really have something to do with the double-content situation?
