There's a really easy way to find out. Type e-gig into google and then if the results have ecig in bold in the meta descriptions then google considers it to be the same word.
This is HUGE for my niche which is dentistry. I recently made an article about dental crowns and wondered should I call them dental 'caps' because it says in another of the tools I use that more people search for dental 'caps' than dental 'crowns'. In fact they are slightly different things but lo and behold, google sees them as the same thing because there's caps in bold when I type crowns and crowns in bold when I type caps.
Rankbrain is getting smarter and smarter and Gary from google I think released a video about punctuation and compound words. So 'six year old', 'six-year-old' and '6 year-old' and '6-year old' are good ones to test it out on. You can see what google thinks are the same. Likewise using TM and R after words doesn't matter.
So if you write an article for E-cig and then another for Ecig they are going to cannibalise or internally compete with one another. I had the same problem with '6 month smiles' and 'six month smiles'. The best solution is to use the words interchangeably and write at the level of your audience and write NATURALLY. Google is getting really smart and you need to forget the semantics and get down to writing detailed and really readable content that people want to spend time reading.
There are some great tools like 'Answer the public' and 'LSI graph' that can also help you find other words people are using. they scrape from google so all the results are just what rankbrain and google is thinking right now.

I would look at the research before I do anything. Try looking them both up on Google and comparing what you get. For example, when I look up "e cig" vs. "e-cig", I get different results. Some of them are the same, but I also see unique sites in one against the other.
The search volume is where you should focus as well. Make sure that both receive significant search volume that is worth your time. If nobody is searching one variation, there is no point in optimizing for it. Best of luck to you mate!

I usually find the best way to check is by Googling them both and comparing the results.
Hyphens and special characters often confuse tools that show volume, so they're shown as different entities but in practice Google usually knows that the two variations mean the same thing and so usually turn up the same results.

"redirects" with no "redirect address"?
Episode 2 of "Damon the idiot noob" web series . . . I have like . . ..90 plus temporary redirects in my moz "medium priority diagnostics". But the majority of them have a url, but no redicret url. How can it be a temporary redirect if there is no redirect address? Some of the addresses simply don't make any sense. Like: http://www.thirdcoastsigns.com/catalog/seo_sitemap/product How on earth would a "seo_sitemap" be followed my a "/product"? This is a Magento site, so I know some of these things get created automatically . .. but what on earth is going on here? Help welcome, appreciated, and welcome. Did I mention it is welcome and appreciated?

Exact Keyword is Used in Page Title & Exact Keyword Used in Document Text at Least Once
Hi Folks, I have a page https://purplegriffon.com/courses/itil-training/itil-foundation-training/itil-foundation that grades with the 'On-Page Grader' as a B grade for the keyword 'itil foundation' but reports that there is no 'Exact Keyword is Used in Page Title' and 'Exact Keyword Used in Document Text at Least Once'. The thing is, it actually is but because of IP (intellectual property) rights we have to include a '®' (®) symbol when we mention the course title 'ITIL® Foundation'. Now I believe Google is smart enough to recognise that this symbol should not be included but it seems that for the specific criteria mentioned above, the MOZ bot isn't smart enough to recognise this, even though it recognises the keyword usage elsewhere. So my question is this. Would this constitute an issue in terms of ranking? Another question I have, is how significant are the gains with shorter URL's? For example, the URL to the page in question is: https://purplegriffon.com/courses/itil-training/itil-foundation-training/itil-foundation Would a URL such as below have a significant effect on SEO?: https://purplegriffon.com/courses/itil-foundation Thanks for your feedback.

My home page has an "A" rank in Moz and not ranking in Google.
My home page recently dropped from page one in Google to not being ranked for my top keyword. The page has an "A" ranking in MOZ for the keyword. Is there a way to find out the cause. I did have what looked like a duplicate page for a while 3 months ago when a domain was forwarding to my home page incorrectly. Appeared with second domain name instead of primary. Our business has been 95% through internet leads so quite an issue. Is there anyway to find out what is going on.

Why does the Keyword Difficulty Tool shows no Search Volume?
I've run a full report in many keywords on the Keyword Difficulty Tool, but in the Search Volume field all of them have the message "not enough data". Screenshot attached. Why is that? I have keywords like "magnesium" that popular and have quite some traffic. Any help is appreciated, thanks! semoz-keywords-analytics.jpg

Can Google see all the pages that an seomoz crawl picks up?
Hi there My client's site is showing around 90 pages indexed in Google. The seomoz crawl is returning 1934 pages. Many of the pages in the crawl are duplicates, but there are also pages which are behind the user login. Is it theoretically correct to say that if a seomoz crawl finds all the pages, then Google has the potential to as well, even if they choose not to index? Or would Google not see the pages behind the login? And how come seomoz can see the pages? Many thanks in anticipation! Wendy
