Please Help! Crawl & Site Errors - Will This Impact My SEO?
-
Hello Moz,
I need urgent help. I remove a tonne of product pages and put everything into one product page to deal with duplicate content. I thought this was a good thing to do until I got an email from Google saying:
"Googlebot identified a significant increase in the number of URLs on ****.com that return a 404 (not found) error. "
I checked it out and found the problem:
4 Soft 404's
41 Not Found'sWhat do I need to do to fix this? Is it a problem or should I just ignore? I removed all the pages on WordPress but I need to do it somehow manually through Google?
I have worked so hard on my SERP's that this will destroy me if I'm penalised. Please can someone advise?

First of all - don't stress out! You won't be penalized for broken links. Google penalizes for shady behavior, not honest mistakes.
Like Andrew said, make sure that you aren't linking to any of the pages you removed from your site, and that you've removed them from your XML sitemap.
Then you should be good!
Good luck,
Kristina

Don't stress everything is OK.
When google indexes your site it makes its own URL list. 404s in search console are just google saying 'hey I checked for this page from my list and it's gone'
Well that's fine. You deleted it so you already know it's gone. Google will keep checling for this page a few more times then it will deindex it. It just doesn't want to deindex without fair warning.
If these pages are still getting traffic however I would 301 them to a relevant page to maintain user experience.
Finally, if these pages targeted keywords you want to rank for. You will loose these rankings if you don't target them elsewhere.

I do yes but I must know how to deal with Google now as I am so stressed!
I thought deleting the pages would be fine? I don't understand what further I must do? Once you delete a page must you tell Google you have done so?
I only got the email yesterday so I assume I have sometime left to fix?

Do you have a decent 404 page? Does this facilitate further browsing.
Internal links that 404 will leak page rank. So you need to fix any internal 404s. Google says 404s in search console are not damaging but many people including myself see traffic bumps from resolving these with a 301.
Have you seen any drop in traffic or rankings.

Hello,

I have a query animation 'fade-in-up' on my website: tiffanybarnard.com which moves the H1 tag slightly and fades it in from zero opacity to 1. Will this affect the SEO value of the H1 tag?

GWT Fetch & Render displays desktop version of site as mobile
Hi team, I noticed that when I request a desktop rendering in GWT using fetch and render, pages render as the mobile version. Screenshot attached. It's related to the VHS units in our CSS (as far as I'm aware). Does anyone know what the implications of this may be? Does it mean googlebot can only see the mobile version of our website? Any help is appreciated. Jake jgScJ

Search Console has found over 18k 404 errors in my site, should I redirect?
most of them where old URLs pointed from a really old domain, that we have just shutten down. If the pages didn't receive any traffic, should we redirect? If I follow this https://moz.com/learn/seo/http-status-codes we shouldn't

Can increase in crawl errors in GWT) be caused by input fields and jquery?
Dear Mozzerz We took over www.urgiganten.dk not long ago and last week we opened up for indexation, after having taken the old website down for a couple of months. One week after opening for indexation we saw a huge increase in crawl errors.Google is discovering some weird links to e.g http://www.urgiganten.dk/30-garmin-urremme/ which returns a 404. In GWT we are told that we are linking to this url from http://www.urgiganten.dk/garmin-urremme. But nowhere on http://www.urgiganten.dk/garmin-urremme will you find this link. However you will find the following script in the source code, which is the only code part that contains "/30-garmin-urremme/":Can it be true that google take the id and adds it to our tld to form a url? We have seen quite a lot of these errors not only on Urgiganten.dk but also some of our other websites!

SEO impact of an iframed blog is very low ? Right or wrong ?
We're thinking about adding a blog to our site, but our CMS blogging features are not good. Someone suggested using a wordpress blog and putting it in an iframe on our site. I replied that all the SEO impact of our blogging efforts will be lost because of the iframe. I am right or wrong ? If I am right, could you suggest better alternatives ? Thanks in advance ! 302 error removing site from results
I have a client who had a screwy url structure based off of parameters and all. They hired a developer that added the keyword to the end of the url and set up 302 redirects to the new keyword included url. Since then the entire site has virtually gone missing in the results but it is not penalized. I put in a request with webmaster tools for reconsideration and they said there was no penalty. I only just found the 302 problem today and think this is probably the problem. Could this remove a site from the search results?
