New link explorer

I was checking this new tool which is really cool by the way and was wondering if I can outrank big guys with just content.
I have a Domain authority of 28 with a spam score of 28 %
Can I outrank with amazing content a site that hase a domain authority of 50 and a spam score of 1 % ?
Should I ask for all my bad links to be removed so that my spam score goes down or doesn't it matter anymore those days and what matters is good content, link just don't count anymore ?
Thank you,
-
Roman is spot on. Links are still a big part of the game, but there are specific instances where you can rank with just content. Local SEO is a prime example. I only ever bother with citations for local SEO because I consistently rank just by focusing on content, technical/on-page SEO, and citations.
For my clients with a national presence, outreach is necessary. Think healthcare and finance - smaller guys are competing with massive banks who have a ton of authority and history. Content won't win in that space alone (I wish it did). There are some real easy outreach wins early on, but once you've used up the easy stuff (like getting into directories or fixing broken backlinks) then you have to do a content inventory, find your best stuff, and promote it.
OR
You have to create amazing content, then promote that and earn some backlinks. Like Roman says, the term "great content" is overused and oversold. Most people who show me their great content are often showing off mediocre content.Best of luck!

Thank you Roman, I will work on that.
-
First, you need to define what is amazing content, I hear that term all over the web, but usually, no one has a real idea of what it is or how to do it.

Of course, you can rank just with content but keep in mind that the most important factors on SEO this days are Links and Content, and until I know Google does not reveal until today how they evaluate the content. And if you want to rank just with content this day you will need 2 things
- Wait and let Google Rank your site (get the first place on SERP is a little bit utopic)
- Promote your content (Mostly with outreach)
Thing is if you have
- _Outstanding conten_t,
- Great schemas,
- AMP
- Good Site and Link structure
Your content will have a better chance to rank in less time in an organic way, but keep in mind that links still have the power to boost your site (real links, with content related to your topic, on the body). Footer links, directory links, can penalize your site but real links still are the best way to rank your site.....why? well, it's really simple, at the end of the day Google is just a script who follow links, so no links no game.
Why content matters? because if you have the links, and schemas, and AMP, performance and a good site structure, with no useful content, you can get the top and then lose all your ranking... really simple
-
So according to you amazing content won't work to get to the top ?
-
If you want to rank just with content and DA 28, well you need to focus on other SEO aspects
- Almost perfect site structure (recommended tool in my opinion Dynomapper)
- Almost perfect schemas (focus on schemas supported by Google)
- Almost perfect internal links (Yoast premium - very easy to create internal links)
- Almost perfect site performance (focus on AMP and Good Hosting)
Need to make an outstanding content audit to find those content gap, where you can rank, there is no sense trying to rank for a keyword difficulty is 80, does not make sense.
This is just my opinion based on my experience

Re: Inbound Links. Whether it's HTTP or HTTPS, does it still go towards the same inbound link count?
Re: Inbound Links. If another website links to my website, does it make a difference to my inbound link count if they use http or https? Basically, my site http://mysite.com redirects to https://mysite.com, so if another website uses the link http://mysite.com, will https://mysite.com still benefit from the inbound links count? I'm unsure if I should reach out to all my inbound links to tell them to use my https URL instead...which would be rather time consuming so just checking http and https counts all the same. Thanks.

Top hierarchy pages vs footer links vs header links
Hi All, We want to change some of the linking structure on our website. I think we are repeating some non-important pages at footer menu. So I want to move them as second hierarchy level pages and bring some important pages at footer menu. But I have confusion which pages will get more influence: Top menu or bottom menu or normal pages? What is the best place to link non-important pages; so the link juice will not get diluted by passing through these. And what is the right place for "keyword-pages" which must influence our rankings for such keywords? Again one thing to notice here is we cannot highlight pages which are created in keyword perspective in top menu. Thanks

New page not being picked up
Hello, We have created a new page for truck rentals but for some reason it does not seem to be picked up. See this report: http://screencast.com/t/npYqeoa5gq The page is: https://www.globecar.com/en/montreal-truck-rentals but our main site is being pickedup instead vs the competition that has their truck page showing up. Can anyone help me understand? Thanks, Karim

Links: Links come from bizzare pages
Hi all, My question is related to links that I saw in Google Search Console. While looking at who is linking to my site, I saw that GSC has some links that are coming from third party websites but these third party webpages are not indexed and not even put up by their owners. It looks like the owner never created these pages, these pages are not indexed (when you do a site: search in Google) but the URL of these pages loads content in the browser. Example - www.samplesite1.com/fakefolder/fakeurl what exactly is this thing? To mention more details, the third party website in question is a Wordpress website and I guess is probably hijacked. But how does one even get these types pages/URLs up and running on someone else's website and then link out to other websites. I am concerned as the content that I am getting link from is adult content and I will have to do some link cleansing soon.

Questions About Link Detox
Greetings: In April of 2014 an SEO firm ran a link removal campaign (identified spammy links and uploaded a disavow). The overall campaign was ineffective and MOZ domain rank has fallen to 24 from about 30 in the last year and traffic is 20% lower. I purchased a basic package for Link Detox and ran a report today (see enclosed) to see if toxic links could be contributing to our mediocre rankings. As a novice I have a few questions for you regarding this the use of Link Detox: -We scored a domain wide detox risk of 1,723. The site has referring root domains with 7113 links to our site. 121 links were classified as high audit priority. 56 as medium audit priority. 221 links were previously disavowed and we uploaded a spreadsheet containing the names of the previously disavowed links. We had LinkDetox include an analysis of no-follow links as they recommend this. Is our score really bad? If we remove the questionable links should we see some benefit in ranking? -Some of the links we disavowed last year are still linking to our site. Is it worthwhile to include those links again in our new disavow file? -Prior to filing a disavow we will request that Webmaster remove offending links. LinkDetox offers a package called Superhero for $469.00 that automates the process. Does this package effectively help with the entire process of writing and tracking the removal requests? Do you know of any other good alternatives? -A feature called "Boost" is included in the LinkDetox Super Hero package. It is suppose to expedite Google's processing of the disavow file. I was told by the staff at Link Detox that with Boost Google will process the disavow within a week. Do you have any idea if this claim is valid??? It would be great if it were true. -We never experienced any manual penalty from Google. Will uploading a disavow help us under the circumstances? Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it!!! Links to Facebook pages
I would like to ask if anyone has any knowledge regarding linking to a company's facebook page. I have built a few links to a client's facebook page in an effort to have it rank better in SERPs. I just learned that unlike twitter and linkedin, it is apparently not possibly to directly link to facebook pages. At least it is not possible from a search engine's perspective. If you follow any facebook page link while you are not logged into facebook, you are redirected to the facebook home page. I can't think of any way around this obstacle. I'd love some clever solution such as providing a URL which includes a basic dummy facebook login but there is nothing I am aware of to achieve this result. Does anyone have any ideas on this topic?
