How do I use meta descriptions properly?
-
Hi there,
I am starting to write a blog and I wanted to know, how to write meta descriptions correctly? I have been reading a lot about this subject lately and I found very different opinions in terms of length.
Could you give me some advise about this?
Thank you!!

You should not worry much about the length, up to a maximum of 300 characters. A few years ago the maximum was about 155, but Google increased it to 300.
What is really important about the Meta Description is that you write something that gets the attention of the searcher, in the way that he or she decides to click and enter your web. So try to think: ¿what can result interesting to the searcher to mention in my meta description?
I recommend especially mentioning the price, ir you have a good price, or an offer if you have it, or anything interesting for the searcher that you have. Using exclamations is also a good point.
Dont think in terms of SEO for this meta, think about CTR.
Hope my comment helped you!!

Definitely recommend reading the blog from Dr. Pete above as well! A condensed answer is to write Meta Descriptions to encourage people to click on your listing while giving a relevant and quick, 1-2 sentence, synopsis of the content on the page. You can use a free tool like https://www.portent.com/serp-preview-tool to see what your Meta Description will look like (roughly) in a Google search result.

Hi Lucía,
Dr. Pete wrote an article about this subject a few weeks ago, I think you should check it: How to write meta descriptions in a constantly changing world. I hope this will help you

Duplicate Descriptions
Hi, Our Woo Commerce store has about 30 product tags, of which a separate page is created for each, therefore needing the usual titles and descriptions adding. I want to know if the pages will be penalised if I 90% duplicate the 150 word description for product tags that have areas of overlap. How important is this? Thanks.

Using Brand Descriptions
We have an online site with approximately 800 products. When we add new products we typically use the photos and product description provided by the brand. The problem is there are numerous other sites using the same descriptions. All other content on the site is original. Is having small blocks of content that are the same on multiple sites likely to cause problems with Google?

How do I properly sitemap a site with static pages + Wordpress in it's own directory?
I apologize for the awkward wording in the headline. No to the issue, I have a site with static pages that are created as follows: url.com, url.com/page1, url.com/page2, etc. I then have WordPress install at url.com/blog. What is the proper method for creating a comprehensive sitemap for my entire domain. I like the sitemap feature provided by Yoast SEO plugin but I assume it will only index the wordpress directory (url.com/blog). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Author Rank - Using the brand as the author
Hi i'm building a new site and want to start building up author rank right from the start. If you are building author rank for a brand, do you think its fine to use the brand as the actual author of the content, instead of a actual person? Or using a stage name rather then a persons actual name, and have your writers write under that particular stage name? Would love to hear peoples opinions. Cheers, Mark

What Website Visual Structure Software Do You Use?
I need to continually create website trees for our group of websites. I was wondering what software you guys use to create site structure/trees? I've used Powerpoint, Giffy and other diagram software but ideally I want to find something that crawls my site and spits out a diagram and also gives me the option to add none existing trees so I can show new purposed sections. Cheers, Gary
