I am looking for my "Flywheel" that can help me scale link building
-
I am looking to scale our link building efforts to create better inner link opportunities, according to the "flywheel" method by Rand, I need to find something that is "evergreen" and creative, What are some of the coolest campaigns you guys have seen?
-
Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for the question.
Here are a few couple of sources of great content / great campaigns that I usually refer to:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Z2CSidq-6fxOY1YJLu-MY-DdTqWKiSL4gsuSGVC42r0/edit (curated by Rand)
https://www.informationisbeautifulawards.com/showcase?award=2017&pcategory=winner&type=awards - very data led but naturally evergreen because you can refresh the data when new sets come out
Hopefully that helps!
Paddy

Guest Posting At Scale - A Definition!
Hi, have just watched the latest Whiteboard Friday entitled 'Why Guest Posting and Blogging is a Slippery Slope'. Rand mentions '"guest posting at scale", but what does he actually mean? For the purpose of building website authority and brand awareness we post around 1-4 blog posts per month for our clients, all on authoirty sites, some of which accept guest posts with little editorial restriction, some we have to jump through hoops for. We don't use KW specific anchor text, instead we link to the clients site with semantically related, varied anchor text, as well as linking to other useful third party sources. We also publish regular useful content on our clients blogs in the hope of getting natural backlinks. Would this be classed as 'guest posting at scale'? Do you think we could we be targeted and penalised by the upcoming guest post algorithm? Many thanks in advance, Lee.

What is the best way to buy expired similar domain names and point them at your site to garner link juice?
what is the best way to buy expired similar domain names and point them at your site to garner link juice? there are lots of domains with good links pointing to them that are now expired and those links would be in the same subject as your site and a good addition to your current links. I've heard that 301 redirected links only pass half value but even that would be a great addition to your domain authority if you could purchase those domains and 301 them to your site? what are everyone's thoughts on this and how do i go about this? Thanks in advance mozzers! Ron

Link juice retained when using nofollows?
Is it still true that when linking to other sites with nofollow links, the juice is retained on your page? Or is the juice lost, but just not passed on to the other site? I found this whiteboard friday, but it's pretty old (2007): http://www.seomoz.org/blog/whiteboard-friday-the-juice-is-loose Looking forward to your thoughts!

Will the link back to my site be worth building them one for free?
To clarify, I am in the running to be awarded a project by a college in my area. They want to pay NOTHING for me to have my designers and developers build a site for them. If I don't want it several other companies will do it (or so they say). This site will be used to promote an event that is held annually in different major cities around the world. (online registration, pay online, etc) The weird part to me is the governing body of this event has the hosting city build their own website and promote the event on their own so every year they reinvent the wheel with a whole new website (not smart I know). **Is this worth it for me? ** The attendees will be almost exclusively from colleges and all have edu. websites and emails they will be using to register. There will be about 1,000 attendees I do get a link giving my company credit for building the site at the bottom of every page BUT..... I realize any love my site gets from the search engines will be next to nothing, right? (its a BRAND new domain and by the time it start getting any recognition the event will be over and it will be abandoned plus it will be watered down bcs they can tell its a site I built). Is it possible that when one of the attendees tweets or links to the page my site could get a little love? If I impress my contact that is sending me this 'business' I know it will turn into more paying work.............. **Thoughts? Opinion? Is there a silver lining i'm missing? Is this a dumb move? ** Thank you for your time and any response! Matthew

Any recommendations on how to keep track of time that clients can see
I know there are programs you can log into to keep track of how much time you are spending on a clients site Does anybody have one they like and feel works well for SEO? Opinions on working this way? I like the idea for my benefit as much as theirs. I find myself struggling to make sure I work ENOUGH for some clients and not WAY to much for others. Plus I want to make sure I am staying focused on THEIR site and not wandering down a rabbit trail doing research and learning about something new on the clients dime. I REALLY like the idea of my clients being able to log into their account and seeing the status / progress on their account from MY website. I think I have only seen this 1-2 times so i'm sure it isn't easy. Thoughts? Have an AWESOME week everybody! Matthew

Unnatural links
Realizing that there are several links pointing to my domain, and most of them I do not recognize, who seem to have been made by a competitor in order to hurt me in Google, how should I to proceed?

How would you Oustsource Link Building if your budget is $200?
Hi, We all know that Link building is a tough job which requires persistent effort , and for a content creator it takes focus away from his job , which is "creating content". So content producers resort to "outsourcing" their link building. Now, unlike business/ enterprise , professional SEO's cost a fortune and beyond reach of an upcoming content creator. So he/she resorts to cheaper link building mediums like Forum Posts , Blog Comments , Article submissions , automate bookmarking site submissions etc. All the above software relatively do not cost much ($50-$100) BUT create links which do not have much value and hence not desirable. ============ My question is - ============= How can a content producer (like me) with a budget of meager $200 spend his money to get "most value" out of his link building activities
