Google Beacons
-
We received Google Beacons for each of our physical locations, the info from Google is:
- It transmits a signal via BLE to smartphones within 11 meters
- It will provide information to visitors and offer opportunities to see products and add reviews
- It's connected to your Google Ads account somehow
- It is "on" as soon as it's removed form it's box
- It has to be activated via a provided code
My question:
- Where does the data transmitted by the Beacon come from?
- How can I control that data?
- Is it pulled from our GMB account?
THX for reading and responding, I'll add more to this as I learn more about Beacons.

Here is the message I received from Google:
**Beacons transmit small bits of data like a random number or unique URL roughly once per second. These signals are readable by BLE-compatible devices, like smartphones and tablets, within a limited proximity range. Apps with the appropriate Bluetooth permissions can read these signals and perform actions. **
Beacons are an interesting new technology that will generate useful customer experiences and insightful analytics for your business. There are many reasons to participate, including:
- Store Visit Insights - Report on consumer behavior such as how long they spent in store & where they are going next
- Store Visit Integration - Signals for Google provided beacons will be utilized as an additional input to store visit reports as soon as they are installed
How does this actually work?
BLE beacons give users better location and proximity experiences by acting as digital lighthouses. They effectively “mark-up” (or tag) the real world for mobile devices to understand and use. For this store visits pilot, BLE beacons will be used to provide more precise indoor location “tagging” in situations where GPS does not work well (e.g., within a shopping mall). The user will have location history enabled and Bluetooth on for BLE beacons to register and inherently improve our store visits model.

Hi Kevin,
I've never actually gotten to implement a beacon, but my understanding is that the data is pulled from Google's Places API. Looks like this gives the full scoop: https://developers.google.com/beacons/get-started

Changing Business Address on Google Profile & Citations
Hello, I'm looking to change a business address to a new one on a Google business profile (still in the same area but on a different street). So, I'll need to update all citations and website with the new address - Is it recommended to update the citations & website first, and then change the address on the Google business profile, or vice-versa? Looking to do this as safely as possible without negatively impacting the rankings much. I'm seeing a lot of conflicting information on this. Thanks in advance.

Why does Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA) gives different results than a Google search for a very similar or identical query?
My client Dr. Harris ranks #1 in SERPs and Local results for many terms, including "hair transplant surgeon Denver" However, when I did a voice search w Siri ""find me a hair transplant surgeon in Denver" Siri said she could find no results. A similar search for a clinic returned 2 competitors, but not my client. How do I ensure we are served up in voice queries? This surgeon deserves it, he invented most of the technology in use in the world today.

The Infernal Google Hotel Finder
Good Morning Mozzers, I currently have a client who is trying to place ads on Google Hotel Finder. I've recently conducted a great deal of research on this topic, but I'm still struggling to find anything definitive in terms of creating ads for the property I represent. Likewise, I've noticed that my client's property is ranking very poorly for a number of keyword terms when you click "more places" on the search results page. In short, I need to achieve two items (AND FAST...): being able to create ads for the property on Google Hotel Finder, and figuring out how to get the property to rank more highly in the "more places" section of the search results page. Quite frankly, we are willing to do any and all things necessary at this point to expedite the process. Any and all insight/recommendations would be great! Thank you all so much for reading, I look forward to hearing your comments!

Has anyone any experience of Google pulling through random meta descriptions.
If you search "venn digital" then the correct meta description is pulled through, but if you search "venndigital" then it pulls through our twitter feed from the bottom of the page. My only suggestion is that it is doing it because there is no mention of " Venn Digital" in the body of the copy, so it is going to the twitter feed at the bottom of the page where Venn Digital is mentioned to pull this info through.

Have you heard of any white hat methods for influencing Google's auto suggest/auto complete?
We have a client who has a "friend" who says he can get keyword phrases that include their business name to show up in Google's auto suggest when doing a search. We have not heard much about this and are skeptical to these claims as we know how Google comes up with these suggested keyword phrases. Wondering if anyone in the community heard much about tactics to influence auto suggest/auto complete and would like to know your opinion about it.
