International Blog Structure & Hreflang Tags
-
Hi all,
I'm running an international website across 5 regions using a correct hreflang setup.
A problem I think I have is that my blog structure is not standardized and also uses hreflang tags for each blog article.
This has naturally caused Google to index each of the pages across each region, meaning a massive amount of pages are being crawled.
I know hreflang solves and issues with duplication penalties, but I have another question.
If I have legacy blog articles that are considered low quality by Google, is that counting against my site once or multiple times for each time the blog is replicated across each region? I'm not sure if hreflang is something that would tell Google this.
For example, if I have low quality blog posts:
blog/en-us/low-quality-article-1
blog/en-gb/low-quality-article-1
blog/en-ca/low-quality-article-1Do you think Google is counting this as 3 low quality articles or just 1 if hreflang is correctly implemented?
Any insights would be great because I'm considering to cull the international setup of the blog articles and use just /blog across each region.

Hey there–assuming you've correctly implemented your hreflang tags (as alternate inks in your head codes, see example below) then Googlebot should not see these as duplicates of each other.
It's hard for me to weigh in on the other element of your question, "my blog structure is not standardized," without examples. How are you differentiating your international content in your URL structures?
Another question: are these blog articles actually localized? Meaning, is there custom content (e.g. events in X location) or differences (e.g. spelling conventions) for these regions? If not, you may not even need these international versions of your blog content if it's not being translated.

Looking for opinions on structuring meta title tags/page title/menu title/H1
Hi everyone I am hoping a few of you can share your opinions. I have been having conversations (okay, healthy debates) about how to write/structure meta title tag and how to compliment them with the H1, page title, menu name. To help explain the thought processes I will use a pretend keyword. How about "screwdriver". Case: (I made this up) we are redesigning a website for a construction tools manufacturing company (pretend name: ABC Tools) targeting OEMs who are interested in purchasing large quantities of tools. The product categories (to become main menu items) are Screwdrivers, Nails, Drills, and Hammers. (bear with me .... this is just an example I am making up on the fly) K. Circling back to screwdrivers - let's say we have one landing page (a primary category page and in the main menu) listing products and great details about screwdrivers. Focus keywords are screwdriver manufacturer, screwdriver supplier, construction screwdrivers Below are questions being debated. If you are willing ... how would you address these questions? And, can you explain WHY? QUESTION ONE: How would you structure the meta title tag (feel free to write one of your own) Screwdriver Manufacturer - Construction Screwdriver | ABC Tools ABC Tools - US-based Screwdriver Manufacturer Supplier Near You High-Quality Screwdrivers for Construction with ABC Tools QUESTION TWO: how would you write the H1 on the page? Would it match the meta tag? OR, would you write something different using the primary keyword? QUESTION THREE Remembering this is not a blog post ... it is a primary landing page linked to the main navigation. What would the menu title be? (remember the product categories above are how the main menu items are bucketed) Screwdrivers Screwdriver Manufacturer Typically in WordPress, the H1 and the menu title is auto-populated using the page title (not the title tag)... So, if we use Screwdrivers as the page title but we want the H1 to match the meta title tag, would we manually change the H1? Or, have the page title and title tag match, but manually change the menu item?

X Default on hreflang tags
Hi guys, I would like to clarify something about hreflang markups and most importantly, x-default. Sample URLs:

http://www.example.com/au/collection/dresses (Australia)
http://www.example.com/us/collection/dresses (United States)
http://www.example.com/uk/collection/dresses (United Kingdom) Sample Markups: Questions:
1. Can I use my AU page as x default? I noticed that some x default are US. Note that my biggest market is AU though.
2. If I indeed use AU page as x default, and the user is searching from China, does it mean that Google will return my AU page?
3. Can you spot any issues with these markups I made? Anything that I need to correct. Keen to hear from you! Cheers,

Pagination & Canonicals
Hi I've been looking at how we paginate our product pages & have a quick question on canonicals. Is this the right way to display.. Or should the canonical point to the main page http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/euro-containers-stacking-containers, so Google doesn't pick up duplicate meta information? Thanks!

Google Author Biography Tag-Why Should I Pay Attention To The Author Biography Tag
Hello, I've reading all about Google's Author Biography tag but I am not sure how I can use this in my business. Can anyone explain ( in plain simple English) how I can leverage this tag? Is there any implications in SEO and higher rankings? Just trying to wrap my head around this concept and why it's important...or not. Thanks, Bill
