Search visibility consistently low. No apparent cause.
-
I'm trying to nail down why a site would be consistently showing a search visibility of 1-2% whilst similar competitors are in 20-30s.
There are no site errors reported. Sitemap, robot.txt, meta titles & descriptions, key word presence, alt attributes, load times, canonicals, etc all check out as fine. Backlinks profile is healthier than competitors'.
Yet even searching for our main product the result links to an obscure blog page rather than our main site, despite the presence of identical and similar keywords on our homepage, in our title, h1 tags, web address...
Site content and design seem subjectively good and at the very least matches better performing competitor site's.
Does anyone know of any less visible reason as to why a site would be tanking so badly in search rankings? Have checked using other SEO tools and they all report the same as Moz.

Hi Simon!
As John said, a link to your site or a little more detail would be helpful here.
There's a lot of reasons a site's visibility could be low (a technical issue, low-quality content, poor keyword/page alignment, high competition etc). I know you're saying these things check out, but it's better to be able to take a direct look at things.
It could also just be a metrics/data issue or misinterpretation. For example, visibility percentage can be impacted artificially by the keywords added to a rank tracker.
A better way to look at it might be - have you seen a major change/drop in clicks in search console? If so, can you narrow it down to a specific date or segment it out to find specific keywords or pages that lost visibility?

Hey there! Is it possible to share the link to your site so I can explore using a few other tools that I have?

How can a site rank high without any visible SEO tactics?
Hi SEO specialists, I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but there is something bugging me for awhile now, so I thought let's give it a try. I work for several clients and one of them works in the Psychic business. Since a few months we see that site from Psychicvop.com is taking over all kinds of top rankings in Google. The strange thing is that I can't detect anything that I always learned which is basic material for SEO. There isn't much content and there link profile isn't really spectacular either. Does any of you have an idea what it is about this sites that makes them outrank every other site in the business?

Google Search Console - Indexed Pages
I am performing a site audit and looking at the "Index Status Report" in GSC. This shows a total of 17 URLs have been indexed. However when I look at the Sitemap report in GSC it shows 9,000 pages indexed. Also, when I perform a site: search on Google I get 24,000 results. Can anyone help me to explain these anomalies?

Will Nofollow in Nav Cause a Problem?
I have seen conflicting information regarding the use of rel=nofollow on internal links, but the gist of it seems to be that it's not a good idea. The top linked page on a particular site is a consultation page. Contact is not far behind. Both are linked from the header and footer or sidebar. At first, I thought no-following them would be the perfect solution. After what I've read, it seems I need to remove some of the instances of linking instead of nofollowing. Any e firsthand experience or feedback?

What would cause a sudden rise and drop in keyword ranking?
I made one change to my site - creating a good, relevant, title. A few days later, ranking for a keyword jumped pretty well - which is what I was expecting. We were ranked 9th. Then the next ranking report showed a 20 place decline. What would cause this?

Local Keyword Searches With Broad Terms.
I am able to do keyword research for any term that I want,. However, I want to see results for broad keywords in local areas.... For example.. Hair cut Miami may get 100 searches a month. How can I find the number (x) of search volume for "Hair Cut" searched within Miami, FL.? If I add the 100 and the other number (x) it may be worth the while to build.
