Website Essentially Delisted and Top SERPS Removed
-
So what a morning.... Did a search for our website and looked to see how we were doing with a couple of search terms and it turns out our website is GONE. I mean not a slap down or fluctuations in positioning but we are literal gone.
I see that the contact page is pulls up on page 8 but effectively we dont exist. This is so odd and strange that i feel that this is a dream. The fact that we dont pull up on any search terms anymore is of a concern that this is something more than a penalty. What on Earth could have caused this? This is fluke? Can i call Google?
Seems that index page has been removed from the search results

Hi Nick, do you think they are targeting particular groups? I wouldn't put past Google...
-
I saw this on Twitter, I'm not sure how I feel about how John downplayed it with a joke though
-
Great, thanks for also confirming.

The issue is now being reported as fixed, with a response from Google’s John Mueller saying it was a technical issue their end. https://searchengineland.com/google-de-indexing-issue-now-fixed-result-of-technical-issues-315058
-
Myself and a friend (who is a competitor) both had the same problem. Doing a URL Inspection in Google Search Console - specifically the Test Live URL thing - fixed it immediately.
-
Alex is right this was likely a temporary thing.
It's probably still worth checking your Google Search Console though in the very unlikely case there's any warning messages or manual actions.
I've just performed a site search for you and can see 330 results for "canonical" domain and 545 for all subdomains.
You also appeared for a brand search, so hopefully you are good now.
If it still isn't, please try and crawl + submit for indexing within GSC. This has reportedly returned ranks for quite a lot of SEOs.
Good luck,
Nick

Thank you for the update.

You're the third person (that I've seen) reporting the issue here on the Moz Q&A.
SEO Round Table have an article about it: https://www.seroundtable.com/google-dropping-pages-out-of-the-search-index-27369.html
Bottom line, you're not alone, and there is no response from Google yet on what is going on!

When my new website went live I saw a huge spike in traffic for 3 weeks but then it halved again. Why would this happen?
My new website went live on 13th April and the organic traffic levels increased by 110%, staying at that level for 3 weeks. Then exactly 3 weeks later the organic traffic halved again, going back to the same level as the old site. Has anyone seen this happen before or worked out why?! Thanks Viki P2R76O9

Removing Bad Links, Bad?
Our situation is this.. We recently went through a major redesign that included a significant change in content and URL structure. This of course cause a significant increase in 404 from our search traffic. In an effort to minimize those 404s we requested that Google remove certain URL directories from their index. Doing this resulted in a 90% drop in the number of impressions we were getting from search. My question is this, is it better to allow the 404s with a good landing page that explains the changes or better to remove the bad urls? Much thanks...

Cover my tracks / two websites on the same Analytics
Hi, I've got 2 websites and I like one of them to make some links to the other one. These two sites are on the same Google Analytics account. They have been set up 3 month ago and they have some articles on them. I've heard that Google can see that those websites are related in my Analytics and use this information to give less power to the link I could make between them. What do think about it and what do you recommend me ? Shoud I closed the Analytics account ? Or down one of the website and rebuilt it whith a different domain / host / analytics ? The thing is if I delete one of the website i'll be force to republish the articles, because there are links on it, and they're part of a deal I've already made. Thank you

What should I expect after completely redoing a website?
Hello Forum, My team and I have completely redone an eCommerce website, which offers new SEO-friendly URLs. We have also taken care to optimize our product and category pages for specific keywords, so as to keep our regular traffic and increase the long-tail. In the old un-optimized website, many of its Google search results simply took users to the homepage, thus the homepage has a lot of external link juice. Our new site is optimized so that users are taken to the page most relevant to their query. For example (we are a yoga site), with the old site a search for "yoga bolsters" would take visitors to the homepage. Now the search results take the users to the yoga bolster page. These new pages don't have the amount of external links as the new site and I've noticed a decrease in our site's average rank in Google Webmaster Tools 1.Given our new site with its new URLs, should this increase be expected? (we have implemented 301 redirects from the old site to the new) 2. What steps would you take to ensure you keep your rankings with the new site? Are they any special tools you recommend? 3. What the best way to increase the ones that have dropped? Page optimization? Link building? Both?
