      UPDATED 4/29/2019 4:33 PM

      • I had made to many copy and pastes. Product pages are corrected

Upon researching the hreflang x-default tag, I am getting some muddy results for implementation on an international company site  older results say just homepage or the country selector but….

My Question/Direction going forward for the International Site I am working on:  I believe I can to put x-default all the pages of every country and point it to the default language page for areas that are not covered with our current sites. Is this correct?

From my internet reading, the x-default on every page is not truly necessary for Google but it will be valid implemented.

      My current site setup example:
      https://www.bluewidgets.com Redirects to https://www.bluewidgets.com/us/en (functions as US/Global)

Example Countries w/ code Site:- 4 countries/directories US/Global, France, Spain

Would the code sample below be correct?

      1. https://www.bluewidgets.com/us/en/ (functions as US/Global)

      2. US/Global Country Homepage - https://www.bluewidgets.com/us/en/

      3. US/Global Country Product Page(s) This would be for all products - https://www.bluewidgets.com/us/en/whizzer-5001/

      4. http://www.bluewidgets.com/us/en (functions for France)

      5. France Country Homepage - https://www.bluewidgets.com/fr/fr/

      6. France Country Product Page(s) This would be for all products- https://www.bluewidgets.com/es/es/whizzer-5001

      7. http://www.bluewidgets.com/us/en (functions as Spain)

      8. Spain Country Homepage - https://www.bluewidgets.com/es/es/

      9. Spain Country Product Page(s) This would be for all products - https://www.bluewidgets.com/es/es/whizzer-5001

      Thanks for the spot check

Yes, your understanding of x-default is correct. The purpose of including it everywhere you have alternate HREFLANG links, is to handle any locales you don't explicitly include (to tell the search engine which is the default version of the page for other non-specified locales). And it should be included on each version of the page, along with the other specified alternate links for each locale. Alternatively, you could collect all of these centrally into the sitemap file, rather than inserting into each page. Both types of implementation are valid (but anecdotally I've had better luck with on-page tags instead of sitemap implementation).

          International SEO

Okay, so I have read through the following link in respect to International SEO (https://moz.com/learn/seo/international-seo), and I believe that the way forward it a ccTLD. My thought was to have .com, .co.uk and .eu. Currently my site is .com, but receives most of its traffic from UK sources. I'm concerned that when I switch over to ccTLDs, the .co.uk in particular, that my UK traffic could dry up. Switching from .com to .co.uk and then using the .com to target the US market makes sense, but I would like to know others opinions on the potential dangers of doing this. Also, are ccTLDs kept on the same hosting or would they require individual hosting? The link doesn't cover this question.

Targeting Countries in the Middle East

Hi guys, I have a client based in the Middle East using a generic top level domain (.com), and they want to target multiple countries in the GCC (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar etc). I’m thinking that using the hreflang tag would be the best solution here, however the pages will mostly have the exact same content. There will only be slight changes on some pages in terms of using localised title tags [client service] followed by [targeted country], h1's and meta descriptions. Is this the correct approach? And if so should this be implemented side wide or can it be implemented on selected pages only? The site will be in English only.

URL Structure - Homepage, Country and State Pages

Hello, I am creating a website (or websites if best format) that will have state-specific boating license courses for every state in the US, Canada and Australia. I would like the content to be available on the website in English, French and Spanish. I want to be the global leader in providing boat test courses. For the (1) homepage, (2) country pages, and (3) state pages, what is best SEO format I should use for:
          (a) URL structure
          (b) "href lang" code
          (c) rel canonical code
          (d) will meta content with non-English pages need to also be in the non-English language of that page? Also, what server company do you recommend I host my website with? I am a non-programmer and learning SEO, so any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much in advance!!!

Sub-domains or sub-directories for country-specific versions of the site?

What approach do you think would be better from an SEO perspective when creating country-targeted versions for an eCommerce site (all in the same language with slight regional changes) - sub-domains or sub-directories? Is any of the approaches more cost effective, web development-wise? I know this topic's been under much debate and I would really like to hear your opinion. Many thanks!

          SEO Company in Asia

Hi All.  I have a client looking to expand their industrial services to southeast Asia (Vietnam and Indonesia specifically right now).  Does anyone know of an SEO/Online Marketing firm local to that region that may be able to help them network with businesses and industries there? I've gone through the SEOmoz member database and reached out to a couple people with agencies in that area but never heard back from them. I personally thought a local firm would be more beneficial to the client but I'm also open to suggestions on ways that we might be able to help them market their services online from the US. Thanks so much! Megan

          Country specific landing pages

I have a client who wants to put a re-direct on his landing pages based on the visitors IP address. The landing page will be a sub domain relevant to the country their IP is located in. I am a little concerned this will effect the SEO. Appreciate any advice. Dylan 🙂

Subdomain hosted in a different country - what are the implications?

Hello, We are looking at creating an eCommerce section to a website and we are just weighing up the options: Magento - host on hour own server - great but it can often be very slow when hosting a shared server. Shopify - hosted solution but hosting is in the US and we are in the UK and shop will be hosted on a subdomain as a result Build our own solution - time consuming and costly There are two issues that have arisen from this situation.... Is it worse for SEO to host your store in a different country or to host in your country but your store potentially run slower? I'm swaying to the side of the argument that says give your users a good and fast experience instead of worrying about where you host the store. Bearing in mind that the main website will be hosted in the UK anyway and it is just the subdomain that will be hosted in the US. Just wondered if anybody has had experience with this or if I'm missing something? All feedback greatly appreciated! Thanks, Elias
