FavIcons
-
I've added a new favicon to a website, which is displayed on browser tabs, on both mobile & desktop devices.
But, in SERPs on mobile devices, the old favicon is still showing - How do I flush this our so that the new one is displayed?
-
Favicons have become increasingly complex. Browsers store them, they come to be differentiated by the implementation of the schema etc.. ie we have one client who is using 6 favicons off the same website.
So to answer properly someone has to do a technical dive.
To assist each operating system has different favicon requirements - so in your instance would look at how many variations of the favicon you have. ie
favicon.icowith 16×16, 32×32 icon sizesfavicon-16x16.png: Modern equivalent of original ICO formatfavicon-32x32.png: Safariapple-touch-icon-180.png: Apple touch iconicon-192.png: Chrome/Androidsafari-pinned-tab.svg: Safari pinned tab SVGmstile-150x150.png: MS tile
Hope that helps. It does sound like a technical implementation issue rather than a crawl issue.
Good luck.

The change happened several months ago & the site has been crawled frequently

Hi,
Have you tried to request the indexing of the urls through Google Search Console? Until Google does not track your website it will not appear on the serps. In my case, it did not take long for me to appear on the mobile serps. This link can help you: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9290858
