Domain and Sub-Domain Question
-
Hi,
My company owns the domains www.NYSTATEMLS.COM and www.MYSTATEMLS.COM both of these sites are already on there way with a lot going on. I did just review video 5 on technical SEO and Rand was talking about how much harder it is to rank two websites.
So i'm wondering what could be done in this area? Should something be done?
The website nystatemls.com is necessary because it's dedicated to the state of new york & has been around for a long time. mystatemls.com came later because the business grew and we opened up to the national market. Looking for some insight.
Thanks so much,
Chris Farcher

If what you are doing is working then don't change it! IF your business grows enough to be worth it then fold NY into the larger site. If NY is the primary target, just keep both of them for now. You can refer all the NY traffic that is coming to the MY page to the NY page.

Is image SEO worth it for e-commerce?
I have been trying to find any case studies of people who have optimized images for SEO for their e-commerce website, but haven't been able to find any case study, indicating obtained results. I am wondering how much increase in Google Image search traffic others have been able to obtain when optimizing their e-commerce images for image SEO. I need this information to justify development resources needed for for example an image sitemap, changes to file names and alt texts, title tags and possibly EXIF data. File size is already ok. Hope someone has experience with this and can share some results. Also, would be great if Moz would do a Whiteboard Friday about this 🙂 (hint!).

Should this site be using Rel=Canonical VS No Index
I'm currently working on this site https://www.visitliverpool.com/accommodation I've been watching this video by Rand - https://moz.com/blog/rel-canonical but it's still unclear in this scenario. if you use the search facility "check availability" half way down the page the results page (urlparams) are no indexed. Would it be better to index and canonicalise? There is no similar content but I'm concerned that no index will remove the ability for semantic content to be visible to google. LADkajY

Local SEO Citation Questions
I have checked out some great resources from Rand and others here on SEOMoz, as well as some other great articles written on YouMoz by you guys! I have two questions when it comes to citations for Local SEO though. I have heard that Google does not really take the address into consideration when indexing local citations. Instead it is a combination of the business name + phone number + area code. On one hand this makes a lot of sense as far as Google crunching all the information. You can achieve a fairly accurate citation with just those three things and still weed out a lot of the "brand mentions" as citations. However this conflicts with a lot of what I have been reading and watching as far as whiteboard Fridays and blogs here on SEOMoz. Can someone provide some insight or sources concerning this? Secondly, in case of SEO and Web Design companies, such as ourselves, who do not receive the "One Box" for Google localized search, do citations play any lesser role in ranking for localized seo keywords? I am not sure if there is a definitive answer to these questions or if they are open ended. Regardless any insight would be invaluable!

Client has two domains for the same business
My client does hardwood flooring AND concrete polishing. He has one domain for hardwood flooring and the other website is for concrete polishing. (separate domain) Building traffic, links, authority for two sites is going to take MUCH longer for two separate domains than if they focused their effort on just ONE domain. **Any suggestions on how best to handle this? ** One of the domains is 8 years old and has 736 links pointing to it (not many of them are very good). The other one is much newer and it has 1,269 links pointing to it. What doesn't help is the first domain specifically spells out "hardwoodflooring' and the other has 'concretepolishing' in it. Keep em separate or forward them to a more universal sounding domain name? www.billybobsflooring.com for example? Thank you for ANY suggestions! 🙂 Have a great Halloween everybody, Matthew

Some questions on Multilingual sites with domain strategy
hi seomoz addicted, i need your help.... did you see the webinar last friday? i totally agree with randfish,
Whiteboard Friday | | guidoboem
especially when he talks about redirection; To create my multilanguage site i inserted a php redirection on my site homepage that redirects visitors to the right domains. everything it was working fine when i realized that googlebot was no more able to index both sites becouse it was redirected only to one.... i think that i'll create an home page where visitor could select their language and then by setting a cookie that redirects only the returning visitors ... what do you think? I've just one doubt, shall i put this home page on both domain, and what will be the new url adress of my current home page? How the new home page have to look like ( in terms of seo )? i mean there will be only an image and two links for the .com and .it domain, isnn't it? and how to put the cookie for returning visitors? hope to have been clear thanks,

Few questions regarding Rand's Over Optimization Video
I was just watching the Whiteboard Friday video and it was informative and good. Thank god, we always tried to stay natural and all of our websites are perfectly not in danger. Anyways, I do have few questions : He said about internal links on inner pages. One of our site has a sidebar with a list of 10 items, which are our main services and we want users always to have a access to it, so we have placed it on the sidebar and it appears on all pages. Is it wrong ? About the links, we have a list of social bookmarking sites, like 450 sites, and all of them are PR2-PR5 sites, etc. We submit each of our product to those sites . Is it wrong ? And how to know, which is a low quality site and we should not submit the link there ? We receive like 10+ link requests per day and we place their links and they place ours on resources page. Is it wrong ? We write eZine article for all of our products/keywords and submit. Is it wrong ? Looks like, the old school link building method are going to go down the pit hole by Google. Whats the new way to build links ? This is making me crazy.
