Backlinks from PR sites not showing in Open Site Explorer
-
Hi,
Over the last year I have used a range of different PR sites to post news articles that link back to various pages on my site. However, barely any show up as link backs on Open Site Explorer, neither follow nor nofollow links.
Can anyone explain why this is and whether or not the dofollow links count towards SEO if they are not picked up by OSE?

Thanks for the reply, sorry it's taken me a while to respond.
I've used a variety of PR sites for the best part of a year now so it seems strange that barely any of them are being picked up.

And a similar reply from Casey Henry:
"OSE is updated monthly with the freshest data that it crawled from the month before. There are a few different things you need to remember when looking at links in OSE. First, It may take up to two months before you link will appear depending on when it was crawled and when the system processes it. Second, the web is very very large and sometimes the spiders don't get to every website and collect every link you've earned. I suggest you not worry too intensely that the link doesn't appear in OSE but continue to work on getting a wide variety of links. It is highly likely that Google has found this link and we are still working on it."

When did you sign up for SEOmoz Pro? It can take a while for the crawler to acknowledge links. This is from a past Q&A by Joshua Mullins:
"the seomoz crawler is very conservative and will take a while to pick up on links. This has both good and bad aspects. Don't worry though you can always check in Google's webmaster tools for backlinks to your site.
It usually takes 1-2 months for the mozcrawler to find links to my sites. If you are impatient you can try pinging the links with something like pingomatic.com although i am not sure if the mozcrawler listens to those signals or not...."

Open Site explorer shifting results - which to trust and not to trust?
I was doing a search on Open Site Explorer, comparing my site with competitors in the field. When looking under the Page Specific Metrics tab I first got the results that I had no internal links whatsoever, and 8 external links in total. I had a page authority of 34, and so on. Then I saw it suggested that my domain was redirecting to www.mydomain.com/ (a slash at the end), even though this is wrong. But I clicked the "see this url instead" and now the results changed a lot. It now shows that I have 72 internal links, and 6 external links. And also a lower page authority of 28. Now you might say it is because I changed the url to the one with a slash, but I changed back to the one without a slash (and now I don't get the message about the redirect). What's up with open site explorer? What results should I trust?

Also, same question for forums: I've registered for several high pr forums and competed the registration with a BBCode signature. What is the url for that backlink if I submitted it to a indexing service? Thanks in advance.0 -
Promoting a Technical Site
I have to promote a manufacturer's rep site. They deal in process control instruments, and they don't have much original content. Creating it is hard for me due to the technical nature of the business. If any Mozzers have an idea I'd love to hear it.
