Article Marketing for Backlinks
-
Ok I know there's a lot of information already on here about Article Marketing for SEO, but I need to know if anyone here has recently ran an article campaign successfully?
Correct me if I am wrong, but submitting the same article to a bunch (more than 1-2) article directories for back links is a bad idea. Right?
Maybe it worked in 2006, but now even the site themselves (Article Directories) are just so polluted with spam from the pass that, that Even if you submitted a genuine article.. it would still not give you as much Juice because the sites themselves are considered spamy.
Looking at Alexa's ranking of Ezine Articles kind of proves that, after Panda Hit.
The bottom line is, my boss says I have to start writing articles for backlinks. He wanted me to blast them across multiple directories. So I need to be absolutely certain that where I place these articles will have Quality impact on our sites SEO.
Tips, Advice, Links, THANKS!

I'd avoid article directories. They are not bad, but from a value standpoint, guest blogging has more potential. Either way you should be creating unique content. If you contact the bloggers prior to creating the material, then you can almost guarantee a spot on their blog by writing about what they want on their blog. It's always better to have people in place willing to "buy" your info before you spend time writing the article.
Justin Briggs uses a similar strategy for his info-graphics. He details his strategy here:

Your link is broken base.

Yeah I think we all agree guest blogging is a powerful way to attain quality backlinks. It’s not easy though, that’s why time and time again people just can’t help themselves from submitting articles to Article Directories and/or Linking their Keyword Term to Industry Site Directories.
Plus, as I was just reading this post http://www.seomoz.org/q/is-da-a-reliable-domain-metric :: And I feel the same way about the DA. Point being, some blatantly obvious spam sites have High DA, which is confusing.
We have very few backlinks and horrible anchor text associated with them.
Realistically speaking, I think finding a good blog to guest post on, writing the content and getting it on the internet would be At-Least a 2-3 week process. So if we guest posted every 2 weeks, in 1 year we would only have 26 backlinks.
Such a small number ....It's just really hard to justify the Time and effort this will take to get 26 back links when our competitors already have thousands for the competing anchor text. It's worth it right?
Thanks for the reply.

Guest blogging is a better idea. I'm sure there are plenty of quality related blogs around who would be willing to take great content with a link back to your site.
Or is there some way of getting these catering services reviewed in return for a link? Perhaps offer some free services or a discount? As well as the link, if you choose the right places it'd be advertising your services to relevant people, so you could attract more business that way.
Can this company offer solutions to any particular problems the internet population might have? If so, search forums and a thoughtful answer with a link to the recommended solution on your site could go down well - just make sure it doesn't look like you're spamming if you do anything like this. You could even just help people out without mentioning your company, and have a link or two in your signature. There are ways to find 'dofollow' forums.

Yes, both I and our general marketing coordinator agree with this strategy. What do you think about the Article Directories though? Should I totally avoid them completely?
-
I too have had some success (in the past) with getting traffic from articles, but the quality of this traffic was 'fair' at best.
But to be clear here the goal is not to drive traffic.
The goal is to build a back link portfolio and from quality anchor text.
I appreciate your reply.

Work with popular blogs in your industry and find out what content they would like to see. Then make it.

It's probably better to write a unique article for every place you submit them to, so theres no duplicate content issues. It might help a little, but it's certainly a somewhat questionnable link building method today. I've had success article marketing campaigns as far as getting traffic to the articles, then funnelling it to my sites, but not as far as increasing search traffic from the backlinks.

Backlinks
Hi, Does anyone have any experience with acquiring backlinks and their impact on DA and ranks? I am not asking about how to get backlinks, but how soon in your experience you noticed any positive results? Please, can you be specific? I.e. "once I acquired 8 backlinks from websites with DA 70+, my DA changed from x to x and my average rank improved in 4 positions overall/per page". Or any other tangible results. Many thanks. Katarina

Alexa sees a link as backlink to my website which I attached on Upwork inbox.(?)
When I check the backlinks for my website on Alexa, I noticed that , there's a backlink from Upwork, and when I clicked that link, I realized that it's the link of my Upwork inbox and I entered my login credentials to access that page. My question is : How it is possible for Alexa to get that link which I need to enter my details to access the page?

Will getting backlinks to landing page from low quality sites negatively affect SEO?
I've recently started an initiative at my company to get our customers to publish a blog post about our company and to include a link to a landing page which sits on a subdomain attached to our main domain. The reason for directing visitors to the post to a landing page is to help with conversion. I've recently been thinking that couldn't the backlinks to this landing page from our customers' blogs (generally small sites) have a negative impact on the overall SEO of my companies domain? Thanks in advance.

Should i put a full article on my home page to get google to visit more
Hi, our site is www.in2town.co.uk and i am thinking of putting an article on my home page in the middle under where it says lifestyle news, and getting rid of the middle column and instead have the latest news there to try and get google to visit more. I would like to know if you think this would look messy and not user friendly and if you think if i did do it would it get google to visit the site more often. all day we are always adding articles but on the home page it only shows a few lines of the article so i am concerned that these few lines are not getting google interested in visiting our site more often. we were on page one with our site but now since the upgrade we are on page eight so we are trying to combat this The article would change each time we put a new article on the site. so the article could be on there for ten mins before a new one is there any thoughts on this would be great

Marketing URL
Hi, I need a bit of advice on marketing URL's. The destinations URL is http://www.website.com/by-development.php?area=Isle Of Wight&development=developmentname. If we wanted to use www.website.com/developmentname on literature to send people to the ugly URL above, what would we do? Would we need to rewrite the ugly URL to the neat and then 301 the ugly to the neat? Currently, the team are using a new domain of neatandrelevant.info and 301 redirecting it to ugly URL but there are lots of different developments they want to send people to so a new domain is bought for each development which seems a bit unnecessary. They point to different pages on the ugly URL website. Assuming canonical tag would not be needed then because the ugly URL page would be redirected. Also, as the website has ugly URL's anyway, would it not be best practice to use rewrites anyway so that the URL's read www.mywebsite.com/region/development? Would it confuse things to then have extra short marketing URL's missing out /region? Hope that makes sense....

Competiting In the Small Business SEO Market
I deal with primarily small businesses in the construction and maintenance industries and I'm looking for some advice. Traditionally in these categories you find absolutely awful websites with the below attributes, all ranking 1-5 in the SERPs. Weak/Limited content No blog Awful title tags Minimal backlinks Poor on-site optimization Ect. In most cases I am going to assume that these sites have been indexed for the last ten years, and that is why they are retaining such high rankings. My issue is trying to compete with them! So far I have worked to have my client's website submitted to and accepted by all of their competitor's backlinking site (which didn't take as long as you might think). I've also listed my client in several of the top paying and free directories (dmoz, joe ant, ect.) and still I see limited results. Lastly and most annoyingly my clients website, according to SEOmoz is currently leading the domain authority race in every category. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what is going on.
