For local SEO, creating separate location-specific pages is usually more effective than targeting your homepage alone. Location pages allow you to optimize for specific keywords, provide unique content relevant to each area, and include details like address, contact info, and local testimonials. This helps search engines better understand your relevance for each location, which improves your visibility in local searches. However, if you have just one main location or serve a small region, optimizing the homepage might be sufficient.

@moz12pro When it comes to local SEO, it’s usually more effective to create a separate page for each location rather than focusing solely on the homepage. By doing this, you can customize the content and keywords for each specific area, which helps improve your visibility in local search results. While the homepage can still target broader terms, location-specific pages make it easier for search engines to understand your relevance to those areas and provide a better experience for users searching locally.

@moz12pro For local SEO, creating a separate page for each location is generally better than just targeting the homepage. A dedicated location page allows you to tailor content, keywords, and local information for that specific area, making it more relevant to search engines and users. While your homepage can still target broader keywords, location-specific pages will help improve your visibility in local search results and provide a better user experience.

There are pros and cons to both targeting your homepage for local SEO and creating separate location pages. Here's a quick breakdown:

                          • Targeting your homepage can be simpler, but it might not be as effective for highly specific local searches.

                          • Separate location pages allow for more targeted content and keywords, potentially boosting your local SEO for specific areas.

Often, a lot of SEO businesses just concentrate on building backlinks to just the homepage.

However, you should also build do-follow quality backlinks to many different pages and blog posts on your company website.

I always start with creating a location page for each city your business is located.

If you only have one city location then think about what is the most useful page for visitors to land on when searching for what you do. If it's your homepage, then promote that, but if it is the information you'd put in a location page, then promote that instead.

Honestly I tend to always create a location page no matter what and then push to rank both the homepage and the location page see which one Google likes best.

Should we rename and update a page or create a new page entirely?

Hi Moz Peoples! We have a small site with a simple site navigation, with only a few links on the nav bar. We have been doing some work to create a new page, which will eventually replace one of the links on the nav bar. The question we are having is, is it better to rename the existing page and replace its content and then wait for the great indexer to do its thing, or perm delete the page and replace it with the new page and content? Or is this a case where it really makes no difference as long as the redirects are set up correctly?

Is it better to keep a glossary or terms on one page or break it up into multiple pages?

We have a very large glossary of over 1000 industry terms on our site with links to reference material, embedded video, etc. Is it better for SEO purposes to keep this on one page or should we break it up into multiple pages, a different page for each letter for example? Thanks.

Should I optimize my home-page or a sub-page for my most important keyword

Quick question: When choosing the most important keyword set that I would like to rank for, would I be better off optimizing my homepage, or a sub page for this keyword. My thinking goes as follows: The homepage (IE www.mysite.com) naturally has more backlinks and thus a better Google Page Rank. However, there are certain things I could do to a subpage (IE www.mysite.com/green-widgets-los-angeles ) that I wouldn't want to do to the homepage, which might be more "optimal" overall. Option C, I suppose, would be to optimize both the homepage, and a single sub-page, which is seeming like a pretty good solution, but I have been told that having multiple pages optimized for the same keywords might "confuse" search engines. Would love any insight on this!

Getting the Titles and Headings Right on Product Pages. Userbility vs SEO

Hey Mozzers, I am optimising a chaotic section of the site including many similar products. Writing unique content etc. The titles and urls were all over the place so my first job was to tidy them up so I could make some sense of the situation, especially as sometimes they didn't even match! I should point out were on Magento, so product name = Both the Heading and Title of the page, the meta title can be set separately. When i refer to title I mean both <title>and <h1></strong><br /><br />Before they existed as such<br />URL:  domain.com/200-x-0-5-g-rs-232-balance.html<br />TItle:   PC-1234 200 x 0.5g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br /><br />This format was (Product Code, Capacities, Resolutions, Accuracy, Product Title)<br /><br />The issue was all 60 products in a page followed this format. Navigating through the page was a nightmare and was just a jumble of numbers and highly confusing even to me who learnt what they all mean, especially when you had 8 products from the same range you got presented with<br /><br />APC-1234 200 x 0.5g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1235 500 x 1g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1236 1000 x 2g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1238 5000 x 10g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1239 10000 x 15g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1210 20000 x 25g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance<br />APC-1211 50000 x 50g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance</p> <p>I changed them to something more user friendly.<br /><br />URL: domain.com/200g-precision-balance.html<br />Title: 200g Precision Balance<br /><br />This has seen the following benefits<br />- URL is now clear and means something to the user<br />- Product titles are easy to navigate and the page is more pleasing to the eye<br />- The jumble of numbers in the title are now all labelled and shown below each product listing in bullet point so the user can see the basic spec of a product without having to decipher any titles<br /><br />Upon reflection I has a couple of concerns I was hoping you could discuss, I am wondering if I have made the titles too simple.<br />1) I have no product code in the title<br />We have our own products manufactured and sell existing brands with their own product codes. Some of these can be lengthy. Adding them makes them hard to the eye and the page looked cramped.<br /><br />The codes are listed beneath each product title on category pages and on a list on the actual product page, but no where in the titles. <br /><br />2)None of our products have a brand listed in the title<br />None of the products on the site had brand names in anything but the images when i started and as such it snuck under my radar. Listing all services on one page vs separate pages per service

My company offers several generalized categories with more specific services underneath each category. Currently the way it's structured is if you click "Voice" you get a full description of each voice service we offer. I have a feeling this is shooting us in the foot. Would it be better to have a general overview of the services we offer on the "Voice" page that then links to the specified service? The blurb about the service on the overview page would be unique, not taken from the actual specific service's page.

What are some things to consider or things to evaluate when deciding whether you should focus resources on creating new pages (to cover more related topics) versus improving existing pages (adding more useful information, etc.)?
