Errors for URLS being too long and archive data is duplicate
-
I have hundreds of errors for the same three things.
- The URL is too long. Currently the categories are domain.com/product-category/name main product/accessory product/
-Do I eliminate somehow the product category? Not sure how to fix this.
2) It has all of my category pages listed as archives showing duplicates. I don't know why, as they are not blog posts, they hold products on them. I don't have an archived version of this. How do I fix this?
3. It is saying my page speed is slow. I am very careful to optimize all my photos in PhotoShop. Plus I have a tool on the site to further compress. I just went with another host company that is supposed to be faster. Any ideas/
I would so appreciate your help and guidance.
All my best to everyone, be safe and healthy.

Hi there,
Sam from Moz's Help Team here - apologies in advance for the long response!
1. URLs too long.
URL length and format for SEO is a bit of a balancing act. When considering URLs for SEO you want to make sure that the URL is simple enough to remember and understand for human visitors and that it accurately describes what is on the page.
If your URLs do this job, but are a bit longer than 75 characters, then I wouldn't be too concerned.
You do want to keep you eye out for URLs that are not within this basic structure:
http://www.example.com/category-keyword/subcategory-keyword/primary-keyword.html,
contain long and confusing codes, and are taking a hit in the rankings. As I'm sure you're already aware, changing URLs is quite painful, as you need to make sure the old URLs are redirected and this adds more moving parts to your site that could cause problems down the line. So, if you're happy with the job your URLs are doing currently, but the tool flags these as too long, I would definitely consider holding off on making changes. It may be that you use this information to make amendments to future URLs, or rethink your site structure as part of a bigger project.
In the meantime you can "Ignore" those issue either by page or by Issue Type through the Moz Pro Site Crawl interface so they don't crop up every week. You can read more about this on our Help Hub.
Here are some resources on URL formating and how to best structure them for SEO:
https://moz.com/community/q/what-should-be-the-length-of-page-url-from-seo-perspective
https://moz.com/learn/seo/url
https://moz.com/blog/15-seo-best-practices-for-structuring-urls2. Duplicates
Our tool has a 90% tolerance for duplicate content, which means it will flag any content that has 90% of the same code between pages. This includes all the source code on the page and not just the viewable text, so often it's a matter of finding the best answer for the duplicate pages in question.
For instance, often with ecommerce sites, product pages will come up with duplicate content between two colors of the same item, and in that case it's good to use the canonical tag: https://moz.com/learn/seo/canonicalization. If there are two versions of the page that exist - for instance, example.com/subfolder and www.example.com/subfolder - you can put in 301 redirects to the correct page: https://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection. If it's just two pages on different subjects but with thin content, filling out that content with an extra paragraph or two can help.

Unsolved Matomo Data Integration
As GA4 is not easily usable for all clients in the EU, it would be great if you could offer a Matomo integration. Matomo has recently been more and more popular and is used by a lot of companies, that are required to adhere to EU standards in data privacy.

How long to see Keyword Opportunities results?
Hello! I am VERY new to using Moz Pro (and SEO in general) and my initial use is to find find keyword opportunities within a specific industry by comparing my clients' site to their top 3 competitors' sites. I have an initial list of keywords from my clients site (I've been tracking it for a week) but have not gotten any results from the competitors I'm tracking. How long does it take to see these keyword opportunities? My immediate goal (at this point): Supply my client a keyword audit of 30 keywords within their industry. Any suggestions on how to do this? Maybe I'm not going about it the right way? Or, do I just have to wait until the other sites I'm tracking populate data? Thank you for your help/advice! -SEO Newbie

What is the best way to display historical ranking data?
I have utilized MOZ for years but have always struggled with a nice graph that illustrates historical ranking data for all tracked keywords. Can someone help me find the best solution for this in MOZ?

Is there an API to download keyword data?
Howdy fellow Mozzers, We're tracking a client's keyword rankings in one of our campaigns and want to export that data on a regular basis to display in Tableau. Tableau let's us quickly match up different data sources and create visuals with the data. It's useful for marrying different data sources that don't normally talk to each other. We know we can pull keyword tracking data manually, but we're hoping there's an API or scheduler that we can use to download the data automatically. Automating the process would be super helpful. Thank you!

Why no long tail-related features?
I recently joined a community related to Internet Marketing and I am finding it very useful. One of the topics that comes up a great deal is what tools folks use to investigate content gaps. I've been a Moz subscriber for quite some time and understand that, compared to many of its competitors, it's a high end solution. So, feel pretty well positioned there. However, one thing that appears to be lacking is what might be called a long tail discovery tool. I am well aware of Google's Keyword Planner and other free stuff (the problem there being... so are my competitors :)). But there are a number of tools out there - SEMRush, Long Tail Premium, Authority Metrics and so on - that focus very directly on that, with "scores" for keyword competitiveness that at least help narrow down to a possible set, using filtering. While I accept that one might argue the merits - or otherwise - of each of these specific tools, it causes me to wonder why Moz doesn't have such a capability. I see some very successful web site owners describing their processes in the aforementioned community and long tail analysis is a key part of that. It seems that Moz has a richness of features, including around keyword ranking. But it's not clear to me why it doesn't support long tail keyword discovery "directly" (as a specific feature). I really don't want to pay for another subscription 😞 Thoughts? Thanks. Mark

Crawl diagnostic errors due to query string
I'm seeing a large amount of duplicate page titles, duplicate content, missing meta descriptions, etc. in my Crawl Diagnostics Report due to URLs' query strings. These pages already have canonical tags, but I know canonical tags aren't considered in MOZ's crawl diagnostic reports and therefore won't reduce the number of reported errors. Is there any way to configure MOZ to not consider query string variants as unique URLs? It's difficult to find a legitimate error among hundreds of these non-errors.

Competitor changed URL. What data do I lose if I update Moz settings?
One of my competitor's has changed their domain URL. I want to update this in the Moz campaign settings but I get a warning that all historical data will be lost if I do. Is that really true? I replaced one of my competitors with another for a week and didn't seem to lose historical data. Incidentally, could this be a feature request to allow more competitors to be tracked? eqEhEHz.jpg
