Calvin,
Let me go back to a previous answer:
Better to stop now with that and take a month to study up on link building before you do more damage. There's plenty of good info right here on Moz for a start.

Hi Chris,
Please answer my 2 questions
1.does no follow link Contribute to DA or PA(Directly or Indirectly)? if yes how?
2. lets say if someone clicks on my no follow ext link and that person lands on my site, is it gonna increase my DA or PA as it is providing a referal? and for( how long should a person should stay on my site to have maximum benefit)?

A site that sends traffic to your site via a link counts as a referral. A site that has your website address shown on it but that address is not clickable (maybe as an image or it's just not hyperlinked) might technically be a referral but since analytics identifies clicks on a hyperlink as a referral, that's usually what it means--and that's regardless of "DA".
Only the clickable part is actually called the "link". The surrounding text can provide context for that link, in regards to how google determines the link's value to the page being linked to. Words included in the clickable part of the link are considered to add much more important context than those surrounding it so google weighs those more heavily than surrounding words.
"Domain authority" is moz's approximation of google's pagerank scheme. DA approximates the overall value of all the pages on the domain and "page authority" approximates the value of individual pages. It is very possible to have pages that have zero PA on a high DA site and that links on that zero PA page approximately worthless so don't pay attention to DA only.

hi chris,
i have this confusion, Let us suppose I have this website and somebody in Canada just wrote 150 words follow link , an external link, to my site
my question is , is that gonna be a referral link or a back link if that website has DA of 70? higher the better
second question: How does that particular post contributes to a referral or a back link I mean does somebody click on it , does somebody reads it ,does somebody shares it, what happens ?
-
You would be best to rethink your back link strategy. For the most part, if YOU can create them, or you can have someone else create them for you, they're either worth nothing or you'll take a hit for them from google--regardless of the ration of links to referring domains. Better to stop now with that and take a month to study up on link building before you do more damage. There's plenty of good info right here on Moz for a start.

right now as i am writing , i am creating follow backlinks on different sites , but when i check my websites backlinks list only few show up, for ex: on ahrefs site, refering domains are 13 and backlinks are 40. my question is what should i do to keep both number of refering domain and backlinks just around the same ?

Calvin,
Think about the difference between 500 different companies giving your company a recommendation and 500 employees of a single company giving your company a recommendation. If you were a non partial 3rd party deciding which might be more influential to a potential customer, which would you say might be?
Google's algorithm attempts to replicate that decision.
While 500 employees of one company might be influenced by a single person (such as a CEO), it would be much more difficult and a much broader show of support if 500 people from a wide range of influences to make a common recommendation.
It's a logical choice. Don't shy away from logic when it comes to google.

Backlinks and SPAM
I was doing some back link review of competitors and I have noticed that many of our competition have 300+ do follow back links from Justia.com and an additional 300+ do follow links from law.cornell.edu (they share the same database). The links on Justia are from different pages and they are all going to the root of our competitors site. So the questions are as follows; 1: For the purpose of SEO is this considered SPAM 2: If not SPAM, then does it have a positive effect on the competitions website and should I attempt to emulate for my client. Thanks in advance. -Jeff

Dodgy backlinks
I've got a new client who made the mistake of spending $5 on a sack load of dodgy links some time ago. I'm redoing his site, not set up analtics or WMT or anything yet, just starting on it but I had a look at his backlink profile and it's pretty shocking. Riddled with porn and money scams etc, but I'm concerned by the nature of one of the links....to the url is disturbing and I'm tempted to report them to the police. :(. If I use the disavow tool will it remove the links from my backlink profile altogether or just block the dodgy site? I want to disaccociate the site altogether.

Backlinks, how do you get them?
Recently, I listed our site on a few directory's which I deemed as not spammy and had good domain authority (competitors were using these). This was about 2 weeks ago and have not seen them come up as a backlink using open site explorer? I was wondering whether i'm missing something out here or does it take longer than 2 weeks to gain a backlink from a website? Thanks in advance.

Backlink Lists
I am trying to create a valid list of backlink domain to disavow after a 50% traffic cut by Penguin......problem is I have now pulled lists from 4 tool and the lists are all different. I find a toxic domain from the tool run on LinkResearchTools and look on Google and Site Explorer and the toxic link does not even show. I look at the page and sure enough the link from year ago on a link farm is there. Is there really a rue definitive tool that will give me a list of all links? Better yet is there a tool that will help me evaluate which domain to disavow ? I want to follow Dr. Pete's advice and go slow but I am also anxious to cut ties with SEO work done by someone else in the hay day of link farm SEO and frankly looking at resent links some Bad SEO by competitors.

9306 inbound links but onle 143 root domains?
I need help with my link building efforts so I have started to search around for companies and/or freelance contractors to hire. I always ask for examples of sites they are working on. In many cases the number of inbound links are high (9306) compared to the number of root domains that are linked to (143). Or as in this sample (120792) inbound links compared to (157) linking domains http://www.shortsalesafe.com. How can this be? To me the only logical answer is "link farms" or some other form of black hat magic. Am I right in my assumption, or is there another logical answer for so many links with so few linking domains.? Thanks Gary

Website is Dropping in PR
Hey there. I'm new here at our company, and I'm working on SEO for a website we are working on (www.greenthumbdepot.com). We are doing some link-building (forums, articles, blogs, directory submissions, etc) and are currently trying to find some good quality links, as well. After 3 months, the site was on page 15 for the search term "hydroponics nutrients" on Google, and on the first pages of organic search for Bing and Yahoo!. However, looking again, our website has disappeared from the first 50 pages of Google (according to SEOMOZ). From what I can see, the incoming links are not spammy, and the articles we have been submitting have been driving a small amount of traffic to the site. Are we doing something incredibly wrong here? We've changed the meta tags a couple of nights ago. I'm a noob here, so please go easy on me! I'm learning... so thanks for any advice you can give. -jen
