Leap of Faith - Damm the consequences - Title Tag Change
-
the crazy things we do mid week. But after reading Cyrus' post on beating Panda I went back to my website design site http://www.grangewebdesign.com which I had set up a plugin which had all my posts setup as
Website Design - %%title%%
So basically every Title tag had Website Design in front of it. REadingthis post now it suggests that this is bad practice so I just changed it to
%%title%%
which now of course means that I should perhaps look more closely at the titees I have been using.
Was embedding the Website Design in front of the post overkill?
thoughts appreciated...

Thanks Joe - not every post is about it so I think I might just revert a little bit to more manually massaging titles and work a bit on my whole structure. I have about 100 posts and they all append this tag which probably a bit too much.

I think varying the title tag was a good practice long before Panda.
Is "website design" the broader subject of every post?
The way I read that article, he seemed to be suggesting that numerous articles targeting variants of the keyword phrase would be so semantically similar that it would flag the site as a content farm.
I don't think that's the same thing as a templated title tag for a site optimizing for a keyword phrase.
The only thing about your specific example that might be different is the phrase itself. "Website design" is highly competitive,l and Google is on the record that they would sometimes manually manage the SERPs for ultra-competitive terms.
But, I suspect that there are plenty of sites with a title tag like yours that are ranking fine. Think of how many blogs would be penalized if they were going after that title tag construction!
I don't think it's overkill.

Featured Snippet - URL change?
Hi all - we have a blog post that has ranked as a featured snippet. We are doing some cleanup on our back-end opening up a few other blog post categories which would change the URL address by one word. I'm wondering if anyone knows how this would effect the ranking of the featured snippet if we were to change this address even if we did a redirect?

Updating Content - Make changes to current URL or create a new one?
I'm working with a content team on a job search guide for 2019. We already have a job search guide for 2018. Should we just edit the content of the job search guide for 2018 to make it current for 2019, which means the job search guide for 2018 would not exist anymore or should we keep the 2018 guide and just create a new web page for the 2019 guide that way both exist. We currently rank very well for the 2018 job search guide.

Seasonal homepage titles?
Hiya guys, I'm wondering if it's worth updating my website's homepage title to focus on a seasonal message in the run-up to Christmas, or if I would be better to leave it as standard and focus on a more specific category page with a seasonal title and content? Cheers, JAR

Use Of H1 Tags
I just have a quick question. I have seen a few people mention that the use of more than 1 H1 tag has little bearing on things. I am trying to sort out a site for a friend and it has 2 H1 tags. My issue is that it is ranking for a quite competitive keyword (don't know how as the whole site layout is a total mess) but in my efforts to clean up the site I am wondering if I should actually reduce the No of H1 Tags to 1 or leave 'as is' for fear of breaking something. Thanks Paul

Advice on Title please
<y website="" <a="" href="http://www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk">www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk was number 1 in Google.co.uk for several years for our main search term "nile cruise" until about 4 months ago when we fell to our current position of 4 or 5.</y> I am looking at every aspect of optimising the site and wonder if I am using a good enough title for the home page? At the moment it is titled: Nile Cruise | Nile Cruises | Nile Cruise Bargains I wonder if I should just call it "Nile Cruise"? I alreay have a seperat page entitled "Nile Cruise Bargains" and wonder if having that phrase in the homepage title would have any adverse affects? Earlier this year our site was hacked and we spent 2 weeks with it being unavailable until we had rebuilt and repaired it. After that our position dipped. We have a Blog going back to 2007 and when we repaired the site the Blog was affected in that although we managed to re-install the hundreds of posts they were without all of the SEO tags and categories, etc, etc. I've been slowly adding those but there are still hundreds to do. Could this be affecting our page position? Thanks, Colin

H1 tag in Blank in Wordpress website
Good evening, I have noticed using some h1 checkers, that my primary h1 tag is blank. I manually introduced an h1 with my main keywords, but system recognises as 2 different h1 tags, and therefore it could be harmful for my SEO purposes. I created my wordpress website using Artisteer. Is there any specific way (or plugin) to change this primary h1 tag so it wont appear as blank? My site is www.outletspain.net Thanks in advance Maria Jesus

Should I Have No Index, No Follow On Blog Category & Tag Pages?
At some point in the past I read or was told that No Index, No Follow tags on category and tag pages were a good thing on a standard WordPress blog in order to prevent duplicate content issues. Is this still true or was it ever true?

Are post tags on blogs still useful?
Hello I have a number of sites on Wordpress which all still use the post tag feature. Is this something that I should really be avoiding due to duplicate content issues in the url's of the site, or is it still something that can help SEO wise? I only ask as I did a crawl diagnostics report on SEOmoz and it found that 48 of my title elements were too short due to these tags in the URL's. If you do all suggest I keep using them, should they be 3 odd words which are keywords? Thanks in advance.
