Video's Pros and Cons - YouTube vs My website or both?
-
This isn't really a question per say, but more of a request for advise.
We are in the process of creating videos for our travel website. They are more informational and do not promote any products as such.
I am aware of the options, and I am leaning towards creating a pro account with Vimeo so that the videos are available only on our website. The reason for this is so that we can at least get credit for our work, as when they are on you tube, anybody can syndicate the video without linking to our website.
I am also aware that there are allot of searches happening on YouTube, and it may be worse if we choose not to upload our videos there as we would loose out on a big audience.
it would be GREAT if we had the best of both options. And i had an idea i want to get your opinions on.
Create the video and upload onto our website with "lower competitive" title / meta / body.
Submit the video on YouTube with a "Higher competitive" keyword / title /meta and description.
When someone finds our video, they might search YouTube to avoid linking back and wont find it, (although it is there getting traffic from a similar keyword)
Branding is the number 1 objective for these videos, so you tube + many other video sites would be the way to go. However, i would also like our own "private" video blog on our site so that if web masters like the video, we can give them the option of embedding it on there site (like SEOMOZ do it on there whiteboard Fridays)
Your comments and suggestions will be muchly appreciated.

Thanks, that makes sense YouON. I could create interesting/funny/entertaining videos on YouTube for brand awareness, and more product/tour orientated videos on my site for pre-selling and SEO
Thanks for the advice everyone

I have used video on a few occassions and would suggest Youtube. Its quick and easy to submit, loads quickly, plays well and does not bog down your site. Just my two cents! Good Luck!

I completely agree with YouON.
And I would add that if you know where your audience is (on YouTube), you should be there too. Additionally, YouTube has such a high volume of traffic (especially for searches), that capturing that traffic for some brand awareness (even if the user doesn't end up on your site) can really help your brand.

Hi Andre,
I would personally create a company profile on youtube and I would add my videos there that anyone can access; I would them embed those videos into the website and if you have a facebook page, I would embed the videos there too. If you want to give web masters the option of embedding the videos on their site; they can still do this with youtube. Or are you looking to charge for them to see your private blog of videos? If so, I would charge people a fee to see those videos, once they pay you can give them a custom logging into the blog. Vimeo would be a good tool for the private blog portion.
I hope this helps.

I'm italian so sorry for my bad english... I think that you may produce a few video (viral, funny or really useful) and publish them on YouTube. YouTube is great to share your brand with people. Inside the video and in the description (also in the tilte) you put your website. On your website, instead, you can publish technical/specific/vertical video which may interest only your targeted visitors.
So YouTube for spread the word about your website and your knowledge and your site for deeper content.

I would check out Wistia. As a pro-member there is a SEO discount. You save about 20 bucks a month for SEO videos. You can keep metrics of watched videos, heatmaps, video sitemaps, options to have the video embedded on your site and video sitemaps. Definitely worth the price.

Changing domain name, witch is better - brand name.com vs keyword + brand name.com?
Hi, I just made one decision and now I'm bit worried, if I did right one. I hope that you can give me feedback and advice regarding it. I'm in hookah market, so I do not have any possibilities to buy adds, so SEO is really-really important to us. I know a lot of things what has to be done to perform better, but currently I have just few really important questions. In international market the main keyword is "hookah" and everything related to that. We are small company and our brand is not that well known and do not have high volume traffic on website. Hookah in front of that we tough will give better understanding to audience about what is the page. Which domain name is better for SEO and also branding purposes? Currently we were using the first one without keyword, no we switched to the second one (just about week ago). https://hekkpipe.com https://hookahhekkpipe.com Regarding it, some really important questions: Would the longer version of domain helps us better rank with important keywords to us or not? When we will write good content, which domain is more likely shared? I'm bit afraid that first one and that we made a mistake changing the domain name. When the 1st one, then how big difference does it potentially make? Thank you

Are you ever handicapping yourself in search by using a subfolder over a new domain/website?
Hello Moz Community! We are building a separate hospital related to a single service line that is currently part of our main website. Traditionally all our hospitals are folded into one website with the same brand. Problem: Our organization's leaders want to market the new hospital as "Brand Name X" nationally, and not use our locally strong brand name at all. Therefore is the smarter long-term decision to begin building content on a new website with the new "Brand name X" even though it will take longer and be harder, than building it on our big, established website with a 60+ DA site? What I fear is our current website's DA won't matter much if people nationally are using Brand X, which isn't part of our traditional brand name? And they won't be using the traditional brand name at all. Example Scenario: We create a new hospital just focused on heart-related issues. Do we move the bulk of information for this new hospital from http://www.nebraskamed.com/heart, to a new website that will better rank with the new brand X and for just heart-related keywords? Or is it still better to try and stick with the same domain in a subfolder?

Country sites - TLD's or sub directories?
Dear All, We have several brands which operate a several languages and currently have a set up like this: www.[BRAND].com/ = English global www.[BRAND].com/de = German www.[BRAND].com/fr = French … Each subdirectory is a completely different site so I was wondering would it be better to use TLD’s for each country site in order to hold more equity in the search engine if we used: www.[BRAND].com/ = English global www.[BRAND].de = German www.[BRAND].fr = French Are country top level domains the way to go? If we wanted to change language within a country site should we use the following? www.[BRAND].be = Belgium English www.[BRAND].be/nl-NL/ = Belgium Dutch If you could let me know what to do I would be most grateful. Yahoo Newspaper Consortium... What can my local newspaper offer me that Yahoo Ads won't?
Hi Everyone 🙂 I was recently approached by the Vancouver Sun and the Province (our major newspapers in BC), and they said they had an "exclusive partnership" with Yahoo. I can't seem to find much information on it... what is the "Yahoo Newspaper Consortium" and is there any benefit for me going with what the newspapers offer rather than doing our own thing with Yahoo Ads? Any resources or info is appreciated 🙂

Google +1's and Google+ Local
Hi fellow Mozers, I manage 5 brands at the national level, each with their own Google+ profile and then under each brand, there are several hundred physical locations, each with their own Google+ Local page. My question is, should we be encouraging visitors of each location's Google+ Local profile page to +1 the page? Does it have an influence on local rankings and overall SERP results? Our goal is to ultimately get our local websites to rank better than our less targeted brand sites and have our Google+ Local pages show in search results as much as possible. Our local businesses convert to leads, where our brand sites are one step out from that and are used to feed into a "find a location" result that takes the visitor to the local site.

Long term risks of using .org for commercial websites
Hi everybody, I'm having a 'heated' discussion with a collegae about .org domains. Originally .org domains were created for non-profit organizations and it was fairly difficult to get a .org domain ( like .gov and .edu still are). Nowadays it's easy to register a .org domain and i see plenty of commercial .org emd's ranking well. We are planning on launching a new white label in the Netherlands (.nl) and have several domains in our portfolio that we can us for this. I recommend using an exact match .org domain (.nl and .com are already taken) for the new white label www.exactkeyword.org. **My collegae says don't use www.exactkeyword.org, because we aren't a non-profit organizaton and we can't garantuee we won't lose our rankings over the next 3 to 4 years. He would recommend going with the available www.exact-keyword.info. ** Who right and who's wrong and why? Can i garantuee no risk with .org for a commercial organization?

The #2 video includes "SmartDraw" in the title, includes "SmartDraw" in the description, and includes "smartdraw" in the tags. The author of the #1 video has only posted 2 videos with 4 subscribers vs. 46 videos and 128 subscribers Does anybody have any suggestions on why it's ranked #1 or how I can improve our YouTube search rank for our brand name? =/ Thanks!0 -
Facebook Like my website or fan page??
Should I want people facebook liking my website or my fan page? Is there a way to link the two? Here is my dilemma... People liking my website will obviously have an effect on rankings within bing and google possibly. BUT - People liking my fan page will allow me to engage with them in the future about givaways, sales and so on. I'm stuck, is there a way to link these? Or if not, which do you recommend?
