Migrating Subfolder content to New domain Safely
-
Hello everyone,
I'm currently facing a challenging situation and would greatly appreciate your expertise and guidance.
I own a website, maniflexa.com, primarily focused on the digital agency niche. About 3 months ago, I created a subfolder, maniflexa.com/emploi/, dedicated to job listings which is a completely different niche. The subfolder has around 120 posts and pages.
Unfortunately, since I created the subfolder, the rankings of my main site have been negatively impacted. I was previously ranking #1 for all local digital services keywords, but now, only 2 out of 16 keywords have maintained their positions. Other pages have dropped to positions 30 and beyond.
I'm considering a solution and would like your advice: I'm planning to purchase a new domain and migrate the content from maniflexa.com/emploi/ to newdomain.com. However, I want to ensure a smooth migration without affecting the main domain maniflexa.com rankings and losing backlinks from maniflexa.com/emploi/ pages.
Is moving the subfolder content to a new domain a viable solution? And how can I effectively redirect all pages from the subfolder to the new domain while preserving page ranks and backlinks?
I wish they did, but GSC doesn't offer a solution to migration content from subfolder to a new domain.Help a fellow Mozer. Thanks for giving a hand.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue:
Thorough Content Audit:
Evaluate the content in maniflexa.com/emploi/ and identify the key pages that contribute positively to your rankings.
Keyword Mapping:Map the keywords associated with the main site (maniflexa.com) and the emploi subfolder. Identify any overlapping keywords.
Backlink Analysis:Examine the backlinks to maniflexa.com/emploi/ pages. Identify high-quality backlinks that contribute to your main site's authority.
New Domain Purchase:Purchase the new domain (newdomain.com) and ensure it aligns with the content of maniflexa.com/emploi/.
Create Redirect Strategy:Implement 301 redirects from maniflexa.com/emploi/ to the corresponding pages on newdomain.com. This will preserve SEO value and redirect users seamlessly.
Update Internal Links:Review and update internal links on maniflexa.com pointing to emploi subfolder pages. Redirect them to the newdomain.com pages.
Update Sitemap:Submit an updated sitemap for maniflexa.com to reflect the changes in the emploi subfolder. This helps search engines understand the new structure.
Inform Google Search Console (GSC):Although GSC might not offer a direct solution, inform Google about the domain change through the "Change of Address" tool. This is available in the GSC under the Settings.
Monitor Traffic and Rankings:Keep a close eye on your website's traffic and rankings during and after the migration. Use tools like Google Analytics and other SEO monitoring tools.
Content Enhancement:Consider enhancing the content on maniflexa.com to reinforce its relevance to the digital agency niche. This can aid in the recovery of lost rankings.
Communicate Changes:Inform your audience about the domain change through newsletters, social media, and on-site notifications.
Seek Professional Help if Needed:If you're unsure about any step, consider consulting with SEO professionals or agencies to ensure a smooth transition.

Redirection of 100 domain to Main domain affects SEO?
Hi guys, An email software vendor managed by a different area of my company redirected 100 domains used for unsolicited email campaigns to my main domain. These domains are very likely to get blacklisted at some point. My SEO tool now is showing me all those domains as "linking" to my main site as do-follow links. The vendor states that this will not affect my main domain/website in any way. I'm highly concerned. I would appreciate your professional opinion about this. Thanks!!

Redirecting Homepage to Subdomain Bad or Good Idea??
I have a very old forum that still gets a lot of traffic, but when migrating over to another software that is cloud based we cannot redirect using same domain, SO the only option would to be to change the cname on a subdomain and then REDIRECT all the traffic from the ROOT domain permanently - would this be a bad move as the root domain wouldnt be used anymore as now its just setup to be redirected in order to use the software we need to use? Domain is 17 years old.

Domain dominance
I've just started to work for a company who've purchased masses of domains with every conceivable permutation based on all their products with every extension possible e.g .biz . eu. .net (including .co.uk and .com of course). I have two questions: 1. Is it worth keeping all these (they want to add more) domains or let them expire? 2. All the purchased domains are online - is there any point (they redirect with a 301)?

301 process, migration to new domain
Hi all! We have an old site wordpress based, with great ranking and PR 7, called www.europe-internship.com which is going to be migrated into our new Django site www.eurasmus.com (specifically eurasmus.com/en/europe-internships)
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Eurasmus.com
The new one is a much more advanced version that we will keep developing. We have been migrating the information already but we are planning to apply the 301s in the next weeks to start passing the SEO value to our new site and traffic. We have all the url structures and everything checked and technically we are ready for it.
Therefore, we are almost ready. I have 2 questions: The new site includes more services, like accommodation, information...not only internships. Therefore, should we point the most relevant urls from our previous site to our home to share the value or just to the internships section? I am afraid that if the bounce rate goes higher from the 301 we could loose some value... 2)Should we point all the urls at the same time to the new site? Home, vacancies, blog pages, etc... or start gradually doing it to see how it goes till we make it to all the pages including the home? The old site still makes some money and I am not sure how quick will be to pass the SEO value, so in the way we may loose few thousand euros...We understand that, but we want to check what would be the best in your opinion. Let me know what you think and your opinion! Thank you in advance!0 -
Do links to a domain that re-directs to my domain pass link equity?
Hi guys. We've recently taken control of a third-party site and we're going to set up a domain re-direct so any traffic comes to our site. With any existing links that the third-party site has, will these pass link equity to our main site through the redirect? Thanks, Paul

Subdomain, subfolder or separate domains?
Hi Mozzers, We're in the process of re-developing and redesigning several of our websites, and moving them all onto the same content management system. At the moment, although the websites are all under the same brand and roughly the same designs, because of various reasons they all either live on a separate domain to the main website, or are on a subdomain. Here's a list of what we have (and what we're consolidating): Main site - http://www.frenchentree.com/ Property database - http://france-property.frenchentree.com/ (subdomain) Forum - http://www.france-forum-frenchentree.com/ (separate domain) Classified ads - http://www.france-classified-ads-frenchentree.com/ (separate domain) My question to you lovely people is: should we take this opportunity through the redevelopment of the CMS to put everything into subfolders of the main domain? Keep things as they are? Put each section onto a subdomain? What's best from an SEO perspective? For information - the property database was put onto a subdomain as this is what we were advised to do by the developers of the system. We're starting to question this decision though, as we very rarely see subdomains appear in SERPs for any remotely competitive search terms. Our SEO for the property database is fairly non-existent, and only ever really appears in SERPs for brand related keywords. For further info - the forum and classifieds were under a separate brand name previously, so keeping them on separate domains felt correct at that time. However, with the redevelopment of our sites, it seems to make more sense to either put them on subdomains or subfolders of the main site. Our SEO for the forum is pretty strong, though has dwindled in the last year or so. Any help/advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks Matt

Adding new content wanted to see if we are correct path
Hello SEO’ers. This is my second post here on SEOmoz and I have a question / look it over type of deal. I have been reading through the information I have found here on SEOmoz from the community and it has been very informative and helpful. My question deals with my site http://www.tacticalbootstore.com One of the things we have learned is we needed better content as what we had was too thin. We have completely rewritten all of the manufacturer pages and are uploading them now 10/14 complete. This content I believe is about as unique as it will get. New Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/belleville-boots-m-74.html Old Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/altama-boots-m-86.html From these Manufacturer pages we have also written 3 other pages that are linked to from the manufacturer page Buyers Guide Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/belleville-boots-buying-guide-a-98.html FAQ Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/frequently-asked-questions-about-bellville-boots-a-96.html Sizing Information Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/belleville-boots-sizing-chart-a-97.html I believe this creates a virtual silo? We are in the process of rewriting all of the item product descriptions as well as that content was too thin. New Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/blackhawk-83bt02de-mens-desert-ops-boot-p-3916.html Old Example here: http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/altama-mens-inch-exo-boots-p-4086.html Please take note we have only uploaded the 1 new item description the rest of them still have thin content. We hope to have all of the products written and posted by week’s end. Would you guys mind checking what I have submitted here and tell me if we are on the correct path or not? Do you have any other ideas we could implement? I really appreciate your time in looking at this for me. I hope one day to be able to contribute to the community as well with the knowledge I will learn here. Thank you, Chris
