New Forum: SEO considerations.
-
We're going to add a new forum to our website.
We don't anticipate very large volumes of users.
I read somewhere in The Art of SEO that forums should be 'built in bbPress'. I'm very much a programming novice so I'm still trying to get to grip with the basics of forums.
I'd be grateful to know the main SEO considerations (however basic) that I should tell my web developer who is building the new forum.

I think that is not an question for a q&a Forum. Its basic SeoKnowledge

If your content is public(crawlable). Its important that the dynamic content ist optimized automatically. (Title, Meta Description, Html Markup, and so on)

Not sure on the bbPress recommendation as an SEO factor. If your current site is built in WP it makes sense to use bbPress as forum though. As to SEO considerations for a forum versus a web page I do not believe there is a marked difference. You want to be sure that your Forum Title, etc. relates to the content in the posts. So, if your forum is about chevy corvettes, having posts about cake recipes, etc. is not helpful. My personal opinion is that you want to watch for those who are posting just to drive traffic to their unrelated sites, etc.
Lastly, when you say not a large volume of users, remember there is no reason to have a blog if there are going to be two or three initial posts and then two years from now nothing has changed. I see tons of blogs with one or two aged entries. So, ask yourself what is it going to do for you or your customers and is the development and monitoring commitment worth the result you want to attain.

Old domain to new domain
Hi, A website on server A is no longer required. The owner has redirected some URLS of this website (via plugin) to his new website on server B -but not all URLS. So when I use COMMAND site:website A , I see a mixture of redirected URLS and not redirected URLS.Therefore two websites are still being indexed in some form and causing duplication. However, weirdly when I crawl with Screaming Frog I only see one URL which is 301 redirected to the new website. I would have thought I'd see lots of URLs which hadn't been redirected. How come it is different to using the site:command? Anyway, how do I move to the new website completely without the old one being indexed anymore. I thought I knew this but have read so many blogs I've confused myself! Should I: Redirect all URLS via the HTACESS file on old website on server A? There are lots of pages indexed so a lot of URLs. What if I miss some? or Point the old domain via DNS to server B and do the redirects in website B HTaccess file? This seems more sensible but does this method still retain the website rankings? Thanks for any help

Mobile and hidden content - Any issue for SEO?
In reference to mobile - am I walking a fine SEO line when it comes to hidden content on mobile? On the responsive variations of sites we are working on some content is hidden (that displays on the desktop version of the site) so that pages on mobile can display correctly. Is this negative for SEO? Appreciate any feedback Cheers.

301 redirect to new website
We are migrating to a new website that will be using entirely new URLs under the same domain as the old website. The old website is a custom PHP script and the new website uses Drupal. I know that I should use individual 301 redirects to the corresponding new pages. My question is just how to set up the hundreds of 301 redirects from the old website to the new one? Here is the process I've come up with. Please let me know if there is an easier and better way for this. Before actually changing to the new website: download an advanced report with all pages on this domain from OSE. Find corresponding pages on the new website Make the hundreds of 301 redirect lines in an .htaccess file with the following code: redirect 301 /oldurl.html http://domain.com/the-full-url Thanks in advance for your help!
